SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Aug 21

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Aug 21, 2020 7:08 am

Good RAINY morning!

A little rain yesterday morning and a lot of rain through the night! Bliss! I'm short on time this morning and hope to get back in a while, but for now - a shortie.

Yesterday was blood draw, flu shot, lots of yard work, some housework, green chili chicken enchiladas for supper. Excellent! DH even remarked on them!

Today - chiropractor, more yard work, quilt and bind a quilt if we get the tension squared away.

Supper - We'll split the leftover enchilada, add salad and refried beans.

Got to run!

I'm back! Scottie and I meet Lori & Duchess from across the road every morning at 7:30 to walk so I had to hustle this morning. And chiropractor is at 9:30 so once again, I'm hustling. But at least I'm here!

JANA - glad Sarah got her fruit. Canning supplies are in short supply here. No lids, no more pectin, no jars, and what sugar there is is limited. Bummer about the internet. They must have new people working on this job? Or the locate person didn't locate correctly? So many outages for one project.

CAROL - I think by the end of the summer most of supper club will be pretty skinny! Sometimes it's kind of lonesome here at the table! I know you asked Jana, but I'm going to tell you what we usually use - Sew Fine on top and usually we wind our own bobbins from the same cone. Sometimes we use pre-wound Bottom Line bobbins. On our machine if the top thread is too much heavier than the bobbin, it can mess up tension. I like the look of King Tut, though, and Bill said maybe we can get a cone of that next order to try.

TINA - Great to see you join us! Hot days call for chef salads, for sure!

Well, I'm off to my next appt. A busy week here. When we get home, I'll be back in my grubbies and back out in the yard.

Good afternoon!

Just got home from our Sam's run and a stop to get canning jars. It is a fun old fashioned farm implement store local here only to Utah. They carry a bit of everything, especially at the original store up in Brigham City. Even surplus army tanks! Sarah got the jars she wanted a a couple extra as well.

Not much here going on. We are smothered in smoke from all the fires west of us. Daniel's fire is staying small in acres burned, but they are having a hard time getting containment lines around it. The area is just at the edge of some beautiful forest with big trees. They are hoping and trying to keep it out of those. The Feather River Canyon is beautiful. Karlie hid a small Paw Patrol toy, a plastic Marshall fire dog in the lunch that Daniel took with him on Monday. That now sits on the dash of the fire truck.

Dinner - well, the surprise soup finally made it out of the freezer for tonight. Last night was fresh corn, right from the fruit stand. Yummy! We got a couple of tomatoes from the garden as well. Sarah and I got one zucchini from our plant. It had grown quite big. So we thought to see and shredd it to freeze. So out came my peeler - nope it didn't even touch the skin! We needed a hatchet to cut it open! So needless to say, it went to the trash. I have never seen a zucchini that tough - ever! Our pest control company found at least 7 more nests and spray them. Potatoes are just about ready to dig.

Mary - busy as ever! We planted a small, what we call carpet rose bush, here in my from yard. It was supposed to be about 2 x 2 in size, full grown.. Well, it grew way beyond that, about 6 x 6 - eating you as you walked up to my house. We tried to keep it trimmed back, but it was a loosing losing battle. Good luck with your new little plant! We took it out and I noticed a small start growing, again. Thought we got the entire root system, nope.

Well, time to head down to the Batt Cave.

Stay Safe!
Hugs,
Jana

Maryz & Jana, Thank you for the answer to my question. I usually have been using King Tut top and bobbin, however recently I used Fantastico. My machine, HandiQuilter Sweet 16, was very happy. I do think my machine likes cones better than spools even with the side spool holder. I will have to try something else in the bobbin.

I have been straightening the sewing room getting ready for a Zoom class tomorrow. It looks better.

I have opened the jars of Freezer Jam because they never set. I think I will cook them and get rid of some of the water and add more pectin. (Definitely an experiment!)
