SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, May 18th
Good morning,
Today is the 39th anniversary of the day Mt. St. Helens blew her top. we were camping and the rangers woke us up and told us to get out, but 15 minutes later decided the roads were so dangerous so kept us in the park. We spent the day playing games with the kids in a picnic shelter. It looked like snow coming down. I still have a jar of ash that we collected. And a few years later two of my brothers drove log trucks that helped to salvage the timber that was blown flat by the blast. Trees looked like thousands of giant toothpicks laying on the mountainside.
But today - no mountains! I got my sewing room cleaned up but need to vacuum yet. I also got all my sewing projects for traveling organized, fabrics cut, and everything is packed and staged to go out to the trailer. Bill is still working out there, running wires through walls to the exterior lights he is installing on the back of our trailer. I will be making blackberry jam for Gene today but need to go to store for sugar. I have everything else ready to go. Maybe I'll buy some strawberries, too, for jam. I don't know what his favorite is . . . I was only 2 yrs old when he left home so I missed a few little details about him like that.
BECCA - sounds like you are going to be warm today! I call a porch day for you!!
JANA - that's a nice wedding gift! Those bath sheets at Costco are nice! I often give away my jam and sometimes even get the jars back. But I have a hunch I'll never see these pints again since they are going to Alaska. I usually make jam in half-pints but since I have a case of new pints, I'm using them instead - fewer jars to break on the jouncing Alaska Highway! How was the new chicken noodle soup?
What was new about it? Thinking of your Kate today.
TINA - that's a lot of banana bread! Did you add nuts? I love nuts in anything. But don't put nuts in Bill's. He's not as nutty as I am.
We might be having pasta tonite. There is a little meatloaf left and it makes great "meatballs" for spaghetti. Though Bill said he didnt' like it so maybe I'll just toss it out instead and go with chicken - again. Trying to eat down the freezer before we go and chicken is about all that's left. We can't take meat or fresh produce over the border.
What's going on your plate tonite - or in your bowl?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, May 18th
Good Morning World and you too MaryZ. Hope you have a delightful trip. I would love to be packing to go camping. After over 8 yrs on road in motorhome, I sure do miss it. Rod and I are kicking and screaming as we are being drug into old age. Old age is NOT for sissies or anyone else but considering the alternative, we are grateful for each new day.
This new day started with thunder and sprinkles. Had just enough time to grab trash and head down to dumpster before it hit. We are supposed to have T-storms for today and into tomorrow, maybe next 3 or 4 days too.
Tornadoes hit out in western Ks last night. Haven't heard about any damage yet but just turned tv on. Chance of tornados here today too so will be a stay in day. It is pouring down right now anyway and they said lightning will be bad all day.
We just finished up a garage sale. Never ever again!!!!! We had been cool for awhile but day we opened up on Wed, it got up to 89.and so humid and windy too. Second day, the cotton started flying off the cottonwood trees and ended up in garage and sale stuff in driveway.
Rod is allergic to cottonwood. Didn't make his day any better.
Horribly hot and humid that day, Rod got sick and almost passed out. Gave up about 2 and closed up shop, loaded what was left in sale into car and hauled it away. Sold most of what we had cleaned out of garage and didn't have much left to sell anyway. The sales last 4 days. We were lucky to survive two. LOL
We share a garage with a neighbor (sweet lady, 88 yo)so even after Rod got sick, I was never alone in the garage. Other neighbors came over to sit with us too and visit during the sale. It was a community garage sales so lots of people around. Fun but tiring.
Day we decided to quit, we marked lots down and just gave away lots more. So many smiling people left our driveway, loaded down with our junk and their treasures. LOL Sent 2 people to office to ck out renting in here. They like our happy little neighborhood. Senior complex.
Sorry been MIA for awhile. Rod has so many health problems now, dr apptmts every week for OccT, acupuncture, group therapy for pain mgtmt plus an asstmt of other dr visits and blood tests etc. I try to read from time to time just no time to sit down and write.
So sorry to hear about everyone's health problems, accidents, and loss of family members. May God bless each and every one of you today and all your tomorrows too. Prayers for all each day. Take care and enjoy springtime. Hugs and love, Shirley Mae
PS.... I brought in a bouquet of pink peonies and pink and red roses this am. The storms will prob wipe them out today.

Good afternoon!
Home from the sevice. It was very nice. I can say firmly, I detest funerals! Kate sang a duet with her older sister, a nice sister, and did beautifully. She made it through the entire song and didn't lose her composure at all. Sarah and Crenda had the girls, and it was Lila's naptime, so Sarah walked the back of the chapel with Lila until she fell asleep. They all went to the gravesite and then the luncheon later. We just came home.
Dinner tonight is chicken caesar salads. My new recipe for chicjen noodle soup is good. The only thing that needs slight changing is the amount of broth to goodies. I like more goodies, Michael likes more broth. It thickened up quite a bit, so I will just add more broth than the recipe calls for.
Crenda is giving a baby shower for a young mom, who they have been helping out. A long story. So I have a quilt for a little girl I started many grandchildren ago, so I will finish it for this shower. The top is almost done and then a quick meander on my LA. The shower is the 28th.
I will be busy with the embroidery part of my machine too. I have the one set of towels for the first wedding invitation, and today received another invitation for another one of the young girls in my Ward. So Monday another trip to Costco.
Need to get going, Michael needs bread, so I am being very pioneerish - grinding my own wheat into flour and making him some. We were until recently able to buy a good whole wheat bread, but the company no longer makes it, so back to me making it.
Enjoy!
Jana
