SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 28
Good morning,
I keep wanting to type Sept for the date. I wonder what I'll be typing when it actually IS sept! It's starting to feel like fall here. The air changed on Sunday. Very noticable. Distant traffic sounds different and I can hear train whistles from 5 miles away that we can't hear in the summer.
I'm almost done with my Great Magazine Cleanout! Yay! Maybe today but tomorrow for sure. In between times, I do a little bit of sewing - small projects. Since we're leaving soon on a fairly long trip, I'm not looking to start any large projects and then have to leave them half-finished.
PAM - make sure your mom gets to see all the beautiful blocks you'll get back!
JANA - I did know that cake flour was different (thought I don't usually buy it). But is pastry flour different from all-purpose flour? Or are they the same?
VELDA - will you be going to the quiltfest this year? I doubt we'll make it. We get home Oct 5 from our annual week at the ocean. There is a lot to do to unpack (we'll have 2 weeks in Utah in Sept, too) and then clean and repack to get ready for 3 months away. We have to get our house and yard ready to leave, please see all the family and friends one last time. And it's almost 3,000 miles for us. If weather permits, we might swing through CO to see family. But if there's even a HINT of snow, it's straight down I-5 and turn left for us!
CHICKIE - I know you've been busy wrapping up the last of your Henry Glass Challenge sewing and I believe you have your dental appt in Joplin today. We'll talk to you tomorrow maybe!
Supper - chicken alfredo over linguine. I have some squash that someone gave me - they are like little patty pans but bigger and white. I don't know what kind they are. anyone here? I'm trying to think how to cook them since DH doesn't really care for squash. Maybe I'll mash them up, make a pie, and tell him it's pumpkin?

Good morning!
Mary - yes, pastry flour is different from AP. They are close in the numbers - protein - AP is about 12 grams and pastry is about 10 grams. Sarah hunted up those numbers, she is good at that.
Finishing up UFO's - in doing so, I have emptied a couple of drawers and my plastic boxes. That's a good thing. In messing up the Batt Cave, I found a yard of fabric - the license plates from a Row by Row, so will turn it into a tote bag. Time to get things done and caught up! New mantra - finish UFO's!
Mary - we have turned cold. Snow fell up in Idaho, about 3 bours north of me and we were at 50 last night. Should be great weather for your trip here in a couple of weeks. Not too hot, we are only mid 70's, even St. George has cooled to that as well.
Dinner - chili over rice sounds good. Maybe even a bit of cornbread.
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon, sunny here.Hoping it’s not as hot as yesterday. It was rough after having cooler temps.
Maryz Those squash like that will taste more like a pumpkin.I would try that or roasting them. You & Jana are really finishing those UFOs .I wouldn’t want to leave a big project hanging either.I like to get things done once I start.
Jana You are on a roll with all your finished UFOs plus the totes you made.Wish we had cooler weather so I can make a pot of soup.Sounds great but it’s too hot.Chili also sounds good especially the cornbread.
I got a big job completed this morning. Moving all the furniture, doing the floors, rugs, down in basement. And chasing the dust bunnies. Its much cleaner now.DH used to keep it all neat & tidy but he’s beyond that now.Its his man cave. Our DGS made him a sign to hang on door & one DGD gave him a rug for in front of door that says Man cave.
I made peanut butter cookies too this morning .So he will be happy. We have leftovers.Will-add corn on cob ,sliced tomatoes. Becca
Have a great day to all.Smile along the way.Im still singing when I walk but have my bear bells ordered Maryz.lol

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 28
Good morning! I know I’ve been absent, it seems like forever, but life just gets crazy around here. DH’s birthday was Sunday, and two of the sons dropped in for a bit. He had lots of texts and calls wishing a great day. Yesterday his sister and brother came for lunch (and pretty much all day). I was on Choc and Ava duty, so it was a busy day for me, too. Sunday evening I submitted all my photos and narrative for my Henry Glass Desire to Inspire challenge. I’ll let you know when it goes online. Meagan (Ava’s mommy) helped me with the photography, and she really did a professional job. I hope the HG people like her work!
I still have some projects I want to make before I finish with my Halloween sewing. I have Choc and Ava duty today and go for my dental work tomorrow. I hope I’m at the end of the dental work until my next 6-month cleaning.
Jana—thanks for the cake/pastry flour lesson. I had no idea. How did your churros come out? Yummy, I’m sure! I used to make cream puffs. Haven’t in ages. Hummmm…. Guess I should wait until the birthday cake and banana bread are gone before making more baked goods. I think I got some of that license plate fabric for a tote… mine’s still not made, either!
Mary—I really should work on my magazines, too. I’d love fall feel! We are back to the 90s and so miserable! At least we have some wind now, but it’s still nasty hot! All your traveling makes me dizzy! I think your “pumpkin” pie sounds perfect! It might be kind of pale if your squash is white. I’d probably bake them with butter and brown sugar in the center. (No calories there!) When in doubt, I look on line for recipe ideas. I do think the pie or bread or cookies (with lemon glaze) sounds good! They always dice up in soup or chili, too.
Dinner here—leftovers… there’s fried chicken from yesterday’s lunch or a hamburger for DH. I’ll fix some zucchini zoodles and maybe marinara sauce with meatballs. There’s birthday cake for afters.
Bon appétit!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 28
Late morning all:
Well, things have turned a little sour. The new shower floor is not turning out as expected. The small tiles looks wet and most of them are darker around the drain. DH did some research and best guess is that there is water accumulating under the tiles and keeping them wet. This could lead to mold everywhere, including up the walls. DH is so upset, he is making himself sick (IBS). Now comes the hard work of getting the contractor or tiler back to see what to do. We have the sneaking suspicion that the whole floor will have to be ripped out and redone.
It is so nice and cool here in the mornings. Still climbing to the mid 90's by mid afternoon, but it doesn't stay there long. I still can't get outside much because of the pulled hamstring, but I did get my bathtub scrubbed and the kitchen stove cleaned up. Also did the damp mopping of the floors to get the reno dust up.
In the early mornings we "take our coffee in the solarium" and watch two hummingbirds fight it out over the feeder in the backyard. DH put up a second feeder close to the sun room window and we get a closer look at the two birds. Female and male black-chinned hummers. We also have one feeder and two other hummers in the front yard. DH also moved that one closer to the kitchen nook window and we are enjoying that one too. Yesterday we watched a baby mocking bird take a bath in the birdbath.
I am letting DH stew over the shower tile problem because my mind is all occupied with how to teach EPP (English Paper Piecing). The local quilt shop has asked me to teach a beginning class, so I am gathering lists of what I need, instructions, resources and a project. I am also starting the project so that I will have a samples. It will be interesting to see how many are interested. also, yesterday one of the guild officers picked up the sewing things I was storing, after helping empty out one of our deceased guild member's sewing room. We have now found all the pieces to the serger, Janome and 221. All this stuff will be sold to the guild members (we have 104) on Sept. 9. Such a generous family to donate her things to us.
We are leaving for a week in Lake Tahoe on Sept 7. We are going in the car first to check out the RV camping facilities available there, as well as along the mountains on the way. If they meet DH's specifications, we will return with the RV at later dates. He says he has to have trees when he camps, and does not want to be on top of each other.
Mary, what kind of campground do you spend your winter at in TX?
Well, happy week to you all, hope you get lots done, get and give lots of hugs to family and prayers to all those in need. Tonight is left over lasagna. I like it better the second day.

Wow. Such busy people, here. Linda, you inspire me. Maybe it's time for a bathtub scrub at my house.
Ya win some, ya lose some. DB has blood clots in both calves and in his left lung. He is back in a regular room for three days of anticoagulation, and then he hopefully goes back to MRU. I don't know what is the significance of three days, unless they are starting c o umadin.

I don't know what is for supper. I have a dentist appt. Work, today, was busy. It won't settle down anytime soon. My coworker is out on baby leave. She has a busy job.
