SUPPER CLUB - Wednesday, sept 26

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Sep 26, 2018 3:09 am

Good morning!

Brrr!! Fall has really hit here! Chilly mornings! We're going into low 70's for next three days, and then, just as we leave for camping, the rains will be here. Isn't that the way it always is?

Got a lot of laundry done yesterday - bedding, towels, and some clothes. Four more big loads await my attention today.

The cable guy came yesterday and it was as we suspected - vicki. We just couldn't fathom how she could do it! She hacked the communiction wires to our house. I'm sure she had no idea of the consequences of that action. The first week we were gone a crew came and installed new wires to the power pole that feeds both our houses. Anything new, she perceives as 'toxic' and a danger so she destroys it. I doubt she had any idea she was taking down our security cameras, too! Anyway, we called sheriff. Three deputies responded, talked to us for 45 minutes then went across the grass to Vicki's. Ten minutes later an ambulance rolled into our yard! And took Vicki off to the hospital. Deputy told us she readily admitted cutting the wires because she had sprinkled the grass there and the wire got wet so it needed to be cut. She also admitted beating up our garage door because it 'was on her property'. I guess to someone who hasn't been around Vicki for the past 3 years this seemed over the top crazy. We've become inured to how her mind works. anyway, we have no idea what happened after she went to the hospital. Her outside lights are on this morning, but perhaps they are timed or motion sensitive. Or perhaps, sadly, they sent her home last night. We did not call her kids. We let cops or hospital do that, hoping it would make a bigger impact on them than just another complaint from Bill & Mary.

JANA - Michael was right! We just didn't think cutting the wires was something Vicki could physically do. But we hadn't known that a crew had been out there while we were gone, installing the new wires. and they left a coil of wire on the ground, perhaps intending to come back later. Perhaps it was a sloppy install. If she comes back, she'll probably do it again. We warned the cable guy and also the cops that we expected a repeat. Cable guy put in a work order to have the cable buried until it reaches the pole. Your house is going to be so clean and organized and festive! Are all your wall hangings seasonal or general? Skinnies? How is Ethan today?

IRisH - ooh, furniture shopping? Is this for the chairs you mentioned before or something else? I would love new furniture for our downstairs family room. But - a new Bernina just came on the market and temptation is leading me that direction . . . did you get your carpet yet?

BECCA - you are so putting me to shame with your yard work! there will be nothing left for Mark and Denise to do when they arrive to do your yard! You are like Cindy who has a weekly housekeeper and cleans the day before she gets there. But have to admit, nothing would stir my stumps more to get things done than knowing someone else was coming to do it! lol! But around here, that will never happen. No volunteer gardeners or housekeepers in our world.

Tonite we have just enough leftover spaghetti for us two with a veggie yet to be named on the side. Tomorrow will be new food!

What aromas will be wafting from your kitchen tonite?

Good morning!

Mary - what excitement in your neck of the woods! ;) I hope that Vicki will get the help she needs for her safety. Michael was amazed that she would climb a pole, but then he learned the wire was on the ground. In California we had a neighbor that had a CB radio that he boosted the signal, illegally and we could receive his calls over our stereo speakers that were tyrned off. Another neighbor, a ham operator was also interferred with, so late one night, the ham operator took a safety pin and pushed it in the cable leading to the antenna on the roof. Solved that problem!

Not much here. Almost have the wall hanging quilted. Most of what I have been working on is seasonal stuff. The one that is almost finished is a Christnas one, from a Art to Heart book. Sarah and I started these about ten years ago while I was here visiting. Hers is still not done! It was the first time I did raw edge with a blanket stitch applique. Parts of the applique are so stiff. We used Steam a seam, regular, over the entire large area of some of the pieces, which some are three and four layers thick! Boy, I have learned better! Today I am working on three seasonal totes that are already cutout and fused with fleece. I just needed the magnetic snaps which I got yesterday.

Ethan is much better. He is going back to school this morning. The school district is changing the boundaries of the schools in the area which more than likeky will move Ethan from where he is now to another school a bit farther away. There is a chance that we will keep him at the school he is at now, by, moving his address of living to my house. The boundary change is Sarah's street, so we will see what the fistrict does for next year. What a pain!

Dinner, leftovers!

Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning :)
Mary, you sure have excitement at your house, sadly not good excitement. I hope they keep Vicki and you don't have to worry about her anymore.
Jana, your wall hangings sound wonderful, are you going to pay pictures? Please?
Mary, your temps sound perfect for me!
Our walk this morning was at almost 70*, it was getting petty warm on the return home. I've got a big pot of veggie beef soup on, Easton's favorite, it'll be lunch the rest of this week.
We had tamales last night and Spanish rice. I'm not sure what supper will be yet.
We're all trying to find Leah and paying she's ok. There's info over in the sew in section.

Good afternoon from a very mixed up, weather wise, SW. Pa...One minute it's sunny, the next it's pouring rain...Good day to stay put!

On a very sad note, I did read where our friend Leah has passed away...What a dear soul and one who will be missed.....

Mary, WOW, talk about excitement! But, maybe this is what was needed to get help for Vicki....So sad! I think I went a little crazy myself yesterday when I went to the furniture store...But, I did end up ordering a recliner and a swivel rocker and then did tell the guy, once they deliver, I'll probably look at the couch and have to get new.....Never ending....I was really only after 2 swivel rockers but when I sat in the recliner, I had to have it...It's a petite, made just for my behind and my feet actually rest on the floor...Every other recliner we've had I could never reach the floor, so I'm happy...Now, as soon as the carpet comes and I can get the dining room back in shape, then I can get the living room ready...I just might get my cleaning done before next summer, lol....(Of course I'm working on 2010's fall cleaning)......

Becca, you really are putting me to shame with all the outside work you've been doing....I just kind of peek out the window and see what needs to be done and then close the mini blinds....

Jana, I hate to hear about changing schools and like the address change...I was so lucky, up until my kids were in 6th grade, they went to our neighborhood school and were able to walk right though the yard, took about 5 minutes at the most...I hated when they then had to get on that big old bus and travel, although they thought it was great.....I always thought, the kids grew up too fast by going on that bus....

Yesterday's lunch was super, full of good food and lots of laughs...And I brought enough left overs for tonight's dinner...But, I did bake 2 loaves of banana/nut bread...Even though I'm not to eat nuts, I made sure I chopped them really fine but had to have them...House smells so good......Other than that, not much happening....

You all have a great day....

Happy eating.........

Hello everyone, just had a nice long post & when I sent it said Opps wrong user name!!! So this will be shorter.

Sad news about Lea but what I had suspected all along. We will miss her,the kitten stories too.So glad Lyn found the Brother.

We had a nice surprise visit from Wren Tallulah & DGD this morning & they had lunch too. They are such cuties & bring us much joy.Wren walks on her tippy toes a lot so she can go faster I think.

Maryz Theres still much to be done outside.Remember it’s been lacking all Summer. These bushes grow like crazy.I cut a couple to ground.
Glad they found out about Vicky.Just maybe she will get help I hope. And you can have peace again.Amazing she didn’t get hurt cutting the wires.

Tina I prefer yard work over house work.Just like my dear Mother & DD & DGD.Such a great job you & DB are doing with your dear Dad.That helps keep his mind occupied.
But what else would we expect from a sweet soul like you, always putting others first.

Jana Good for you finishing your UFOs but you are always busy making pretty things.
Do hope Ethan can stay in his school.

Must get hopping bec not much got finished before they got here. But I did get all bathrooms cleaned & floors cleaned. Now on to dust bunnies.
I have chicken Breast over bed of rice Waiting to cook. And will add me some greens. Becca
Irish I guess we were both typing at same time.Dont worry your yard is fine I’m sure.
You will enjoy your new recliner. We used to sell them That’s a ladies chair that you purchased.Made just for ladies.I used to have one.Mine now is still a smaller one bec I’m so short.Glad you had a fun day out.On the huts grind them in your blender & you won’t know they are there. Becca

Good afternoon! We cooled off here, too. It was only 62 when the Hooligans and I walked down to Ava’s awhile ago.

I was so sorry to hear about Lea’s passing. She will be missed. Cancer is such an evil, insidious disease.

Well, Mary—you certainly had some excitement. I can’t believe Vicki was nutso enough to cut into wires of any kind! It will be interesting to see if she is back home. They should have sent her for a full mental and physical evaluation that takes longer than an hour or so. The damage to your door and the cutting of the communications wires is over the top in my book… way past nuisance! If I got my hands on a new Bernina, I don’t know if I could keep my credit card in my purse!!! Good thing there are no machine stores within 150 miles of me!

Jana—quiet in the neighborhood is a very good thing! No fires or vandalism!!! I look forward to seeing your wall hangings. I used to have some Art to Heart books. I know what you mean about those older stiff appliqués. Good to hear Ethan is better! My DGD changed schools this year because she was being bullied last year in a larger school. The kids’ business is in the new district, but they were willing to rent a house and move if they had to do it. Fortunately, they didn’t. She’s doing much better this year and has friends from church and even in her neighborhood there with her.

Tina—now I’ll be craving tamales! We go eat with friends Friday at noon at El Publito’s, so maybe I’ll have a tamale.

Irish—you know, don’t you, that if you buy one new piece of furniture it makes the others look shabby and you end up buying more and more and more… Love the idea of a petite recliner for you! They no longer have neighborhood schools in town. They changed to attendance centers with only 2 or 3 grades, and they bus the kids all over town. It’s so different from when I lived there. I never rode a school bus. My DD got to ride a bus from her neighborhood school with no kitchen to another school that served the hot lunches. She loved it!!! Later, when we moved to Missouri she rode the bus all the time.

Becca—I weeded the other day… not a lot, but in front of the house. I would rather work outside than inside any day! I’d rather help work the cows than work in the yard, too.

Yesterday I completed the placemat tops, and today I hope to go make inroads to quilting on them. I’m still trying to think of quilt patterns.

Dinner tonight… Mary does not want to know what our protein of choice will be. I did make an insanely good banana bread earlier, and it’s had my name on a couple of pieces already. Does banana bread count as a fruit??? What about with nuts; I put pecans in it? I’ll find salad to go with, and maybe some spinach. I was going to fix rice, but with the banana bread I probably won’t add more carbs. We won’t starve!

Bon appétit!

Hello everyone, checking in late today.

Have been very busy with working in the yard, getting ready for Winter. We have still been hot here in the valley, today was 94, but it will soon start down. We only have about 3 weeks of Fall, then wham! it is Winter. But only for 3 months. Our spring starts about February.

The tilers finally came back to redo the shower floor. The first tiles that the designer picked turned out to be limestone, porous and easily stained. When the shower plumbing went in and the workmen tested the system, the first water on the floor stained it. So it had to be pulled out and redone, only this time with porcelain. But it was hard getting the tilers to come back after they thought the job was finished. Today the glass shower doors finally went on and the floor got sealed. So...DH can finally use his own shower by the end of the week. And that is it for renovations...we are done!

Leaving tomorrow for one of our camping runs up the hill to Kings Canyon. It will be in the 50's up there, so we are running out of time for end of the season camping. Rain is predicted (in the mountains) by the time we get back on Monday. When we get back we will prep the RV for winter storage. Only got to use it twice this summer due to the renovation and other obligations.

Irish....My sister lives in a "Destination Trailer" on her son's property and it is a lovely unit. Just Google destinations trailers.
He did build her a separate little sewing studio next to it. She is very happy there and the couch pulls out for me to sleep on and is comfortable.

I, too, was sad about Lea, but I think we all knew her time was limited. I sure hope she was not alone and went peacefully. Hope her kitties find good homes.

As far as quilting, I am finally at a point where I am getting to the end of my list of family and friends to make quilts for. So I am pulling out scraps and pre-cuts that I have stockpiled for donation quilts. I also have bought some free motion templates and am going to try to do my own quilting on the donation quilts. Also, another Featherweight Maintenance class to teach is coming up, as well as I am teaching a beginning English Paper Piecing (EPP)class Oct. 11 and 17. Then I was asked to teach the EPP class at another guild about an hour away. This is turning into a regular thing! Once a teacher, always a teacher, just the subject changes!

Hope you all are enjoying the changing weather. I will be so glad to get rid of the heat.

DH says dinner is simple, chicken burritos, and salad for our last night at home.

Take care and prayers for those in need.

**Linda
