Supper Club June 7th

Post by zfatcat » Fri Jun 07, 2019 1:48 am

Well good morning.

My day yesterday was a little out of wack. One of my kitties had to have some bad teeth pulled. I had to pick her up at 4pm, so we didn't make it to the farmers market. Bummer. I'll find a fruit stand in the area to get a few things, and the rest will have to be from Sprouts or Trader Joe's. I hate that they package so much of their fruits and veggies in plastic. I try not to buy things in plastic, but it's hard these days. There was an news story on this morning that because of all the plastic packaging and drinks, we are ingesting a certain amount of plastic. That can't be good.

Well we didn't have our burgers yesterday. Might make meatballs instead. Spaghetti sounds good. Maybe some garlic bread to go with it and some red wine.

Have a Lovely day.

Good morning!

Lori - so sorry about little kitty. We have a Sprouts market here. I go directly to the farm, just down the block. It is where Sarah ran that farm. The Sprouts store here represented that they had local produce, right from the farm down the block. They didn't. And still don't.

Dinner tonight is green chili enchiladas. I am cheating by using chicken from Costco, that is pre cooked.

Working on my swap blocks and listening to Michael watching a train show, telling me all the problems with the engineering. Fun! Haha!

Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon! Thought I should try to get checked in at the table at least once or twice this week! I hardly see my computer, and it’s so hard to post from my phone.

Mom is doing about as usual. I helped give bath yesterday. She requires more and more assistance.

Lori—I picked all the cherries at the old home site. Most of the trees are gone, but I got enough to make 16 half-pint jars of cherry jam (2 batches) and two pies. I took one of the pies to my DD and her family on Wednesday. She had the afternoon off since she works tomorrow, and I had a doctor appointment over there that morning (all good).

I texted my DD to see if they liked cherry pie, and she came back with “No! We love it!!!” Yesterday I took a piece of pie to my BIL and to Mom. (My sister is on Atkins, so no dessert.) I gave Mom a half slice for lunch, and she looked it over and ate it and practically scraped the design off the plate and licked it before she finished. She never said a word. Finally I asked if she liked it, and she said it was REALLY good. Last evening, my sister gave her the rest of her piece of pie for supper. Mom looked it over and hesitated. My sister asked her what was wrong. Mom said a little ice cream would be good with it. Fortunately, my sister had enough ice cream for Mom and her DH.

We don’t have much at farmer’s market here, and it is at odd hours for me to make it to town. That’s one of the problems with living in the middle of nowhere. I too, try to not buy things in plastic, either. I’m making shopping bags from recycled feed sacks. My DD is excited to get the bird seed ones! I need to find a source for some handle webbing.

Becca—we are now quite warm and rainless. I’m having to water my flowers in pots on the porch.

Jana—I go to DS3’s garden once the produce starts coming in. I walk Choc and hit his tomatoes, peppers, etc. Your menu sounds wonderful!

I’m fixing steak for DH, and I have a chicken breast leftover. We also have fresh asparagus courtesy the neighbors. I will pull some corn on the cob from the freezer and add a salad for me. Pie for DH for afters. Tomorrow… I may be raiding the freezer for the “good stuff”. Hopefully Mary is avoiding internet and won’t see this.

Bon appétit!
