Supper club -Sunday, Jan 27
Good morning!
I woke up really early this morning. Guess I’m still operating between times zones. Of course, our boys are always willing to eat early if I get up. LOL! Today’s drive will take us through Northern California, the Siskyou mountains, and into southern Oregon. We will spend the night at another casino, seven feathers. We will probably eat supper in their café. We try to patronize the casinos when they let us park for free. But food here at the Colusa Casino isn’t very good so last night we fed ourselves.
Tina, I have one word for Frankie about is greasy work clothes-coveralls! I hope your leg treatment yesterday went well for you
Becca, good to hear that your hubby is off the couch and upright!
Jana, Believe it or not, Our map doesn’t have Elverta on it. I looked it up on the Internet and found most of the towns close by but not that one. It must be tiny. Some people are idiots in flooding. We have been in this area during floods. It was really scary.
Chickie, don’t think I didn’t notice your post of a day or two ago about TWO forbidden dinners! I had to wash my eyes out after reading about them!
So tonight will be our last dinner on the road and almost certainly will be in the café at seven feathers casino. Our neighbor never caught up to us last night but they do plan to spend their last night on the road at seven feathers as well so we may be sharing a table with them.
What’s the plan at your house?

Good morning!
Mary - Elverta is a wide spot in the road. It is near another very small town of Pleasant Grove, where the kids eventually want to buy a house. It is that fire department that Daniel works out of. They love that area and it is where his great grandfather's railroad ran and Daniel knows all the stories and places from him. Home is clise! I know when home is that close, we tend to push hard to get there!
Dinner tonight is a pastrami sandwich. The pastrami that we made and Aaron smoked is out of this world delish! It took a week of brining, then Aaron smoked it yesterday. Only had a small taste as we needed to cool it before slicing it up thin. That is my today project. I will share it with the kids, as the piece was a large brisket to start with. This will be done again! Pastrami and bacon are definetely better homemade! Aaron is learning well.
Church is in a littke while. Muchael is teaching today. May get yo sew later after church, we will see...
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon! We are chilly and gloomy. Tomorrow will be back to cold, and I’ll be back to taking care of dogs. We also have visitation for friend, and his funeral on Tuesday.
Oh a happier note, my friend received her quilt yesterday, and she loves it! I’m so pleased. She’s been a special friend since junior high school. When we were in drum corps, we didn’t have school busses to take us to the parades. My friend’s parents had a station wagon. I had no drivers in my family. My friend had a baton only as the drum major. I had a bass drum. Not very many people could/would haul my bass drum, but her parents did and willingly hauled it to all of our parades. I have cherished their kindness over the years. Her mom and my mom retired from the State of Kansas at the same time, and their retirement party was together. Over the years and over the miles we have exchanged post cards, photos and Christmas letters and cards.
Jana—you MADE pastrami? Wow! And, YUMMMM!!! I want to come live with you! Our little town is unincorporated, and our fire department is all volunteer. It’s made up of a great bunch of young people who are very well trained. Wow! That’s quite a jump in business for Sarah!!!
Mary—you can almost smell the harbor of home! Best wishes for safe travel the rest of the way! Ha, ha! Our forbidden foods were delicious! I guess your eyes are really clean now!!!
Tina—my DH gets his clothes filthy, too. Generally they are not grease and diesel… generally. But, they do get nasty! When he’s worked on some sewers, I’ve had him leave them outside as well. Once I just said to pitch them as he’d worn old worn-out garments. Ugh! You really had a successful day!
The quilt I’m working on for my cousin is tied. I got it all pinned and am tying it now. He wanted to keep the yarn ties on the front—they are all matching colors, although some are missing and I’ll have to see if I have any yarn that might work for them---so I am tying from the back using red and white crochet thread. The backing is a red/white/black with a little blue and tan plaid fabric—kind of a flannel, but I’m not sure exactly what it is. My cousin sent it with the quilt. I’ll be glad to get it finished. It’s quite a job. I’m running the “string” now, then I’ll clip and tie when I get finished. Last will be a binding of some sort.
Dinner tonight… I have some leftover forbidden foods.
Bon appétit!
