SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, February 6th
Good morning,
Tons of rain in the forecast - another pineapple express coming in from the Hawaiian Islands for about 3 days. But for some reason, the way it's hitting the Olympic Mtns, we are in the rain shadow and for right now, Gig Harbor, Tacoma and Olympia are getting very little of it! How sweet is that! We have 50% chance of rain later today. And after tomorrow, 5 - count them! FIVE whole days of partial sun! We may get our trailer out after all!!
Yesterday I put my January lotto winnings together. I had to make one more block to get a 3x4 setting. Then I added two borders to bring it up to a size I wanted. I have two more sides to sew on this morning and the top will be done. Then I'm going through all my flannel scraps and piece together a backing. Might cut them to 8-1/2" squares. I'll see what kind and size of scraps the "Flannel Scraps Shelf" holds. Yesterday I also got a late-in-the-day, spur of the moment haircut. The vote was still out last night so I'm waiting to see what I have wrought after my shower this morning.
I have a massage later this morning. I stumbled on the stairs last weekend and really wrenched my back trying to keep my balance. I hope David can fix me up. When I bought this house in 1986 I thought the stairs were kind of cool. Never lived with stairs before. But I was 35 yrs old then. Now, at almost 69, the novelty of a staircase has definitely worn off! I just know I'm going to fall down them one day. Probably pushed by Scottie! We keep saying "our next house is having NO stairs!".
JANA - hope Michael is feeling better today. Doing a budget is probably what made him sick! lol! Are you getting more snow today? There's another line of storms going through here and probably headed your way. Hope you are making progress in your Batt Cave. As for disabling the car, I think that's exactly what Vicki's kids did to hers. Right now it's parked at the back of her property at the edge of the woods. She has all the doors, hood, and back hatch open for the past 2 years to "air it out" with the composting barrel stuffed in the engine compartment. Keep in mind not only have we had record rains this year but record snow - 20" - last year! We peeked into it a few months ago and it's full of moss, mold, and squirrel nests. It used to be a nice Toyota Forerunner. But, at least the kids stopped her driving before she killed someone.
CHICKIE - You have really put in your time with your late DH, your MIL, your mom. If I come to that point, I want YOU to take care of me. You have more experience than most nurses! Sorry you are white and frozen in Kansas. But take some photos and come next summer when you are sweltering, put the pix on your wall and think back to now. It will cool you off! I do feel badly for your new little cow babies! Do they have shelter - if they want it? You have been so busy with your baby sewings! Happy Busy! Are you ready to start on #3?
BECKY - funny how parents won't accept it from their kids, even though they know kids are right. But they WILL accept the same thing from someone else or if they think it's their own idea. IZZY said some months ago that she thinks her mom should quit driving, and reported in Sew-in this morning that mom just had an accident - with an ambulance! So maybe this will be the incident that gets her mom off the road. But sad that it has to take an incident. She didn't say if the ambulance was lit up. OH, and you asked, and no I don't have a brace I wear for sewing, but I've often thought of borrowing DH's. But I do have one called Better Back. We got it on the internet for about $50. I put it on, usually in the evening, only for about 15 minutes to rest my back. It's magical! It feels like it takes all the weight off my poor little vertebrae.
BECCA - well, you are busy enjoying your visit and your veggie soup today! And I love cornbread! What a feast you are having!
TINA - Glad you were able to get into your sewing room and play with your toys! Your little behive scene is so cute!
We have a lot of pork roast left over from last night so it's going to be, either rewarmed with mashed potatoes and gravy or shredded with BBQ sauce on a bun. There's plenty to do both for the next few nights. And probably the last night I'll make posole. (basically a Mexican pork & hominy soup). Or pork hash. I do let DH weigh in - and sometimes I even go with his idea!
What sort of ideas do you have for supper tonite?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, February 6th
Good morning! Here we are again in Fickle February! After the snow yesterday and school closings, the sun is shining and we should reach 42 degrees today! Isn’t that crazy! We had about 3” of the white stuff.
Yesterday when I walked out to see the cows, some were in the barn including #23 and her calf. Blondie and her calf were sheltering out of the wind. Most all of the cows were at the “feed lot” where we have the hay holders and molasses tub a.k.a “the candy jar”. The cows gather around it and lick the wheels for the tasty treats. They look like the group around the office coffee maker catching up on the gossip. The wind was blustery, and I didn’t stay out long. The mud will return today with the thaw.
I’m ready to start on #3 of the baby quilts and accessories, but I don’t know what colors she will be selecting. Guess I have a little time until August 7. Meanwhile, I’m cleaning up my sewing room and playing with scraps. I made a place mat yesterday and some pot holders.
Becky—how much of the storm did you get? I’m ready to let everyone do the driving for me, too!
Mary—I think I have a nursing degree by apprenticeship sometimes. Mayo Clinic taught me how to do subcutaneous shots, and hospice taught me much about wound care, ostomy bags, etc. I haven’t set up any IVs or given shots in veins, but I do take out stitches.
Jana—I’m finished with winter! Don’t send any more snow! Hope your family is feeling better and you don’t come down with anything.
Dinner tonight—ugh! I must cook. I’ll have to go check out the freezer or maybe make some potato soup instead. I’m thinking that would be delicious.
Bon appétit!

Good morning ladies.
We have another snow day today.....UUUGGGHHH! The gravel is very icy, and our driveway is just crap...
Thanks for the info on the brace Mary. I will try to order it soon....
My grandpa was in an accident too, in the alley behind the grocery store. When my dad questioned him about if he just didn't see the lady or what, he said, I seen her, she didn't have no business being in that alley.....and things went down hill from there, so, although shocked, my dad was thankful that I could take him where he needed to go.
I think we got about 4-5 inches Miriam. Not heard the official part yet, but while taking Brytt to work at noon, the roads were so horrible that I just stayed in town until she was done. I am so ready for mud even! Actually, with the dogs, my floors look like mud now! I think I will have to do something with them in the next few days.
I stuck a roast with potatoes and carrots into the crockpot....Will have another pick up from work at 5 today, so will make me late getting home.....Crockpot makes dinner a lot easier!
Have a nice day....Becky

Good morning!
Another snowy morning. Another 7 or 8 inches here at my house. Another bunch of accidents for Aaron. It is his normal day off, but was called in early to help out. He will only have to stay on duty for a part shift and as soon as the morning commute has slid to work, he'll be off.
Not trying to out do anyone with Spring cleaning, but with, I am not going out in that storm day, might as well make hay while the snow falls. I love mixed metaphors! LOL! I hate being bored.
Dinner - it is class tonight. Only a few blocks from the house, and we will find something close to home and bring it back.
Mary - has Bill seen the new Cheerios? They are heart shaped.
Chickie - had a good snicker at the cows. Here our horses hold conference, a church meeting, over the corral fences. We have 4 corrals that touvch each other.
Becky - hope it was a short shift for you to stay in town that long.
Time to supervise - I don't shovel snow, just watch.
Enjoy,
Jana
