SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Feb 5th
Good morning,
We are 41*, going to 52* by afternoon with 40% chance of light rain all day long. Not a bad forecast for February. My sis in CO is -2* while my bro in North Pole, AK is +4*. It's a topsy turvy world!
Not a lot going on around here - Yesterday I made blocks for February lotto and will mail them off soon. I won January's lotto so today I'll put those blocks together. And a few years ago Kathy sent me a Village quilt BOM pattern - each block is a combo of piecing and applique and is a different scene in a village - a house, pet shop, quilt shop, market, etc. I think I will start pulling some fabrics for that and "kit it up". That way I can work on it here or simply grab it and go when we are out in our trailer. I think it will be a fun project to work on and a unique quilt.
TINA - On days that you are doing a lot of standing or even housework, etc., I wonder if you'd benefit from wearing a back brace - one of those black nylon jobbies that workmen and moving men wear. Ahh... Parents. My dad took it very stoically when we had to tell him he could no longer drive. He narrowly missed hitting another vehicle - with children in it! I still shudder when I think how disastrous that could have been. And then he hit is own car - with his pick-up - in his own yard. He wasn't happy with us when we told him it was time to give up driving, but he tossed his keys on the table without a word and never drove again. Of course, it tied me up taking him every where, but that was OK. He only lived 2-1/2 miles away. Vicki's kids simply disabled her car. I don't think they ever told her or tried to take her keys. It just wouldn't run anymore. It's a tough time for every family. Giving up driving is a real game-changer for people and hard to accept. Your BOM sounds like a lot of cheap fun! I've never heard of anything like that here, but then I havent' kept my eye out for it either.
JANA - wow! 500 incidents in the greater SL area? When it snows here, we stay home! Yes, I do love handwork, but not yarn! I CAN crochet - simple stitches, but it's always uneven, knotty, and my hands itch and ache. And forget knitting! I finally gave up on yarn and donated the little bit that I had. But I love almost all other kinds of work if it involves thread. What's the current project happening in your sewing room?
BECCA- My brother, too, quit driving voluntarily. His Parkinson's meds caused hallucinations and he would swerve to hit a deer that wasn't there - things like that. He didn't want to be the one that killed someone else, so he hung up his keys for good. I'm excited for you to have Denise and Mark visit! How long will they be there? What kind of 'entertainment' is on the schedule? And what is the current hand project 'sitting next to your chair'?
LORI - Bill's mom drove for 3 yrs without a license until we caught her. She hadn't been able to pass the vision test at the DMV so they wouldn't renew her license. She had cataracts and after surgery she could see fine. But didn't bother driving again. Bill and his sister (and sometimes me) drove her everywhere after that. And yes, my yo yo quilt takes about 450 yo yo's. I've got 110 sewn on now. Last summer, while traveling in AK and spending a lot of hours with my sibs sitting around a campfire, I made over 600. They can be addicting. It was hard to stop. lol!
Tonite, as promised, I am making a pork roast, baked sweet potatoes, and a salad. My mouth is already watering. We never got around to eating anything but salad last night. Bill was gone until 6pm and then we watched the SOTU speech. So we ate the salads I'd already had made and called it good.
What might you be having?

Good morning!
Mary - it was over 500, in the whole state. Close to 300 on the Wasatch front. More today I am sure, more snow.
Haven't started a new project. Just trying to get some started ones done. Spinning wheels still in the Batt Cave. I did help Michael get the budget done for the month. He wasn't feeling well and was behind. It is done now.
We had problems with DH's grandparents driving. Couldn't get the keys, so we took the coil from the distributor, that took care until we got them moved and then Michael's parents took over. My mom didn't give me a problem. She realized she couldn't see anymore and gave her car to my brother. The DMV kept renewing her license. Utah has now passed laws about that after a certain age.
Dinner - that chicken something didn't appear last night, but will in the form of chicken spaghetti, a Pioneer Woman recipe tonight with a salad.
Enjoy,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Feb 5th
Good morning from the snow-covered plains. We are to receive 3 – 6” of the white stuff. It truly is beautiful, but it’s hard on the cattle and the birds. I’m feeding the birds like crazy, and I’ll put on my big ole boots and walk out and see the cows a little later. Yesterday when I walked Ava, I pulled on a pair of wind pants over my jeans, and it made all the difference in the brutal wind! I have a new style! I look like the Michelin Man’s mama when I go walking!
With DH’s mom, we gave her the key to her car that just worked the doors and not the ignition. I was never a soccer mom when DD Was in school as I was always working, but I sure became one in retirement. DH’s mom had several clubs and lunches and doctor appointments a week! I went to town almost every day to take her somewhere. When she moved in with us, the saga continued.
Mary—I can’t do crewel embroidery with wool yarns because my hands itch so badly. I’m crocheting baby afghans for all the great grands. The first received his/hers with the baby shower gifts, and I’m working on the second one. I have the quilt and all the bibs finished to go with it. I have the yarn for #3. I don’t mind the baby sport yarn.
Jana—I like the idea of disabling the vehicles! My mom quit driving graciously. Too bad everyone isn’t that way. Seems like men are the worst about giving up the keys. My late DH was truly scary!!! He couldn’t see because of his brain tumors, and he didn’t have use of much of his left side because of tumors, but yet he thought he was a perfect driver. I just prayed that he wouldn’t take out a family or anyone but himself while I was at work and couldn't supervise or fight for the keys (and it was a FIGHT). Thankfully, my prayers were answered, and the tumor on his spine paralyzed him from the waist down and he couldn’t get to a vehicle without a LOT of help and he certainly couldn’t drive with no use of his feet.
Dinner tonight will be leftovers and salad. I have some meatball stroganoff that I made last evening after our Audubon meeting was cancelled due to the weather forecast.
Bon appétit!

Good morning ladies.
I thought I was here yesterday, but must have had a senior moment, or something.....
Ah, the driving thing, actually, I am looking forward to the baby brats taking my keys! Most days I don't know if I am coming or going. I remember my dad trying to get my grandpa to quit driving. He wasn't having none of that! I will never forget the day I got my license, Grandpa came over (we lived next door to him) and handed me his car keys and said, I guess I am done, now you can drive me where I need to go. And then he left, never forget the look on my dad's face....he was shocked! JR will be having that conversation soon with his folks.....Both of mine were gone before we had to have that....
Mary, do you use one of those braces? I am contemplating one for sewing. It has been killing my back to sit at the machine lately.
Chickie, I am hating your forecast, ours is much the same, I think the reports are anywhere from 3 to 8 inches, and since my DD is gone for work, I am the taxi....Brytt has to go to work at noon, it just started here, I am sure going in will be ok, for the most part, but getting her home at 6 may be iffy.....
Jana, your recipes sound interesting, wish my bunch would try some things. On the other hand, should they try a few, maybe they wouldn't try again!
So, I guess tonight will maybe be some spaghetti & meatballs. I can do the sauce ahead, (save a few without sauce for the picky one) and put it in the crockpot, then fix the noodles when I get home....and salad.....

Hi everyone!
Brrrrrr it must be cold everywhere today! We're finally at 40 and I'm still feeling very cold in my bones.
I got to play this morning, traced, cut out and ironed together my applique for my Swing into Spring swap blocks. I'm really happy with it, it's a happy little scene.
Mom used to drive since my dad started having bank surgeries in 1976, he's had a total of 5 of them. He taught me how to drive in a parking lot. I remember when my maternal grandma passed away in 74 Dad drove us across country to Indiana and the was the last time he drove across country until 2018 when he drove their motorhome to Virginia. I know I have more grey hairs from that trip. Yep in a perfect world he would admit he shouldn't be driving but since we don't live in that world..... it does drive me crazy. I guess it's just hard for some people to admit to the fact that they shouldn't be driving.
Supper tonight will be leftover chicken and roasted veggies.
Tina
