SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 14
Good morning,
We never cracked 80 yesterday as was predicted. Nice! Made sitting out on the restaurant patio for dinner very pleasant. Today we have 89 in the forecast, but we have a lot of haze from fires in B.C. so that is keeping the temps down a bit. Over 100 fires in B.C. right and that is only counting the ones over 2,000 acres.
Today will be Scottie & I meeting Lori & Duchess for our daily early morning walk, sewing, and then massage! My massage therapist has a rental only about 3/4 mile from our house. He needed some gravel spread so Bill drove the tractor up, spread it, which took about 1-1/2 hours, and I am getting 3 free massages out of the deal! Pretty sweet deal if you ask me!
As for sewing, I've been working on a gift for Secret Santa. It's a new pattern to me, so this was just to be test before I made a good one, but it's turning out so well that this may just be it! I'm using batiks, but it would be nice in 30's, CW, Florals, any holiday, and more! My new go-to tote pattern. I think I received this pattern from my own SS a couple years ago.
BECCA - running errands must be difficult for you and your DH both. He has to take oxygen with him, doesn't he? and getting in/out of the car? My DB, Jim, didn't use oxygen, but it was a struggle getting him in and out of vehicles. Pick-ups were much easier for him than the cars.
CHICKIE - I didn't know how you could cram even more into your days, but you are managing! Of course, I've heard no talk of cleaning rentals since the last one. You are doing an amazing job with your challenge fabrics! When you are all done, you need to post some photos. Hugs to your Hooligans! (all FOUR of then!)
CAROLE with an E - I'm sorry Ken's still not 100%. Is it possible this is a whole different problem? I guess I hadn't realized it has been so stormy down your way. Thank goodness you had no damage. I feel for your friends and the other residents. Bill's cousin just bought a house in Mesa. We're not sure if he's moving for good, or just keeping it for winter. I like my winter house to be on wheels so I can take it anywhere I want.
PAM - your poor brother! I, too, hope he's seeing a different doctor and preferably a whole different hospital! Saying a prayer for him.
We still have some of that old pork roast left so tonite will be BBQ pork sandwiches, I think. With a salad. I need to stop and pick up some buns while I'm out for my massage.
What's for supper at your house?

Morning everyone. This is the first morning the sun wasn't orange and the temp has dropped below 100 (96). So we both went walking early. When we got home the tilers were already there waiting for us. They have been late every other day so we thought we were safe leaving the house.
Sending hugs and prayers to you MaryZ for Bill and the the loss of his brother. Prayers to the others of you dealing with DH's and siblings illnesses. I feel blessed to still have 4 younger, healthy siblings and be healthy myself. Only issue is that I am losing my older quilting friends one by one.
Not much going on, otherwise. DH is going crazy living out of boxes in my bathroom while his is under construction. He does not adapt to change well, likes his own space and routine. Claims he can't find anything right now. And it has been too hot for him to work outside so he is like a caged lion. It will be so nice when things are back to normal, he is not easy to live with right now.
Had to stop working on refurbishing the Featherweights because the countertop man who is fabricating the bathroom counter is also making a top for the counter in the sun room...my workspace. It is coming this week to be installed so I had to clean up all my tools and little parts. So it will be back to just sewing. I have been working on a donation quilt using one of the many layer cakes I have collected. It is an easy star block and I have almost all 16 blocks made. Now to just sash and border it. I also have to pack for the 4 day retreat I am going to starting Monday. So enough to keep me busy.
Well, hope all your days are blessed with family and friends. Take care,
**Linda

Good morning
Today school started so I'm down to just watching Preston, I will have Easton on Fridays. Preston is kinda having a hard time being by himself but hopefully he'll adapt.
Tonight is my night to feed Dad so I'm making tacos, quick and easy.

Hello everyone,sunny & 85 today.
Got laundry done & Dr visit over.Ortho about my hand.As far as my hand it will heal & get better. There is osteoarthritis in my thumb & on my wrist. But I told him it had never hurt me before.Stress & trauma of bite & the way he bruised my wrist caused it all to come to surface. He said it will continue to heal.I could do all the movements he asked me to do.He told me to carry a stick with knife on end.lol
Maryz We have an SUV.Any vehicle is hard for him, just getting in & out wears him out.Yes the oxygen goes with him 24/7.Errands are very hard & takes longer when he’s along.Life is whatever needs doing.
Glad you had a nice evening. With my DSIL It was 3 or 4 wks before the memorial.
Linda Remodels are a mess anyway you do it.Hope it’s finished soon for everyone.
Tina You typed same time as me.Hope all’s well with your family. They learn to adapt without siblings.
Pam Sure hope your Brother can get a good Dr t help him.Prayers for him.
DS is working in shop today so it’s company for us.
Forgot to mention our visitor yesterday. We were both at kitchen sink fixing us a bite & When I looked up on our bank there was the biggest bear I have ever seen.It had to be the granddaddy of them all.He was walking toward woods .Just glad I was inside.
Just wish our neighbors would stop putting out food, bird feeders & feed too.
We are having chicken pie, cole slaw, corn on cob. I stopped at the Farm & stocked up.

Good morning! I was up and hitting the road this morning—Hooligans and I walked to take care of Choc before DH was awake. Came home and did yoga practice followed by a shower. Now I’ve paid bills and am here. I’ll be hitting my sewing room again and taking care of Ava and Choc.
Our big storms predicted for last night petered out into 0.1” of rain. We are overcast today, and I really hope Mother Nature delivers some real moisture today! I’d love to do some pictures of my projects when I finish, but I haven’t figured out the posting procedures. Maybe I’ll take time to do it after the deadline on my completion.
And… I’m back! DH came home for brunch—eggs for him, and egg foo yung for me with zoodles (no gravy, just soy sauce and Sriracha). Have I mentioned I love veggies, and I have a LOT of veggies for me to eat. After brunch, time for another walkabout… Ava first, then back to Choc. Since it might rain (key word: might), I put Choc inside after leaving her out this morning. We are 75 degrees which should be nice, but at 85% humidity, I was a wet rag when I returned. I was clipping along at 3.6 mph and got in 2 full miles.
I also put a pot of veggies to cook on the slow cooker setting for my rice cooker—zucchini, onion, carrots, okra, tomatoes, a jalapeno. Plus I added some lentils and mung beans for some protein and more fiber. I just had a tiny taste, and I’m going to love dinner (and perhaps an afternoon snack)!
Oh… rentals. No cleaning! DH gave the 3 BR 2 BA one to his middle son who turned around and gave it to his son (DH’s grandson). They are now responsible. Who-hoo!!! We may be getting slowly out of this business!
Linda—of course the workmen were finally on time! I went walking this morning in yoga clothes and messy hair and no make up. Of course, I saw DS1 (he was checking cows), brother-in-law from across the road , and DGS leaving for work. Never fails! I believe that’s one of Murphy’s Laws or at least a corollary. You are as fast at sewing as MaryZ! Glad you got some fresh air and cooler time.
Tina—Tacos are yummy. Sounds like you are almost empty nesting! Preston will step up to be the little man in a few days.
Becca—a bear! Oh, my!!! That’s too much excitement! I see deer as I walk, and I’ve occasionally seen a coyote, but bears are pretty uncommon around here. There have been sightings in Kansas, but only a few. My little truck sits higher than a regular car or small truck. It was helpful for getting DH in and out when he was semi-paralyzed. I could lift him and shove the wheelchair out of the way and “stuff” him in without as much difficulty as a car. Your dinner sounds excellent, too! I had a toy wooden baseball bat I walked with at one time. A golf putter is also an nice walking “stick” (weapon).
Now… into the sewing room! I quilted a couple of candle mats yesterday using a spiderweb design around the circular shape. The thread I used is neon and glows under black light. This is a fun project!
Bon appétit!

Good afternoon!
Just got home from a traipse around this side of the valley. Made several stops and I am home now in time for the afternoon webinar with El. Ouilter7 - Carol - will be on this show this afternoon with her quilt that we are doing. She set it in a whole different setting that the book shows and it is fabulous! She posted a picture of this quilt over in the Fabulous Forty thread in the Swaps section. You should go and see it.
Dinner is turkey enchiladas with Hatch chiles and Hatch chile sauce.
Mary - I am so sorry for your loss and understand the sad time. When we leave this earth, there is always a loved one waiting to help us on our journey. Wonderful to know that we are never alone.
Becca - A BEAR! they can bevery mean critters - happy he was walking away!
Chickie - oh HAPPY DANCE - no more rentals! You are busy enough!
Tina - kiddos will be back in school shortly here too - the only one home will be Baden - he turns three in February. He is happy just playing alone and not having the older kids bothering him.
Linda - you just never can tell about contractors! My kids and niece are heading to Yosemite in a few weeks. Glad to see that the Valley floor is open again. They use Big Oak Flat road to go in and out. Easier coming from the Bay Area.
Got to scoot, class is starting!
Enjoy,
Jana

Against Mom and my better judgement, DB is at the same hospital and the same doctor. I was wrong, yesterday. They went in the neck and did rods and fusion there, AND they went back in the lower back and messed around in there, more. He has a little more movement on the left leg. He can make the toes go side to side pretty well. He has a little movement in his upper leg, where there was none, yesterday. He now has trace movement in his right leg, too. It is progress, but still scary. This man was walking a week ago. He is in a hopeful mood, because he can't fathom the alternative.
I over share on facebook, and the family has told me not to. So you guys and at work get my true feelings.
I made Dan a tomato sandwich, and me some slices. Let me tell you about this tomato. It is huge and lopsided, with the stripes of a good heirloom. I had to trim a little off, but what is left is. meaty and sweet. I love the sweetness and texture of heirlooms. At the veggie stand they had a sign by the heirlooms. They may be ugly, but they are good. I agree. In addition, we are sharing an avocado. I also dressed some mixed greens with the thai peanut sauce. I topped them with a few peanuts, to bring the theme home. I did a spoon of cottage cheese on my plate, as well.
