SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Jan 24

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Jan 24, 2020 6:09 am

Good morning,

Another mostly rainy day here. Sigh. And it's moving east - just giving all y'all a heads up!

News on the Seattle shooting is somewhat good - 4 of the 7 victims have been released from the hospital. The last 3 are improving. One of the "victims" apparently was one of the shooters, so they have him in custody and they know who the other two are. I'm sure they'll get them before long. It apparently was a drug deal gone bad and the victims got caught in the crossfire. There was another shooting at the same location the evening before. And the reason the cops got there so fast for this big shooting is because they were already on scene of another incident only 4 blocks away! Though in that case, it was the cops doing the shooting. Score one for the good guys! Seattle has really gone downhill since the present mayor took office 5 years ago. We were so surprised when she was re-elected. Her policies - or lack thereof - have practically handed the city over to the bad guys. So glad we don't live there. We are across Puget Sound, on the Olympic Peninsula.

Yesterday I did a short list of uglies - kitchen, bathroom, swept floors, did one load of laundry - and then spent the rest of the day working on my Country Charmer. It's a fun quilt but each 8-1/2" block has 53 pieces so it's slow going. I have 4 of 20 done and all the rest are cut and in small baggies. This morning I have a chiro appt, then will probably swing by the grocery store for a few items. Then home to clean the second bathroom and do another load of wash before hitting the sewing room. If it's not raining too heavy, the boys might meet me after shopping to walk.

Bill's niece is a family social worker in another county at the coast and posted a notice yesterday on FB about a fundraising Valentine dinner/dance being held at a resort/casino on the coast. Since we love dancing, dining, and it will be over our anniversary, we bought tickets and I'm really looking forward to it. The casino has RV parking so we'll take the trailer and the boys with us. It's about 120 miles from us. Bill's sis, dbil, niece, and her dh are also going which will make it all the more fun. Maybe we'll make a short little trip out of it rather than just a one-nighter.

IRISH - I thought I remembered your sister was having a second knee surgery this month, but wasn't sure. Glad it's over and done with and now she just needs to recover! Sending her get well hugs! And speaking of hugs - OMG! What a wonderful surprise you had!! I bet you were over the moon! Is Nick staying with you, or did he just stop by? Bet this next week will have some happy family times! So much going on in your life right now!

BECCA - I didn't realize that the DGD starting the bakery was Wren & Co's mom! She is one busy lady!! But it's usually busy people who succeed! I wish her well!

BECKY - shopping is fun! And it's always good to know just what you want when the opportunity to buy finally presents itself. And I have to agree with JANA - if your kids lived here, they would probably be hungry or cooking for themselves most of the time!

LORI - how far do you live from R2CA? I wonder how it compares to Houston. I've been to Houston twice. It took me 2 days to just go through the vendors and I skipped 2/3 of them! I took an hour and raced through the quilts.

JANA - hope you got your cars all squared away.

As for our supper - It's really soup or chili weather. Should I finally try that dill pickle soup recipe? How bad can it be? I'm really curious about it. But I better have a Plan B ready to go just in case. hmmmm....Subway isn't too far away . . . . Or we could simply have pancakes and sausages. There we go! Plan "A" and Plan "B", and if we get desperate, Plan "C"! Stay tuned . . . . :P

Good morning! If I only had a brain!!! I must be the spawn of the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz! (If you saw me in the morning, you would be convinced.) I posted the other day, but it was on the wrong day. I was reading back what everyone had posted, and I posted my piece there… a day late and a dollar short.

Oh well. I had said that I completed the baby quilt, and I’m now working on the burp cloths and bibs. One day my plans didn’t materialize. I started reading a book and then watched a movie with DH. It was a dark, rainy, snowy and gloomy afternoon. It’s hard for me to get enough light to sew when it’s dark outside. I’m sure it’s just in my imagination, but I don’t like gloom. I just want to hibernate and wake up to long sunny days!

Mary—I don’t think it’s just Seattle that has shootings and drug deals gone wrong. We live in the meth capital of the US. It’s surprising how bad Parsons has become. There have been several murders, and a lot of other crimes that are just SICK!!! I love living in the country, but there are mobile meth operations all over. It’s sad that Paradise is becoming Purgatory or Hell.

Lori—I envy you your visits to R2CA. I think Carol-Q7 goes frequently, too. I feel fortunate to get to go to the Little Balkans show put on by the guild in my DD’s town. They have just enough vendors to do damage to my plastic, and usually they have a nice selection of quilts.

Becky—We have missed so much of the weather yuck that you have been getting! Sorry to blow it all over to you! Last night we had a bit of snow and freezing rain, but it should be warm enough today to melt.

Jana—I have a sparkly 49ers T shirt that I will be wearing. It’s a mixed emotions day—the Chiefs are the local team favorite, but my heart lies with my hometown. And, of course, I do remember Joe Montana!

Irish—Speaking of Joe—what a special guy!!! I remember that he and your Chris were good friends. He and Jerry Rice were magic together! I was happy he came to play for the Chiefs.

Becca—a bakery sounds awesome!!! Hope she has a rousing success!!!

Dill pickle soup??? I need to check that out, but I’d be the only one to eat it, even if it was fabulous! I made sushi on Wednesday. I was shocked that it really came out yummy. And, I did not use raw fish but a packet of cooked salmon in some and some were vegetarian. I think I should make it every week and try new fillings. Of course, DH does not taste.

Tonight we are meeting friends at the steak house for dinner. Hopefully no one will cancel. We have been trying since the first weekend of January! Weather and illness have been the factors that cancelled our plans each Friday. So… Reservations!!! My favorite thing to make!

Bon appétit!

Good morning ladies,
Another snow day here....sigh.....JR thinks about 5 inches, but haven't heard the official yet. He and DD went into work, but said roads are horrible. Hope the plows get out soon, although, our gravel road and driveway won't be helped by that.....maybe it will warm up to help. The trees are just beautiful though.
I don't think I will say thanks for it though, Chickie! I like to sit with some old sitcoms on TV while I cross stitch on gloomy days.....yesterday was one of those days.
Mary, that is horrible about your shootings. We have a lot of that in Columbia, I guess it is a halfway point between KC & St. Louis, that is what they are blaming it on, anyway.....
Irish, that is awesome that your Nick surprised you! Have a blessed reunion....hope the two years fly by. Maybe you can visit England!
I hate to do the mending and hemming, Jana....hopefully on to better things soon....
I put some ham and beans in the crockpot.....the kids do fend for themselves some of the time, I just hate the mess when they do....HA.....what they say is clean and my opinion are not the same....
Well, guess I better get started....have some 9-patches to finish for a D9P....totally different fabrics than was planned, so we will see......Have a great day!.

Good morning!

Mary - first off - dill pickle soup goes in the catagory of cat food! Yuck, double yuck! Even triple yuck - can you tell I hate pickles! I won't mention that there is a recipe for such to Sarah - she loves pickles and if we went to dinner at her house she would make some. Enjoy the anniversary trip - sounds like lots of fun.

Chickie - my shirt is shipped and I can't wait for it to arrive. Back when Steve Young was QB, his younger brother was serving a mission for the church in our area and became friends with Matt. Steve Young would come to visit his brother and Matt met him several times. It was hard for Steve Young to avoid the press and do this, so Matt didn't say when until after the visits.

Becca - bread making is getting to be a lost art, just like quilting. I love baking bread. I even have taught a few how to as well.

Dinner - my MIL's baked chicken - it has a bread crumb coating with seasinings and parmesan cheese. Might scare up a veggie and a potato something too.

Heading to hem some church pants for Ethan. He has outgrown the current ones. Needed a bigger white shirt, shoes and pants. He also thinks he is the cat's meow with a new pair of suspenders to hold the pants up. Grandma bought him a bow tie for Christmas - loves that too.

Hopefully I can sew,

Enjoy,
Jana

Maryz, I'm 26 miles from the show. It take about 35 minutes to get there. I've never been to Houston, but I think Road is maybe 1/3 the size. We also have the International Long Beach show comig back this year. It's a bit bigger. I did like the way they displayed the quilts this year. They had most of them in a different room Way easier to enjoy that way.

Chickie, sometimes you just want to read and watch movies. That happens to me once in a while, but not very often. I'm all about seeing the quilts. Most people just want to shop. I can shop anytime. When you get to see the quilts in person, they are amazing. Pictures don't do them justice.

Becca, hope you skies clear and it's a fabulous day.

Jana, I bet Ethan looks pretty handsome in his new duds.

Well the show was great yesterday. I may go back on Sunday to look around a bit more. It's hard when you are with someone else.

I think I will grill up some chicken and make tacos for dinner. Our weather is really nice, so I may spend part of the day outside in the yard.

Have a lovely day.
Lori 8-)
