Good morning! We are again going for almost 90—welcome to summer! Yesterday the humidity was in the 70s. I finished my drunkard’s path blocks for the UGRR swap, and now I need to label, pack and mail them.
Our granddaughter came over last evening and cut my hair. She just finished cosmetology school, passed her written state board exam, and then Covid hit. She can’t take her practicum until things open up again. I’m in love with my super short, wash and wear summer cut! It’s exactly what I had in mind.
More from the farm… This morning after “breakfast” I let Covid out, and the cows and calves were on the other side of the cattle guard. I wasn’t sure what would happen, knowing Covid had gone across the cattle guard several times before. Something I didn’t’ expect—Covid had his “friends” from the other side of the fence come across the cattle guard for a play date. They were romping and getting acquainted when I came back inside. I think now Covid has gone across with them to play with the rest of the young calves. He may or may not return for lunch, but he has been good about it when he goes to the other side. He always shows up for supper! Hope I don’t have to go hunt for him; he is a little young to be off on his own yet. Thanks for not minding my rambling on about my babies!
I heard from MaryZ this morning. She doesn’t have internet, and may not for a week. She said to tell everyone she misses us!
Irish—I’d never heard of pear pie until DH and I were married. There was a big old-fashioned pear tree in the yard with the hardest, crunchiest pears I’d ever eaten. They made great pies! We lost the tree in the fire, but DH found some at a friend’s family homestead and has since grafted some. I make it like apple pie since I didn’t know any other way. It’s been successful! I want to come have your friend adopt me, as I’d be her recipe guinea pig any time! Enjoy!!!
Becca—you are really working over your yard! Don’t get overheated and sick! We need you, and so does CA! Love hearing about your family. I want to “try” more breads via our table.
Jana—I have always been a city girl too. I guess that’s why I enjoy the farm so much. Loved coming back from SF to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s even if they were in the city limits. Grandma had lots of chickens, and Grandpa had the occasional feeder calf although they weren’t friendly like my babies.
I’m not sure what will be on the table tonight. It will be leftovers—probably the roasted veggies with the chicken and beef chunks. I have some rice as well.
Hopefully I can now get this posted before DH returns from coffee and I get interrupted.
Bon appétit!

Hey Chickie, sounds like you are keeping yourself busy. Love your stories. Keep them coming.
Becca, I've never been able to make a good pork chop. Mine are always tough, so I just don't make them.
I think for dinner I'll make chicken tacos.
Have a lovely evening.
