SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, May 16

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat May 16, 2020 6:51 am

Good morning,

Going to be a Showery day here, we're told. So inside activities will rule the day. I finished washing all the inside upstairs windows yesterday and polished the granite countertops. And Bill offered to help with the big kitchen garden window - which led to him doing some of the outsides! Yay, Bill! And I finally got the last yo yo nailed down on my quilt, so it's ready for quilting! Whoo Hoo! Only took me 11-1/2 months. Though it's not quilted yet. Still contemplating how to do that and accepting suggestions or ideas . . . .

Last night Bill was texting with a two of his friends from his excercise class at the 'Y and invited them and their husbands over - tomorrow. It's going to be rainy so that means gathering in the garage. So today we need to clean the garage again (we don't usually keep it company ready), and figure out some appetizers, plus safe seating arrangement for 6. Time to get creative or brave a store run. I've met these friends three times over the last five years, but not their spouses. So if anyone has any easy appetizer recipes that can be whipped up out of a tsp of garlic and 1/2 cup of air, please send them my way - quickly! My pantry is dwindling. I have lots of tomato soup, rice, beans, and catfood but not much else.

BECCA - I saw the national weather had storms headed across the eastern part of the nation. I always check their map and think about you on the east coast. Your storms are much more impressive than ours. I used to make fried bologna quite a bit when the kids were little. Nobody will eat it now. You've had some busy, busy days lately. Hope today is more restful for you.

LORI - I'm glad you made the market and found what you were looking for. Fresh is always best plus I love supporting smaller, local folks. You've made me hungry now for something - anything! - fresh! Happy to share the Frosty Paws recipe.

1 large container of plain yogurt (~32 oz)
1 banana, mashed
2 Tbsp peanut butter
2 Tbsp honey

Mix well, pour into small containers, and freeze.

That's the original recipe I was given. I usually don't measure, but just add "glops". and an extra banana. This is what I do with my overripe bananas. Scottie loves these but eats them in one gulp so I put them in a tiny hamster-sized pellet dish which is only slightly larger than the 'ice cream'. Scottie has had a few guests who didn't like them, but he LOVES them. I'll be interested in what your boys think.

Tonite's supper is going to be split pea soup. We're having a few rainy days here so it will go down well. I always add diced carrots, celery, onion, potato, and a bay leaf or two. So it grows . . You can expect to see it on our menu for at least two nights. :D

What's happening in your kitchen tonite?

Mary, thanks for the recipe. The boys will be happy I'm sure. They lick my yogurt container clean when I finish, so I'm sure they will like these. They also like peanut butter and bananas. Glad you are getting some visitors. I'm sure you'll come up with some kind of snacks to feed them.

Becca, I would grow a garden, but I'm the only one who likes the fresh veggies and fruits. I have lots of herbs in my yard year round. I've had tomato plants a few times, but once they get going I can't eat them all.

I went over to Shane and Danelle's yesterday afternoon. We had wine spritzers. I've never had one before.
It was quite refreshing. I finally got the borders sewn on the plaid swap quilt. So I'll see if I can find a backing. Maybe just plain muslin. I want to get it quilted so I can give it to my FIL when he arrives.

For dinner I think I might make chicken enchiladas. I miss going out for Mexican food the most. I might even make up some Spanish rice to go with it.

Have a lovely day.

Good afternoon!

I been out helping - sidewalk supervisor on the planting of the middle forty. We have planted, tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini and green beans. Michael and Sarah are finishing the connections for the irrigation system. Ethan and I are weeding the grass level flower bed where my tulips are. Almost finished across the whole length, about 70 feet. Trying to decide what to plant there when we are done. I have some dutch irises, which I love, and we will order and add more. More tulips and daffodils too. But need something for color in the summer.

Picked up our groceries and have that put away as well. Getting better of things not out of stock. I also re-bagged all the meat we picked up yesterday and re-arranged my two freezers. The freezers are named Fred and Ethel. So when I send someone to go get something, I can tell them which one and what shelf it is on. Nobody better move things after I have it put away! LOL!

Dinner - something simple.

Well, my talents are needed again,

Hugs,
Jana
