SUPPER CLUB - Wed, July 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Jul 22, 2020 6:05 am

Good morning,

60* here this morning and dark. It used to be completely light by this time a month ago. Hate seeing the days growing shorter.

Yesterday, I didn't really know what I was going to do. But like it always does, the day filled up quickly! Walk, Costco, wiping grocery items, cutting up watermelon and veggies, moping floor. Washing bedding and remaking bed. Then the afternoon was spent sorting pictures. We had them printed at Costco (1,300) and it took me all afternoon to sort and file them into photo boxes. Of course, someone who shall remain nameless but who lives in this house and isn't the cat or the dog or me, came along when I took a break, and tidied up all my messy stacks - into one pile! I had to start all over again. Sigh. I completely filled one photo box and all my quilt pix were in another 4" pile. I really need to print my pictures more often. . . . or stop taking pictures!

Today, besides hoping to work on my QOV a little more, I think I'll clean the family room. It needs dusting and a good sweep/vac. Maybe our adjacent bedroom, too. And I'm HOPING I can talk Mr. Bill into going to Home Depot for some curved cottage stones to surround our firepit, just to give a nice finished look. We relocated it about 12 feet from where we had it for 30 years. The vegetation was growing up too much it was scorching when we had campfires.

JANA - yay on the chicken! And on the picnic! Sounds like it was fun. I have a cookbook my sister gave me of recipes from well known restaurants. I should look and see if your chicken is in there.

BECCA - a short thunderstorm every afternoon might be nice - for a while. While at my brother's in North Pole, AK last summer, we spent most days outside on his patio, but had to move the party into the garage for 1/2 hour every afternoon. Then dodge the puddles afterward!

LORI - 110*!?! I think I'd be home in a puddle if it were that hot here! You must be very acclimated to the heat by now. Congratulations on winning the JN pattern! What color scheme do you plan to use? Going to use batiks or regular cotton? Or do you know yet?

I haven't worked out supper plans yet. Maybe stew? I use hamburger in my stews and beer and tomato juice for the liquid. We'll see what idea floats the HOH's boat when he wakes up. (He thinks that means Head of Household, but I told him in the medical field it's HARD OF HEARING). ;)

Good afternoon! I haven’t gotten to my sewing room yet today. It was walking Choc day, a conference call, and I made some dill pickles with cucumbers one of the coffee guys sent home with DH today.

Becca—I envy you your thunderstorms! They have been all around the area, but we don’t get them. I was walking out to the pen this morning and kicking up dust. Rain on our metal roof makes me sleep so soundly, too!

The above was written yesterday. I really had planned to be at the table! Things just got busy and I never got back to my computer.

Mary—I need to put photos on a stick and take them for printing. One day… ha!!! Sounds like you had a busy day. Each morning when I dust the floors, I think to myself that I really need to do deep cleaning, but sewing is more fun.

Lori—I complain about our heat, but yours and Tina’s is over the top, literally, for me! Last night when I walked out to retrieve Covid for the night, there wasn’t a breath of air stirring. We do NOT have a dry heat! I was miserable when our little procession made its way home from the far corner of the pastures. Your shop hop sounds like so much fun! Even in the heat.

Becca—I didn’t have deer in the yard this morning. I had calves. Covid had already left to join the herd, but I looked out the window and Pinkie, Frick and Frack were in the yard eyeing my hostas. Then another bigger calf joined them. They left when DH drove in the yard from coffee. We are crispy and not lush here. I’m sad the days are getting shorter. Our Queen Anne’s lace is past now. Mostly we have the yellow flowers of summer and soon the asters will be coming on. I need to go see if the blackberry lilies are blooming in the woods.

I never made it to sew yesterday. My pickles turned out well but not as crispy as I would like. Dinner tonight will be cheeseburgers and chips. I had thrown some rice, chicken breasts and broccoli in the rice cooker on “Slow Cooker”, but it was ready when we returned from the feed store (Covid and dog food) so we had that for lunch instead. There is lots more, so I won’t be cooking for a few nights. I may have a big salad instead of burger, but no one will go hungry.

Bon appétit!

Chickie, my weather here in Fullerton is about 80 today. It was 110 out at the shop hop in the desert about 100 miles east of us. We get a nice breeze off the ocean every afternoon. It's absolutely wonderful. We pay a lot for property because of our weather.

Becca, I need to get rid of a few pair of shoes too. I go through athletic shoes pretty quick.

Mary, I will use Batiks for the JN. I've been trying out different fabrics on Quiltster. It's fun to pick the colors and see what they will look like. We've been to Home Depot a few times looking for trellis for my little vines with red flowers. I haven't found any yet. I guess people are working in their yards since they can't go anywhere. It was 110 out in the desert, not where I live. We would go from the car to the quilt shop and back to the A/C car again.

I think maybe burgers for dinner tonight. That will be easy

Have a lovely evening.
