SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, April 7th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Apr 07, 2020 5:54 am

Good morning,

We are having a streak of pretty weather here. It brightens spirits. Other brighteners we are seeing are handmade signs saying things like "Smile! This will pass!", and "LOVE! Spread it around." Christmas lights, Easter decorations, and friendly greetings from fellow walkers also make us smile. Everyone is doing their bit to improve life.

I'm still making masks. Now for the sheriff's department. I even found some sheriffy looking fabrics - camo with deer silouettes. Can't have our deputies responding to calls with puppies and daffodils across their faces! They requested interfacing as an additional filtering layer so I rooted around in my sewing closet and found bits and pieces of it - 1-sided fusible. Enough for 28 masks. The sergeant's wife is also making masks so they should have enough. Funny to talk to him on the phone and he was bandying about sewing terms like 'interfacing', and 'stash'. I complimented him! lol!

JANA - we have milkmen here, too, and have considered having milk delivered. But so far we're doing OK. We have powdered milk if we get too desperate. I'm not a big fan of drinking it, but it will work for cooking.

BECCA - glad Taylor is staying home, though with the twins, she probably was pretty much anyway. I hope Levi stays healthy, too! Your yard will be so pretty for Easter. So sorry to hear about another person on a vent. NY is half of our country's statistics!

CHICKIE - I know you've been sewing your stash down, too, for "the cause". We do a lot of walking here. In fact, our governor is urging people to get outside to exercise as long as they maintain the 6 feet. It's good to get out and let the sun shine on us - when we have sun! We take our masks and put them on when other people are about. Your weather is much like Colorado - they have 72* one day and can wake up to a blizzard! Our daily news has a question of the day and yesterday's was "what skill or hobby is #1 now that everyone is staying at home?" Baking was the answer so you are right up there with your wish to bake or make comfort foods. We ate the last of our CC cookies for dessert last night, so I think I'll bake something tomorrow, too.

LORI - I used elastic at first, ran out, ordered 144 yds and made ties until the elastic came. I shared half that elastic with Judi as the Detroit area is desperate for masks and she is a mask-making dynamo. We aren't as bad here. And I NEVER dreamed I'd be making so many masks. Now I'm almost out again. Yesterday QIAD had 1/8" black elastic on sale in 33-yd increments so I ordered more. I have no idea how long it will take to arrive, but it sounded as if they had it in stock. At the end of the day I average about 5 elastic masks/hour but only 3/hour if I make ties.

I was going to make meatball stew yesterday but we have been ordering from a restaurant once a week and Bill said since we had to go out to deliver masks to the police dept that he wanted to get sandwiches from Jersey Mike's. So this eliminated another trip out later in the week. So tonite will be the stew. And probably tomorrow night, too!

Good morning!

We will make the drive up grocery run shortly. We open and close the hatch on the Highlander, remotely and the grocery people only touch the bags they load. Then home , disinfect all items, and us to!

But, the big problem is a power glitch/surge happened twice yesterday and toasted my oven circuits! Urrrggh! Michael is trying to get a picture of the model plate number, to see if he can replace the circuit board. I have no doubt he could, but is the board easily accesible, he is not as agile as he once was. Lucky for us, the computers, my iron, and most of all my sewing machine are on individual surge protectors. Can you say, a whole house surge protector is coming! Those surges really fried that circuit board!

I gave Aaron about 35 masks this morning. He stops by after he is on duty and checks the box on the porch. I will make more today. Stu stopped by for a window visit. He needed masks as well. The Amazon facility is requiring he wears one. So Sarah found some non woven pellon type interfacing in her stash, so we added that extra filter to Stu's. We have very little of it. So Stu sat on the grass at the edge of the window well while we sewed. He is doing fine and making a nice salary. More mask sewing. Yesterday I put a link up on how to fold, without a bias tape maker, the tie strips. No more burnt fingers! Sarah and I remembered this method of using pins on your ironing board and pulling the strip as it is folded under your hot iron. Works so well, and is fast too!

Dinner - well, the stove top, burners work, so we shall see what we cook.

We need to pick up Michael's med refills as well, time to put on dirty clothes and head off into the world, outside my four walls!

Hugs,
Jana

Mary, I saw the 1/8 inch elastic, but I thought that might be uncomfortable. It would cut into your ear. So I didn't get it. I'll wait for my 100 yards of 1/4 inch. I don't have a specific location for my masks. Just giving them out as people ask for them. Might take some to the vets office.

Jana, so funny....put on the dirty clothes to go out. We are in reverse of the normal it seems. I'm the same way. Don't want to wear clean clothes out.

Becca, I got my walk in this morning yesterday we never got a break in the rain. I would walk in the rain, but I don't like wet dogs, so we skipped. Wrigley is a sponge when it comes to water and he is 95 pounds of lovey dog. The other day he went out in the rain, came in and got on my bed. I got him down immediately.

There is a lady on our Next door neighborhood email selling cloth masks for $10.00 a piece. I commented that was a little pricey and you could find the pattern for free on the internet. That just makes me mad. Trying to make money off a bad situation.

Well I need to clean today. I didn't do any yesterday and it's a little furry around here. With 2 dogs and 2 cats it doesn't take long.

We'll be having chicken enchiladas with spanish rice for dinner.

Have a lovely day.
