SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Feb 8
Good morning,
We're chilly this morning at 33* but not as chilly as some of you, I know. So I won't mention it.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Feb 8
Let's try this again. I started my post and went for coffee and Foxy posted it for me. Silly cat!
Yesterday was pretty quiet here. I got the binding on Norm & Nanette, the label on Fox, and started cutting the light strips for my log cabin. Bill loaded the reindeer quilt, winterized the trailer, and set out a dozen mouse traps in our shop, garage, and trailer. We get mice from Vicki's. Her rats chase them out and they have no where else to go. Poor mice. So they run over here to Bill's House of Death. I think he's making marks on his bedpost!
Today is chiropractor for me, hair appt for Scottie, and a big dog food sale we want to hit. Then I'll be cutting more LC strips and doing at least one load of wash. Also, I hope to get some pictures posted in photos.
TINA - I would definitely like your recipe for masa/tamales. I'm going shopping today or tomorrow for ingredients. So did Frankie cry after the game? We didn't care too much who won, but I was kind of rooting for KC because they are closer to us than FL, because it would be Mahomes first Superbowl win, and because they are my brother's favorite team. Did you watch the halftime show? What the heck were those dancers wearing on their heads?? Looked like jock straps to us!
LORI - I bet your boys love the geese! Can they be off-leash? Once, in a deserted campground in NE Oregon we were walking along with Snickers (our much-missed late sheltie) - who was a good boy off-leash. Not another soul in the whole park. There were geese and Snick barked at them. A ranger appeared out of no where, and almost cited us for "harassing the wildlife" and for having our dog off-leash. We got a good talking-to! Now Scottie would be gone after those birds in a flash and we might not see him until Tuesday!
Ah - supper. What to have? What to have? I'm thinking chicken. Not sure how I'll fix it yet but that's my plan. Maybe a sheet supper where it's all cooked on a baking sheet. Or chicken cacciatore, or ??? I have broccoli, brussels sprouts, carrots for veggies, plus salad fixings. We may end up having a feast!
How about you?

Good morning!
Mary, I thought the game was terrible, KS didn't seem like they wanted to win very much to me.... but I'm hard on people who play sports LOL all that money and my Grandsons play harder! My opinion.
I thought they were either wearing underwear or diapers LOL they looked awful.
Here's my tamale recipe:
6 cups corn masa for tamales (I use Maseca)
6 cups chicken or pork broth ( I use the broth from my pork roast and if I need more to make the 6 cups I use chicken broth)
1 cup crisco shortening (I put it in the hot broth after I measure the broth out to melt it)
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
Garlic powder... like a tablespoon
Red Chile powder.... about 2 tablespoons
1 pork roast- seasoned and cooked and shredded and red Chile sauce added to it after shredding.
1 bag corn husks, washed and soaked about 4 + hours
Recipe instructions:
1) Boil a pork roast in water and seasonings. ( I use salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, a bay leave, garlic, paprika, fajita seasoning... just mix whatever you like flavors of)
2) Soak corn husks in warm water until soft.
3) Measure out the hot broth from your roast and add the crisco, set aside.
4) Shred meat (I take out all fat), add hot red Chile sauce into it after shredding... maybe 2 cups? It should have extra but not soupy.
5) Blend with an electric mixer: masa, salt, baking powder, Garlic powder, Red Chile powder and then slowly pour in the broth with the melted crisco and mix to a consistent mixture, just till mixed well.
6) Dry your corn husks off with paper towels. Spread masa evenly over dried corn husks then spread about a spoonful of marinated meat on top of the masa.
7) Fold the sides of the corn husks to the center over masa so they overlap to make a long package. Then folks the empty pointy part of the husk up so that it covers the seam part of the tamale.
8) You'll need a tamale pot with the vented riser in the bottom or a soup pot with a vented riser tray in the bottom, fill water to just under the vented riser part.
9)Place the tamales in your pot with the folded part down and the top open part up. Cook/ steam with lid on after water starts boiling for 35 to 40 minutes. The tamales are cooked when they separate easily from the corn husk.
Note: I find they separate better after they cool for about 10 minutes.
They freeze really well.
I'll be back, gotta do a grocery order for Dad

Tina, thanks for the recipe. I will have to try this one.
Mary, Foxy is so helpful. Molly is helping me by sitting right in front of the monitor. I'm having to look around her as I type. No we can't let the dogs off leash. Wrigley would want to be friends with every person at the park. He's a Golden and loves everyone. Also, I think Wrigley and Jack would chase the geese and ducks right into the water. And of course there is a lease ordinance in our city. I do drop Jacks leash when we're almost home and tell him to go home. He does, and looks back and waits for me. He's such a sweet boy.
I need to get the sheets off the bed. When I left for a walk, Wrigley was still sleeping in our bed and looked quite comfortable. So while he is on a walk with Bill I strip the bed. I also need to run the vacuum. I got some fabric dyed yesterday for the back of a quilt. So I'll layer that today.
Dinner will be chicken and potatoes on the grill with broccoli.
Have a lovely day.

Good morning!
Thanks Tina for the recipe. Still getting brave enough to try to make tamales. We like ones we got in California that were made with polenta instead of mass.
Mary - always busy at your house! You are not much older than me, but have aged very well!
Working on my lesson for Sunday. It's coming along slowly. My biggest worry is my internet connection. It was really buggy and flakes yesterday. Michael was resetting it several times during church. We will be dumping the current provider for a more more reliable one.
The big desk is being moved today. It involves removing the legs, and all the drawers. This makes it fit through the door and light enough to move, with the aid of a furniture dolly.
I did order a new piece of fabric for the back of my quilt. The quilt top needed about 90 inches plus the extra to load on my LA. So the 108 width will be just right. Also, so very pretty sunflower fabric jumped in the cart as well. No idea what I will do with that yet, but it is 4 yards, so enough to do something with.
I had a area rug under my sewing area, which now doesn't fit, so Michael placed it down in my LA area. The edge acts like a stop for my LA, to keep the LA in it's place. And my feet warm.
Dinner - it's Monday, so that means a new food, and then I have leftovers for the rest of the week! LOL! Probably baked chicken and a salad.
Well, my lovely assistant talents are needed,
Hugs,
Jana

I'm back for a minute LOL I'm waiting while Frankie is cooking hotdogs on the grill for the boys.
Becca, it's not a hard recipe.... kinda have several things going on at the same time type recipe. Frankie soaks and dries the corn husks for me.
Jana, I've never had polenta.
I laid out a steak for us to share for supper and I'll make green beans, there's salad and maybe a baked potato if Frankie wants one, I don't think I will.
Time for lunch.
