Psalm 149
As has been expressed so frequently, God called Abraham and set apart the children of Israel as His chosen people, not for their blessings and benefit but to serve Him and live to the praise of His glory. Among all the peoples of the earth, they were to enjoy a special relationship with Him; they would recognize God as their Maker and would acknowledge Him as their King and absolute authority. This would be a relationship that would bless them, elicit songs of joy and response in worship. Psalm 102:18 refers to a "generation to come; that a people yet to be created may praise the LORD." I believe this is a reference to those who are Christians. Not only the historic tribes of Israel but those who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ become the people of God. The Lord takes pleasure in His people who worship and praise Him; He takes those who are afflicted by sin and restores them to become those who are beautiful and purified in His sight through the salvation that He has provided.
It is an honor to be among those who know the Lord and are counted as His people. Let us never forget that it is for the purpose of exulting in God's glory, worshipping Him in song and praising His name.
