SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Sept 1st

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Sep 01, 2020 7:14 am

Good morning!

It's September! How did that happen?? Weren't we all just keeping our eyes peeled for first signs of spring?? I notice a lot of the birds have literally flown the coop.

Yesterday we finished the first plaid quilt and I got the binding on it. Four more quilts to go. The other plaid needs to be done with the Q-bot and in time for my sister to take back to Colorado with them when they leave about Sept 28. And we won't be back from Yellowstone until Sept 18. PLUS - my Sister-in-law wants to do a quilt in that same time frame AND we have my sister's quilt to put together and quilt while they are here. So there's going to be quite a rush on the Nolting in those 10 days!

This morning we have vet appts for our boys for exams and shots. This afternoon Bill is taking the truck for oil change and tire rotation. I have a few things to organize in the trailer but it's all packed except fridge. If I keep going out there, I keep packing more stuff. I got my 120 spring bulbs planted yesterday afternoon. 50 daffodils, 50 tulips, and 20 hyacinths. And the yard would have taken 120 more - but I couldn't! lol!

TINA - hope your puppies get some relief soon with the medication. And glad you cooled off even just a little bit. We'll be back up to about 85 by the weekend. Not sure what it will be in Montana, but in Yellowstone, we'll be in the 60's during the day and the low 30's (and upper 20's!!) at night. Packing our wool undies!

JANA - so glad Daniel is home - at least for now. Hope your fabric comes quickly. Your quilt is going to be so cute! Glad you got your scissors sharpened. What kind do you have? I was thrilled when Bill gave me a Ginghers many years ago. Then about 8 yrs ago a friend gave me a Kai scissors and it's the best ever! I have 4 of them now in different sizes. And they are all still as sharp as Day 1. My Ginger is now my trailer sewing scissors.

LORI - you are knocking those quilts out pretty fast! Especially for using a regular sewing machine.

CAROL - I see you finally got caught in Great Fridge Failure Epidemic of 2020 on the Forum. Judi and I both had to buy fridges and I think someone else did, too. I love the bottom freezer but there is a big difference in ones that are merely a drawer and ones with a door and you pull out the freezer drawers. We don't have a big freezer except the top of our small garage fridge so I wanted another bottom freezer - with a door. But they are very hard to find now. And Bill insisted on a Samsung or another European model that I'd never heard of. So that left us with only one model - a huge one with French doors on fridge and freezer. Love the freezer, hate the fridge. But it is what it is. At least the fur-kids aren't getting bonked on the head every time they hear the fridge open. BTW, I made your pork chop/mandarin rice recipe last night in the crockpot. It's definitely a keeper! I tossed in a small handful of craisins, too, as cranberries go with pork and with oranges. And next time I think I'll try adding a 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes and more onion than I put in to suit our tastes. But it was so easy, took so few ingredients, and was so yummy! Thanks!!

I'm still mulling over our supper for tonite. Maybe homemade pizza - with BBQ sauce and chicken? Or alfredo sauce with chix and bacon? Guess I'll have to wait and be surprised!

Good morning!

Mary - pack your flannel sheets in the RV and a warm jacket! It snowed yesterday in Jackson Hole! That's right there at Yellowstone! It is supposed to warm up again, but like a good scout, Be Prepared. I have several pairs of Ginghers and a couple of backup pairs of Fiskars. A favorite of mine is the Fiskars that are like a garden shear, easy close by squeezing your hand. I used those to cut out all the potholders and insulbrite. My favorite Gingher is the small, 7 inch size, so handy.

Our handyman, Tim, is coming to give us the estimate on putting in the door in our bedroom. It will be a regular door to the outside deck, but used for a emergency escape in case of a fire. If we needed to get out of the bedroom and were trapped, the only way is through basically a second story window, even though my bedroom is on the main floor. The ground slopes to my backyard, making my basement at that end, a walkout, if we knew about the way the builder positioned the house. You will get a good laugh at our handyman 's company's name, Home Improved, by Tim! I laughed as my kids call me a cross between Martha Stewart and Tim, the tool man Taylor. Oh the trouble I can get into. We will add finishing the Batt Cave plumbing of the sink too. It takes a bit of phenagaling to make the piping fit. I never pick something easy, always go for the designer look. See, I told you my nickname- LOL. He is here now.

Dinner is unknown so far

Hugs
Jana,

Maryz - I bet you are right about adding craisins and more onion. Now that I think of it, the original recipe did call for more onion and I found it too much for me. lol Tastes change over time and I probably should think to change it up a bit. DH would like the red pepper flakes, but I don't think I would like them. I would like the craisins, but have frozen cranberries and maybe I will add a handful next time at least to half of it. DH isn't as big of fan of cranberries as I am.

Jana - You do have a lot of home improvement ideas! Love the name of your handy man. Those programs are still on one of the stations and I have been watching them since I missed them the first time they were on TV. Most are still funny!

Tina - Hope you are done with 100's but as Lori said we are to warm up again this weekend. Hopefully, something will soon work for the dogs. They sound miserable.

I am painting some 1"x2" strips. I have purchased a package of hooks and plan to put them on the strips and then hang the strips for my rulers. I have the wooden holders, however the largest rulers cause the rulers on the largest holder to topple. I only plan on hanging the largest rulers.

Dinner will be chicken. Tell you later which!

Good afternoon from warm, sunny, SW. Pa....Yep, I'm back from a fun filled weekend at my sister's camp....We got back late Sunday night and yesterday, I swear I had "jet lag" but then when I talked to her, she said the same thing....Most of our time was spent, playing cards and exploring the new property her relatives just bought....Close to 100 acres, on top of a mountain with 3 or 4 access roads that are hardly wide enough for a car and very bumpy...Oh my did we have fun in JoAnn's Chevy...This couple now live in Barrow, Alaska, she's a visiting nurse and has 2 more years up there and then they'll retire to this property...They did move their very long motor home up the mountain, which was really scary, and will stay in it until they fly back home....Barrow is the most northern part of the USA, they've been there for 3 years and have told us, after a few months, you really have to go somewhere else or the darkness might drive you crazy......But, it really is an interesting and very expensive place...Everything has to be shipped in and just picking up a burger might cost $26.00, groceries are out of sight......

Mary, you certainly have been busy with those quilts...Maybe when your UFO pile is done, I'll box up mine and ship them out to you, lol....In hearing about the snow in Jackson Hole, it's hard to believe, especially when you're sitting in shorts and bare feet...But, then when you sit on Kathy's patio and look up into the snow covered mountain tops in Nevada, you just shake your head, how can that be????
So glad to hear Becca is bouncing back...Will be so good to have her back at the table.....

Jana, I love, love to hear your stories about "redoing or adding on".....Jim used to say I was the female Bob Villa and he'd just shake his head when I'd get started.....But, it's always good to have a vision, at least I think so......

Kevin was just here and cut my grass...So far, I haven't used my new mower, other than to take 1 swath through the yard...Kevin said, if he didn't have the robot doing his, he'd be taking my toy home with him....I have a feeling, 1 of his boys will be "trying it out" the next time my yard needs done.....
I'm on my way to my sister's to unload my car...She has a huge burn hole in 1 of the fields and my car is filled with cardboard and newspapers...Then I'm going to Home Depot to check out the plants on sale and maybe load up the car with mulch....Then, stop at Aldi....We've made up the menu for this weekend and I do need to pick up a few things.....I did have a text from Cari and she and Lena might be coming for a couple of days but probably staying with her Dad. ....Her Dad is a smoker and that bothers her so I did tell her, if she wanted to use the house, it's all her's.....Hate not being here to see them but will be with them at the end of the month for beach week......

As for dinner, Dan and Casey might be up and we'll order pizza......

You all have a great rest of the day.....

Happy eating.....................

Hi everyone!
Supper changed for us last night, I made a pot of beans with ham bone and scraps and cornbread. That's what I'm heating up for everyone for lunch.
It took me about 3 hours online with Easton's class and all his assignments and then we had to upload assignments and then we had to do a video and submit it too. I had him read a book and take a quiz too. He has a test today but I don't have a touch screen so he has to wait till he's home for that. I have him do school then play, then school and play and keep repeating until he's finished. While he's playing I'm setting up his next assignment.
Mary, I like my fridge with the bottom freezer, it has the drawer that pulls out and the shelf that pulls out too. Your yard is gonna be a show stopper this coming Spring! It's gonna smell so wonderful too!
Today is the day to get the apoquel for the dogs. I had to give them an extra half of a benadryl this morning so they would relax, so far that's working to let them sleep. Of course the kids have them all covered up and tucked in so they are getting extra lovin.
Jana, I loved watching Tim the Toolman! I hope your handyman gets you all fixed up.
Carol, I think they are, they look so sad. I want to cry for them. I'm hoping this new medicine does what it says and gives total relief in 48 hours 🤞🤞 I'm gonna try your recipe when I get more pork chops.
Irish, sounds like you had a really nice time! I received your Christmas blocks, so cute!
Well lunch is ready so I better scoot.
I have to see what's in the freezer for supper.
Frankie has a dentist appointment because he broke another tooth Saturday and I'll go pick up the dogs meds and then I have a Walmart order to pick up, maybe we'll just bring supper home.....🤷‍♀️

Good afternoon! Checking in. It has been awhile. I have no excuses other than “so busy!” I’ve made batches of salsa, pickled peppers, chow chow relish and pickles of all kinds. I’ve tried to make it to my sewing room, but it has been infrequently.

Irish—do you remember you sent me Chris’s relish a few years ago? Well, I made 2.5 batches, and it’s a huge success! Absolutely delicious!!! My DDIL got sent home from work with fever and flu symptoms and was so sick. Her husband said she was going to make salsa but she was too sick. So, I went and got all of the tomatoes… 2+ days later, and I had made salsa from a mix and the 2.5 batches of Chris’s salsa. DDIL’s Covid test came back negative after a few days.

DH had his 75th birthday without a party. Since cases of Covid were spiking in our area, we thought it best to cancel. I guess it’s a memorable birthday in that there was no party for the milestone. The next day, he had an attack of some kind. Paramedic DS and RN GF came and thought it was probably gall stone as it got better as quick as it came on. When he called his doc, they scheduled a telemed for yesterday, and DH is going to see a heart specialist whenever they can get an appointment. So, you see it’s never boring around our area.

Becca—glad to hear you are on the mend! You sure frightened all of us!

Tina—Hope your doggies get to feeling better! It’s hard to see them feeling so miserable. My blocks will be in the mail tomorrow! Packed and ready to go, but our PO is only open 2 hours a day
.
Mary—you get so much done!!! I envy your abilities! Speaking of birds flying—I’m making 16 to 24 cups of hummingbird nectar daily. Every time I turn around another feeder has been sucked dry! It is a full time job keeping them clean and filled. Have fun on vacation!

Covid is doing well, although sometimes he doesn’t come home at night and get a meal. Last evening I chased and herded him across the big pasture until he cut off and wouldn’t go through the gate toward home. I gave up. He is staying pretty close to his sister in size, which is pretty amazing for an orphan twin. Covid was at the gate this morning wanting breakfast.

Carol—your recipe sounds really good! I think I may have to try it, too. If I don’t use pork chops, I could use a pork tenderloin, I think.

Dinner tonight will be my favorite leftovers. It will be rice and spicy pork or pond delicacies. I have salad makings and broccoli.

Bon appétit!
