Get Personal with God

After years of struggle to get to the promised land, the nation of Israel fell away from the Lord who had led them there. Why? Because they did not maintain their own personal connection to Him. Relying on the faith of their fathers wasn't enough to sustain them and they turned to other gods.
The same principle holds true for us. We cannot rely on other peoples faith, or even our own past experiences with God, to sustain our current relationship with Him. We must maintain a living, dynamic, active relationship with Him through our prayer lives and Scripture reading in order to know Him at an intimate level.

Prayer is about so much more than just making requests or getting advice. It is our avenue to knowing and being known by the God of the universe. Although He already knows us completely, we don't have any way of experiencing that reality if we do not connect with Him in a personal way.
