SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, June 7

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Jun 06, 2020 6:23 am

Good morning,

I'm having a hard time keeping track of the days. I wasn't doing so good at it when we were still at home, but sitting here in our campsite, it's even harder! Guess all we need to remember is leave Monday morning. Someone remind me!

We had a bear in camp yesterday, up in a tree about 150 feet from our trailer. People were standing watching him, not knowing that 15 feet away was a deer watching THEM! lol! We also saw a doe and newborn fawn yesterday.

We went into town yesterday. Most of the shops were closed - tough for a town that relies completely on tourism. A few restaurants offered take out. The quilt shop is gone now but we found another one a mile down the road! And yes, I spent a happy half hour in there and came out with a full bag of goodies!

BECCA - glad you liked your new PA. Bill sees one as his regular doc and he's as good as any doctor I've been to. I believe it's really important to have a doc/PA/NP that you really like and trust.

IRISH - sorry Ruby is suffering from the birdies! That's just so rude. I use hamburger in my stews - cooking it first before putting it with the veggies into a crockpot. The Grand Canyon is so amazing. And the funny part is, everyone whispers at all the overlooks. It's like a sacred place.

JANA - congrats to your menfolk for figuring out a way to do your church bulletin electronically! It's all just magic to me! lol! And I'm with you - definitely not ready to put myself in a crowd yet! I was even hesitant to gather with 2 other couples for 90 minutes last night for happy hour, but Susie, bless her heart, had a tape measure and made sure there was 6' between each couple. Keeping Michael in my thoughts

CAROL - I LOVED doing my Dear Jane. It took me 4 years as it was my winter travel sewing project when we went to Texas for two months a year, but I finally caved and finished it in a marathon of sewing at home the last year. By the time it was done I was calling it Crazy Jane. But I do love that quilt - now.

TINA - You are too hot for me! My phone weather app says you will be "cooling off" to 99* today - with wind. Guess maybe I'm grateful for our evening showers last night after all! Glad Winnie is going to be OK. But I sure don't envy you having to give a cat medicine every 12 hours! Like Irish said a few weeks back- 3 people to hold the cat down, one to run for bandages, and one to drive you to the hospital! lol!

We never got around to supper last night so I think we'll have our little pizza on the grill tonite instead. I have turkey pepperoni and black olives - my favorite!

What's your supper plan looking like?

Good morning!
Mary, I had the the visual of the bear and deer and fawn ❤
Sounds like you had fun in the quilt shop, so happy 🤩
I'm not ready to go out and about yet either. We only have 10 cases here but still....I don't want to be the next one.
We were treated to a cloud burst last night about 10! It cooled it off a few degrees but then it was humid LOL we just had another one! Humidity is at 50%but will go down to 13% in a couple of hours.... I'm ok with that! At least it cooled us down 10° for today so we shouldn't hit the 100° mark.
I'm baking blueberry muffins, the kids requested them last night for breakfast, so figured I'd jump on here while they're baking.
LOL sorry I missed Irish's story about giving kitties medicine, sounds about right to me. I so dread it and I know Winnie senses that dread, poor baby. But so far she hasn't scratched or bitten, I'm hoping it stays that way.
I'm not sure about supper yet, Dad will be here so I do need to cook.
There's the beeper, muffins are done.

Good morning! I have a few minutes before DH returns for brunch. He had a couple of places to go before coming home. I have biscuits ready to pop in the oven and sausage gravy made and on “hold”.

Tina—I feel for you with your temps! We are in the 90s with humidity, and it’s oppressive here. Glad to hear you got a little relief! I gave my Brutus cat a pill every day for 10 years. He was such a sweetie and took it well. This is the cat that put the fear of god into the neighborhood bully dogs! If I had to give Carmica meds, it would have been a whole different story—she was a tiny little wildcat and could inflict a lot of wounds with her two back feet.

Mary—enjoy your camping and the nice weather! Love the wildlife sightings, although I hope the bear stays outside your perimeter! It’s so cool to see the does with their fawns. Oh, a quilt shop trip! Fun!!! And goodies!!! Ours opened this week, but I didn’t make the trip down since I’d been there a week or so ago for an “appointment only” session.

Irish—It killed me to have to leave my truck outside and get it all dirty on the farm. It was a “city” truck—garaged nightly, washed weekly and waxed monthly. Now it’s a derelict.

Becca—Our doc is only doing telemed until at least 4th of July. We may be hunting a new PCP before long. I think a lot of the PAs care more than the docs and are more thorough—glad you like yours! I hate our humidity!

Covid the yard calf is thriving! He is such a hoot. I’m now trying to break him from the bottle to a bucket. The bottle was MUCH less messy for me! He insists that I keep my fingers in the bucket so he can suck on them. The process is very noisy—lots of slurping and sloshing. If he realizes the fingers of nectar are gone, up comes his head and he slings milk replacer all over me. He stays in the yard or extended yard during the day. He comes to the house and bellows for his lunch, then returns at dusk for dinner and into his pen for the night. So far he has not found my hostas to sample.

Covid had a little “sister” for awhile, but I was unable to save her. I worked and work and sure gave her my best shot with DH helping, but she didn’t make it. I was really sad. Covid was a good “big brother” and seemed to watch over her. She was less than half his weight. My calf-saving record is now blemished—7 saves and one loss. I guess it’s a farm thing, and I shouldn’t get as attached as I do.

We have a great grandson that may be arriving Monday if they go ahead and induce labor. Mom has gestational diabetes, so they are keeping tabs on her.

I’m working on my second set of UGRR blocks for MaryQ’s swap, and I hope to complete them this week if all goes well. Seems like something comes up every day and I get sidetracked out of my sewing room. Two days I picked cherries and made three batches of cherry jam, a pie, and froze fillings for 4 pies. There was also a day I went to the store and trips to town to the feed store. Life is never slow here, it seems.

Dinner tonight will be leftover pizza for DH, and I’ll have a salad. It’s too hot to cook. We are already 90 with a heat index of 100, so you know the humidity is intense. Also, there is no breeze.

Guess you figured out DH returned somewhere in the middle of the above. We had brunch, and he is now out to meet DS3 and DGS to install an AC unit at the little rental house. Thankfully, the guys volunteered to help so I wasn’t recruited. Sorry I don’t seem to find my way here very often. It’s crazy how the days fly by—is that an age thing???

Bon appétit!

Jana--I missed saying hi to you. Hope you get good news for Michael. I know waiting for tests to come back is so difficult. You are always so busy with your family--always enjoy hearing about them! I can't believe how the "little ones" have grown so quickly! Sure you and their mom's feel the same way, too!
