SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Aug 15th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Aug 15, 2020 7:20 am

Good morning!

We're heating up here this weekend - mid 80's today, 93* tomorrow, and back to mid 80's for Monday. Our lower level (bedroom and family room) are partially subterranean and stay pretty cool, especially if we keep the blinds down, so we can be fairly comfy on really hot days. But we're lucky - this will only be the second time this summer we break 90*. We are having a bit of a haze, though, due to huge fires burning in Siberia, of all places.

Yesterday got busy and out of my control! I cut binding strips for 4 quilts, washed 1 load of clothes, picked over a gallon of blackberries and froze them in 4 packages, went to Costco to pick up my new glasses (and you know how Costco goes!). We ended up with a carload of groceries from there, Freddies, and a stop at the drug store. Wiped everything down, put it all away, made another batch of strawberry habanero jam (and it definitely was hot enough this time!), and then tried a new recipe for chicken fajitas. Bill said it was a keeper. It had about 7 different spices in it, so I'm going to make up a spice mix to use so I will only have to get out one jar after this. After supper I made up a menu list for our Yellowstone trip, started a shopping trip for same, and then worked on my embroidered state birds the rest of the evening. Only 6 or 7 left to go! I also weakened and put in an order with my Stitchery magazine for 4 cross-stitch kits - retro trailers in the four seasons. Only 6"x8" each so I may actually finish them before I die. Hopefully we'll find room for them in the trailer. May have to alternate them.

Today - cut binding strips for 2 more quilts, clear out my sewing room AGAIN, take stock of things in trailer so I know what I need for Yellowstone with my sis and DBIL, check for more berries, maybe start quilting my Spring Swap quilt. I'm sure other things will creep in there, too. They always do!

ROSEBUD - IF you can sew after a day of work, you are a far better woman than I! My job was always an energy-sucker-upper!

BECCA - sorry about adding a car appt to your list. I hate car stuff and am thankful Bill takes care of it all. What kind of car do you drive? I hear Mark & Denise will be coming to visit again! Yay! I'm sure they will be stocking up your freezer with goodies!

JANA - poor Sarah! How is she doing today? Congrats to Ethan! He will love that quilt forever!!

We are having pasta with marinara sauce tonite for supper. This is a new pasta (to us) made from quinoa. Also, a few weeks ago I got new pasta bowls so we'll be using them for the first time tonite. They will jazz up the table! The table being out on our deck. We eat out there most every evening in the summertime.

What's on your menu for tonite?

Good morning!

Sarah is doing much better this morning. Now on the the next step of the implant, just one tooth and hopefully it won't be too long.

I got all the masks finished and trimmed Ethan's quilt to see how bad our boo boo was. Not bad, just a 2x3 inch space in one corner. I can add that easily and no one will even know we miss measured the back of the quilt. I will add the binding today. It will be a sit in front of a A/C event project to sew it down. We are in the triple digit range for most of the week.

I ordered a bunch of thread from Superior Threads yesterday. Michael told me to get what I needed, so I did what I was told! LOL! He hasn't seen the charge yet. :) For Christmas last, I got a fancy thread tensioner for my LA. It adjusts automatically to what weight of thread I am using. Time for Michael to change out the original and put in my new fancy one. Time to finish up my UFO stash.

Dinner - this will be our anniversary dinner - prime rib, Yorkshire pudding, asparagus, and rice and gravy. This will be quite a few dinners in the next few days as well.

Mary - we will be hot - over 100 most of the week. So glad to have the cool Batt Cave, it is always 72. Having your lower area on your 2 hot days is great. Yellowstone will be dry, we haven't got much rain this year. You might possibly be restricted in campfires. Haven't heard about that yet.

Becca - fun - Denise is coming! My Highlander needs to go to the shop as well. We need new tires. My current set are the original from when we bought the Highlander , 5 years ago, but they should have lasted longer than 25,000 miles. We have only driven the Highlander that many miles.

Time to scoot,
Hugs,
Jana

This morning I went to the farmer's market and got fresh corn. Dinner tonight will be banned and fresh corn. I am looking forward to it.

It is very warm here today. It is August and that is to be expected and we are not as warm as Jana. I have been worried about Teresa K. Lancaster's temperature prediction is 108* today. The Lake Fire is fairly close. I am thinking she may be getting smoke at the very least.

The electric company is stringing new lines and replacing telephone poles in the neighborhood. Yesterday was our turn and they turned off the power for three hours. They had to come back this morning to finish up for a couple of hours, but I think they are about done with our street. Yeah! They are very noisy.

Unfortunately, we were told yesterday there is a leak in the main gas line so in a couple of months they will be digging up to replace it. The gas line runs under a couple of huge trees at the front of our property so they will relocate it so it is under the street. This is affecting about eight houses on our street. It sounds like a lot of digging will be happening soon and lots of noise.
