SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Jan 8

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Jan 08, 2020 6:30 am

Good morning,

Our spaghetti dinner party went great last night. One of our guests, Susie, was diagnosed yesterday with RA, which wasn't a huge surprise to her, but still left her a bit bummed. I'm hoping the comraderie of last night helped her through that initial realization as she took it in. The other couple, Gus & Claudia, coming home from a 6-week Australian cruise, got delayed a full day when the last leg of their trip home, a 45-min. flight from Vancouver, B.C. to Seattle, was cancelled due to weather. They rolled from the Seattle airport to home (about an hour trip), dropped their bags, and rushed over here, only 1-1/2 hrs late. Almost purrfect timing, all things considered! All of our food turned out great, and everyone went home happy. Now the dishes are done, the house is clean, the laundry is caught up, and the purging is FINISHED! I finally cleaned out that pesky linen closet and we dropped our last carload of stuff at the Goodwill donation door. Today is MINE! I'm going to make a decision on what block to make for the Swing Into Spring Swap, fuse bunnies for my baby quilt, and "read" my audio book while I work. Going to be a great day!

JANA - sounds like Christmas is slowly disappearing at your house. Maybe Michael should build a track that runs all around your great room at the top of the ceiling and leave the train up all year long . . . . Just an idea . . . :D

CHICKIE - did you get to eat out last night? What was the topic for the Audobon meeting? And did you finish D's quilt?

BECCA - Denise inspired you and you inspired me! Now we all have clean cabinets! Most of my inspiration for almost everything comes from forum friends! Thank you! The difference, for me, anyway, this time I seem to be keeping my cabinets, drawers, nooks, and crannies clean and clutter free! (most of them, anayway) Only took me 50 years of adulthood to manage this.

BECKY - my 'jammies' are usually knee length sleep tee shirts and I often don't get around to getting dressed if I really get into chores. I had one once that had a silk=screened picture of a curvacious female body in lacy teddy and garter belt on the front. I forgot I was wearing it and answered the door to the UPS man, chatted with him a bit, and it wasn't until I'd closed the door and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror in the entry way that I realized how I must have looked to him! I still wear my jammies to do chores, but I'm more careful about answering the door now! Does that tater tot recipe you have include baked beans, hamburger, and tots? My LDH#2, Roy, made something like that. I think I still have his recipe!

CAROL - You are in So Cal, right? Our neighbors (the landscaper neighbor) are in that area now in the RV for the month of January and texted that they are 68-75*. Wonderful in January, but dont' think I want to be there in August! Happy cabinet cleaning! It's catching and it spreads!

We have just enough spaghetti left over for tonite. I bought a packaged Ceasar salad for yesterday but thought the lettuce wasn't worthy of company so used my own fresh lettuce instead. So tonight we'll eat the questionable salad. I also got a 6" cheesecake at the store - a selection of eight very small portions of four different varieties. It was the purrfect dessert - not too much. And there's still 2 slices left! :D So no cooking tonite!

How about you?

Good morning!
Mary, your friends had quite the adventure trip home, glad it all worked out for timing!
We're going to purge our filling cabinet in March, Frankie won't be working anymore and it's bother him so I'm going to supervise LOL I have to watch him or he'll throw everything away.... don't want birth certificates and marriage license and tax forms disappearing. There's other things too.... ya know.
Supper tonight is going to be a medley of roasted veggies and either pork chops (if I have any), chicken or 1 London broil cut into 3 pieces. We're (Dad and me) are trying to lose weight.

Good morning Mary. Yes our weather has been lovely the last few days. It was 78 degrees Monday and Tuesday. We gave Wrigley and Jack a bath on Monday since the weather was so nice. I love a clean doggie.

Well I've been down with a cold. Feeling better though.lots of sleep and cold meds. I have been sewing a bit though.
I made a cute table runner and small quilt too that I already had fabric for.

Don't know what's for dinner tonight, but I'll be making lemon bars today. I have lemons from the neighbors tree that I need to use. DH will be very happy.

Have a lovely day.

Good morning!

Started snowing, just a few flakes, more to come. First of several storms in the next few days. At least we are at 32 degrees!

Not much here. A few uglies and washing a front window, removing cat nose prints and grandchildren's finger painting with ucky buck cookie gucky. Don't know which one, but have some ideas.

Also should go to the grocery store, but we can get by until after the snow stops.

My new pattern from Kimberbell Co, arrived. It is a long pillow for my garden bench. Kimberbell has patterns for machine applique using the embroidery module of my sewing machine. You can do them the old fashioned way as well. This pattern you make the pillow form and then change the covers for different things during the year. We found these at the quilt show last year. And then I saw this one. It is houses, bird houses and quilt blocks - fun! Another scrap user up pattern.

Dinner - maybe chili - I have fritos and can make rice. Also there is some avocado too. Around here it is sometimes refered to as Kitchen Sink chili - anything and everything you want on it. Cheese and onions too.

Well, that window needs to be done first, before I put back some furniture in the way.

Enjoy!

Good barely still morning Ladies!
I think my morning got away from me.
That is too funny about your night shirt, Mary. I wear those type nightshirts too. Have a lot, because I tend to stay in them a lot of the day too....I think my problem is in the wintertime, when I put one of my robes over them....tends to make me lazier. I had been ahead for baby quilts for a bit, had a couple two color checkerboard style ones on hand, in case one of my many nieces and nephews caught me off guard, but, that happened a few too many times, so need to re-group here. I got some pink/white bubble patter fabric awhile back, it make a beautiful quilt, used it for the backing and the main color in the front. My niece loved it! Considering that I was told about the baby a few weeks before her shower, she felt lucky!
No baked beans in the tater tot casserole, actually pretty tame, or my grands don't eat it! Just fried hamburger with onion, mixed with cream of celery soup, then the layer of tots, covered in a bunch of cheese.....I have added veggies under the tots, but they don't like that.....
Tina, JR doesn't throw nothing away! And I am not sure he even knows that we have a filing cabinet....
Becca, I am very thankful for my sisters, but don't think I want to live closer to them. We do chat most weeks for a bit, though.....
Chickie, hope you keep that rain and any snow that shows up your way. It has been kind of nice here the last few days. Not as nice as Lori's weather, but nice for us, in January.
Well, dinner tonight, I think maybe some potato soup, and smoked sausage for those ones that think we need a meat or something, and cornbread.....Hope you all have a great day!

Good afternoon from a very mixed up (weather wise) SW. Pa....One minute, the sun is brilliant, the next, we have a blizzard moving through....Mother Nature is having a fun day with us, today.....

Mary, sounds like your dinner party was a huge success even if some were late...But, what a story to tell, what an adventure...The last time I was with Kathy, we brought home one of those cheese cakes and it was perfect...Just a little, just enough.....You really had me smiling with the UPS story...I have a terrible time getting dressed in the morning...I wear crazy flannel PJs and a fluffy robe and I'm sure the neighbors have a good laugh when they see me out getting the paper or feeding the birds....

Jana, I like Mary's suggestion about the train running all year round...In Florida, at the Shell Factory, they have a track close to the ceiling and it runs through the different rooms...I noticed a couple of my windows could use a good cleaning, mostly on the outside from the rain...And even though they tilt in, it's still too cold, so I just pull the drapes shut....

Becca, my heavens, you've been busy...I have been going through drawers etc. and finding things I thought or should have been thrown away...Of course things that I thought was so important is now hitting the trash...But, I'm making piles for each of the kids and will let them decide what they want to keep or throw....

I'm going to have to "git", waiting for an electrician to stop down....But, have to tell you about my exciting day, yesterday...Baby Girl and I woke up to a chilly house, it was only 55...Called my neighbor, Ted and he fiddled with the furnace for about 2 hours and finally said, better call "my guy"...So, my guy came down, checked everything and traced the problem back to the breaker box...He got things working and also suggested I call to have everything checked out...Then when I told him I was thinking of selling, he said to have the electrician (who is a friend of Kevin's) check out all the antique wiring and lights and get them replaced...Even if I stay, these things should be done...AND, then I told Terry to have his realtor give me a call so, next Tuesday, I'm having her come and tell me what needs to be done...With the 2 houses that Jim and I bought, we never had a mortgage so this might be a whole new experience...But, I'm hoping for the best, I really do like the house near my sister but we'll see...I keep telling myself, if you are selling, you sell the house but you take all the memories with you....

As for dinner, I just had lunch so dinner might be that bowl of cereal.....

You all have a great rest of the day....

Happy eating.............
