Supper Club Thursday November 22 THANKSGIVING!

Post by gershwin64 » Wed Nov 21, 2018 7:53 pm

I all :)
I'm just now barely making it on here today and is 12 minutes till Thursday! I'm waiting for pecan pies to come out of the oven. Frankie smoked a small turkey today, it turned out so good! Tender, juicy and a yummy flavor. We ate a little for supper and bagged the rest for tomorrow. I'll still be cooking the big turkey and a ham and everything to go with. We cleaned the house before I started cooking, Jazmyne and Frankie even did all the Windows!
Welcome Mary RN!
I forgot what all the parts were now, I think my brain is tired.
I wanted to come on and wish you all a very very Happy Thanksgiving! God Bless You All!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving however you are celebrating it.

Good morning,

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

TINA - you got the table set early this morning! Your meal sounds delicious! You're going to be busy today! But what a happy crowd! Is everyone bringing something to contribute?

IRISH - I'm sure you'll be surrounded by loving family today, but I know you'll be thinking of Jim. Hugs!! And to your dear sis, too. Will you be seeing Baby Lena today?

BECCA - I hope Your plans for the day work out and that you and CA have a rollicking time with all the family!

JANA - I'm sorry Sarah's in-laws treat her so badly. I'm sure it's a control thing to show her just who's boss. But I'm betting secretly, she's happy it's turning out the way it has. Next holiday, I hope she tells them she is making other plans but they are welcome to come next day for leftovers IF they wish! With a sweet smile, of course.

PAM - I'd probably eat a whole bag of black licorice, too, if I had one! Red - only half the bag.

SHIRLEY MAE - sounds like you and Rod have everything under control for the day.

MARY, R.N. - welcome to Supper club! What kind of nursing did you do? I worked NICU for twenty years at Tacoma General Hospital before retiring. We were just in La Pine late last June. We stayed at Mountain View RV Park for a few days and visited the obsidian flow, lava beds, cinder cone, and other wonderful places. And, of course, your beautiful quilt shop there! and from LaPine, we went to Sisters before going over to Florence on the coast. I love Oregon! We have very good friends who live just up the road in Bend. Have you checked out the rest of this forum yet?

CHICKIE - which house are you going to for TG? I know there's going to be a big happening, whichever it is! I wouldn't mind a helping of those noodles . . . .

VELDA - I know you're busy cooking that turkey in the clubhouse kitchen!

CAROLE (with an 'e') - whatever you are doing today, I hope both you and Ken are having fun and feeling OK enough to enjoy that fun!

We'll be going to my DD's later this morning. I'm going to precook the yams here but finish them in the oven at Autumn's with crushed pineapple, walnuts, brown sugar, and cinnamon and cloves. We are NOT marshmellow people. lol!. I'm also taking green beans to Aut's as well as regular russet potatoes to cook and mash. And fresh fruits to cut up for fruit salad. And a pumpkin pie. I cheated and bought the crust, more because I needed the pan it came with. I don't carry a wide variety of baking pans in our trailer. It's going to be a big day with my little girl! But it's about an hour's drive so we hope to be home before dark. There are so many deer on the roads surrounding the campground that we hate driving in the dark here. We don't want to have to be eating venison tomorrow!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all y'all!!

Mary

Happy Thanksgiving to this wonderful group! Peace and Happiness and God's Blessings to ALL.

Yes, I marched my butt up to the clubhouse just before 6AM. Got the oven preheated and the big bird in the oven on time. Cleaned up a bit and headed back to RV for a second cup of coffee. I will be heading back up to the clubhouse around 8 to check on things. I am most nervous about cutting or carving the bird. When doing it years ago just for my own family, it was a piece of cake. But here with so many people and I am just a plain old fashioned cook..... well.... let's face it, I am nervous. LOL It is was it is and I just have to tell myself.... do the best you can. LOL

Hope you all have a great day and enjoy all the fixings.

Hugs
Vel

PS: Welcome to our new friend, Mary-RN. It will be fun to get to know each other.
HUGS, đź’• Vel

Good morning all! Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you all for the warm welcome to the community...I'm excited to get to know you all and explore this quilting board.

Mary: I enjoyed the versatility a nursing degree offered. I started my nursing career working telemetry and ICU at Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay. Oregon Department of Corrections opened a minimum security facility not far from my home, so I took a per diem position to check that out and then the state offered me a full time position, so I stayed in corrections for 10 years. I worked my way up through management and opened a new facility for women that also housed the intake center. Everyone incarcerated with the state (with the exception of those who received the death penalty who went immediately to death row at the penitentiary) came through our facility for processing and placement in other state prisons. That job wasa 24-7, 365 position and I really missed direct patient care, so I started looking for other opportunities. The non-profit Guided Dogs for the Blind had a site in Boring, Oregon and advertised for an RN. I wondered,"hmmm, what does an RN do at Guide Dogs for the Blind?" Students come to train with their new partners and have health issues. 25% of our students were diabetic and then their is the risk of injury just from blindness. I was able to take my dogs to work with me, which was amazing. I was there for almost 10 years until my husband retired and we moved to La Pine to our retirement home. I wasn't ready to retire yet, so I went into clinic management again, ending my career with St. Charles. So that's my long nursing story!

We do have a beautiful quilt store in La Pine. They had a job opening shortly after I retired and I almost put my application in, but my husband brought me back to my senses when he told me he would miss me when he was traveling if I had to work! :)

Does anyone here come to the quilt show in Sisters? It's pretty awesome. Our ham radio group supports the show.

Well, turkey is on the Traeger and I better get busy starting the rolls. They are predicting snow this afternoon! Enjoy your holiday.
Mary!

Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for!

My noodles are cooking, salads are made. I had to go to town yesterday and return my romaine--$8 worth! I purchased broccoli and made a broccoli, celery, apple, pecan, crasin salad rather than the romaine. We will be going over to DS2’s for dinner. It’s a long trip!!! It’s about 2 miles as the crow flies and 4on the roads.

Tina—you got to bed late! Know your goodies are all wonderful! Hope you got some rest before getting up and hitting it this morning.

Velda—I could never “carve” a turkey like on TV shows or the movies. Mine are plain ole cut up and piled on a platter! You will be great!!! You’re right—we do the best we can. If it tastes good, no one cares!

MaryRN—Great to see you again! You have had quite a nursing career! My DH was a blind services counselor when he first started in social work. It was rewarding work. How great that you have a local quilt shop! It would be tempting to work for fabric! I’d always owe them!

MaryZ—I have loads of noodles!!! Definitely enough for a large helping for you!

Pam, Mary… did someone say “black licorice”??? My favorite—all varieties!!! DD gave me a small bag of Allsorts for my birthday.

ShirleyMae—have a wonderful day!

Jana—Sarah knows where she’s loved! I agree with Mary, it’s a control situation.

Everyone have a lovely day!

Bon appétit!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
Mary Z, your yams sound yummy, I'll need that recipe please.
We ate a little later than usual, 1 oven just isn't enough to cook all I did, I even made pies and stuff yesterday and the ham was cooked on the grill outside. Everything was yummy and we all enjoyed visiting and eating. Nobody brings anything, I just do it all....Mom always did it all so I've never known any other way.
I hope you all had an extra special day.
My cleanup crew is in charge now. :)
Tina
