May 1 devotion

1 Kings 18:16-39

Expectant Prayer

Moses had warned the people that "God is a consuming fire, a jealous God" Deut 4:24. So the way God answered Elijah's prayer was perfectly in character. God doesn't reveal all of His glory because He knows we coun=ldng handle it. That's why when God makes His presence known, even through messengers, His first words often are "Don't be afraid". But when it came to a showdown with Baal worshipers, kGod allowed His Actions to announce. "Be afraid! God and His consuming fire are here!"

Wehn you pray, do you expect God to do something because you know what He is able to do? Or do you half expect to be disappointed because you doubt that God could do something so great for yours? If you answered yes to the last question, ask God to give you a heart filled with faith and expectancy of the great things He will do in response to your prayers.

Hugs and prayers
Izzy

"Be afraid! God and His consuming fire are here!"

Boy that would stop someone right in their tracks.

I can't imagine being told to Be afraid when it comes to God.

Izzy, prayers for you and your family.

I try to always trust God. Like I was taught in Sunday School God always answers prayers whether it is yes or no. I accept God's answer and know he is looking out for me. I have faith in God!!

Izzy keeping your family in my prayers.

Many many years ago, I was watching an old episode of M*A*S*H...

one of the characters was a wounded soldier who thought he was God...
Radar asked him why when he would pray to Him he never got an answer.

The Soldier said "Sometimes the answer is No." I think of that often when I pray. So when I pray, and I ask God for something, I am always aware that His answer might be NO, but I am always aware that even though the answer could be NO, that there is something better than I could ever dream of coming instead of what I want at that moment.

I do not believe that God will always give me what I want, but I believe that He always hears me and will grant me what I need, if it is only the strength and peace to handle what troubles me.

God Bless you all

Izzy, thank you for these devotions. They mean so much to me when I get a chance to read them. They seem to fit my needs for that day too.

Prayers for your father and mother too. It is so hard to get old and start to face failing health for ourselves or our loved ones. May God bring them both peace and comfort in the days ahead. And may God be with you too as you try to help them in their time of need.

Prayers and blessings for all your family. You are always so busy so means so much that you take time for devotions for all of us too. Thank you. Hug Lil Wm for me. My DGKs are growing up way too fast and some are so far away.

Special prayers for your husband as he goes on his mission trip. I know it means so much to him and the group he is traveling with. May he reach lots of folks with the gospel.

Prayers for you too as you hold down the fort at home. It won't be easy but I know you will be ok. God is watching over you.

Hugs and love across the miles, Shirley Mae
