SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Dec 16
Good morning,
We are 37* this morning, going to a high of 43* with light showers. Pretty do-able for mid-December. Our landscaping crew should be back for another 1/2 day of work today or more probably, tomorrow. I can't wait to see it all finished!
Yesterday I got half of my 48 FGV blocks together and the rest of them are sashed and waiting. When I do cornerstones I put sashing on the blocks and then put the blocks together. If I sew the stones and strips together and stitch them to rows of blocks I can never get the seams to come out right, even if I pin. But I may get that top together today. Then to hunt up some 30's border fabric, and finally, backing. Then it will go on the quilting pile for Bill.
We watched football yesterday and Seahawks won their game, which was awesome, but the REAL game to watch was JANA's Forty-niners vs. Falcons. Jana, I'm sorry (for you) that your team lost, but the last two minutes of that game (which is all we saw) had to be some of the most exciting in football history! Actually, it was the last 30 seconds that had plays like no one had ever seen, and the Falcons scored TWO touchdowns in the last 5 SECONDS to win. I saw you couldn't get the game on TV, but were you able to listen to it on the radio? This is the game that will be water cooler talk for a long time to come!
BECKY - did you start that little bit of baking yet? You say no one has an opinion about what you should bake, but I bet if you don't bake their favorites, you'll start hearing opinions! lol!
CHICKIE - the babies - well, their parents - will love having those stockings for this Christmas! You are always so thoughtful! I haven't been to Chinatown in San Fran for several decades. I wonder what it's like now. I'm sure it's changed! Reports are that all of SF has changed. Hope your weather improves today.
JANA - So sorry about your cousin. Too young! I've seen those ads for the flu med that lessons severity of the symptoms and the length of the disease. But like you said, you have to get to the doctor within 48 hours of the appearance of the first symptom.
TINA - so you got the day off yesterday? Hooray!! Did you get to go to the concert in Cruces? and yes, I do remember that your summer was shortened by about 6 weeks. Hard on you, and also hard on teachers that take other summer jobs! I hope they don't do that again! How is the sewing going?
BECCA - that is a LOT of cousins! I don't have any! But I do claim my step-3rd cousin who is also named Mary. Her Great-grandmother and my great-grandfather both had families, both were widowed, and married each other. Mary is one of 9 kids but she is the only one I actually know. She house-sits for us occasionally.
IRISH, how is your nephew doing?
Several of you have had red beans lately and you are making me hungry for them so that's what I think will be our supper tonite. I don't have ham or kielbasa but I do have some canned pork that might work. And potatoes. I also have enough fresh veggies for a salad. And cupcakes. Chocolate cupcakes with peanut filling. I don't care much for chocolate cake, but I have to say these cupcakes from scratch are pretty good!
What's your supper plan?

Good morning!
Mary - no TV or radio here - I could check on the score of the game in my tablet - but no info - I saw that the last 5 seconds took forever, but had no idea why. Then finally saw we lost. There have been two games like that one so far this season, yesterday's and the one with the Seahawks. Probably one more too, the last game of the season, with the Seahawks, again. I got stuck with the stupid Dallas game on TV, which I didn't watch.
Dinner - I have a pork steak, which I will pound thinner to cook and add a salad. Nothing fancy.
I am sure we will see kids today. The train is being set up. The kids call, is the train up yet? I will be cleaning the oxidation from the track before Michael lays it it place. Not a hard job, just tedious. Otherwise, the train doesn't pick up power to run. Easier to do before the track is on the floor. I have a app for controlling the train - speed, bell, whistle, forward, backward and stopping - all the kids have it on their phones too. Grandmother must make sure that the little ones get equal opportunity to run the train!
About 8 inches of new snow fell last night. Now the ground looks pretty again.
Aaron and Kate both have to work on Christmas morning. They are telling Gracie, that Santa is making his delivery to their house last, so Mom and Dad can help others. The girls are coming here for the morning as Kate and Aaron only need to be on duty for a half shift. Aaron will be home first and put everything out under the tree and then come get the girls when Kate is finished. Gracie is still young enough to buy such a tall tale. They will have something here to open and play with. This will happen again next year, as the kids know their work schedules already.
Enjoy!

Good morning!
Mary, I'm so excited to see your finished landscaping job! Your temps sound like carbon copies of ours but we're not getting any rain. I found out for Christmas that we're going to be in the upper 50's so there won't be any white Christmas here, bummer.
I didn't get to go to the concert, Dad didn't either because it was just too windy. I wish they'd have them on Saturdays, Saturdays seem better in my mind
I got all the kids presents sorted and wrapped yesterday and the only thing I'm off on is an outfit of clothes for Easton. I don't have any clothes for him so when we go to Cruces on Saturday I'll find him something. He's our very picky child when it comes to clothes, he wants his socks squeezing his feet but with no seams, his pants can't have elastic on the cuffs or be tight on the cuffs and they have to fit a little loose but not too much and they have to be soft. His shirts have to be soft and comfy. It's a challenge to find clothes for him. I have 6 adult packages to wrap and then I still need to shop for Frankie, I know what I'm getting just need to do that maybe today.
Sewing didn't happen yesterday, my left ankle was too swollen and hurting after the wrapping so I had to put it up for awhile.
Becky, I hope you get lots of help in the baking and cooking department. Holly and the kids will be here either Sunday or Monday for our annual bake fest!

❤
Jana, are you going to post pics of the train? Hint hint
Supper, hmmmmm need to check the freezer first.
Tina

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Dec 16
Good morning! It’s a good day to stay tucked inside here—freezing rain, sleet and snow showers on the prairie today. But, in typical Kansas weather, we should be in the low 40s tomorrow! I’ll be walking Ava and Choc today, so I may bundle up and walk if it’s not too bad. I really don’t want to scrape all the ice off my truck.
Yesterday I took stock of my gifts and got everything wrapped. The only thing left, I think, is quilting my sister-in-law’s wall hanging/throw. I’m thinking I will wait until after Christmas so I can do it justice. She will get a UFO and a promise.
Tomorrow I’m baking my DGS’s cookie for his 21st birthday. I have no idea at the moment what I’ll be putting on it. DH also has an ultrasound on his kidneys tomorrow. While we are out I’ll stop at my sister’s and take her gift.
Mary—I can’t believe that the Niner’s lost in such a tragic manner. I was watching the KC-Denver game until DH came in and changed channels. It was sure white on the field there! I have to assume that Denver didn’t pull the game out like the Falcons… did they? Your cupcakes sound yummy! My grandma made the best chocolate cake—dark, moist and flavorful. DH likes white cake, so I don’t make the chocolate often.
Jana—your train has to be the hit of the season! What fun for everyone to be an engineer! We don’t have snow here, just ice. I helped load two ricks of wood yesterday, and the grass was coated with ice as was the woodpile. Our son and his girlfriend always work the holidays so that families with kids can have their parents home on Christmas morning. I think that’s special, and I think Aaron and Kate are both unselfish as well.
Tina—I always hope we do NOT have a white Christmas! Looks like we may be in the 50s, which is just fine for me.
DH is home for brunch, so I need to get to cooking… Dinner tonight—anybody’s guess as to what falls out of the freezer.
Bon appétit!

Late here after a trying day
We went to DMV just to get CAs ID renewed Yes it runs out just like license
Waited over an hr 1/2 Then to lunch & his burger was half raw Then To WMart Never went in too many people Came home so Marty could visit us
Then had to be back in Town at 400 for CA to see Dr about soreS around his mouth Been there at least 6 weeks Then to Drug store Got home at dark
So my day was fruitless only to visit with Marty
Sure hope tomorrow is better
At least I had a good bowl of broccoli soup for lunch Will comment on your goings on tomorrow Becca
