SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Jan 11th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Jan 11, 2018 3:34 am

Good morning!

We've got wind and rain today. And no place to go so I think we'll be able to stay home all day long. We got Al to his appointment yesterday - a conference to give him test results and an update on where all the doctors are after 3 months of appointments and tests. And the doc said, "you DID get a lung scan, didn't you?" Uh, no. He forgot to order it!! Or his staff did! Dr said we can't fit you in today so we'll do it tomorrow. Al told him he wasn't traveling another 2-1/2 hours (one way) just for a scan. Doc said OK, they'd do it day of surgery as he only wanted it so anesthesiologist will know Al's lung history (big surgery 6 years ago), and he expects another doctor will call Al in a few days to set up this surgery. This is one of the premier cancer care medial facilities in the west. All of these five tests they've been doing could have been done in one day but they spread them and the follow-up appointments out over 3 months! Of course, as family we're concerned about what the cancer is doing in all this time besides making itself at home in Al's kidney, bladder, and prostate. But maybe we're at the end of this stage and will be moving forward soon. Forgive my blathering. It's what I do. and I'm rather good at it, don't you think??

CHICKIE - haha! I do indeed know the "Yard of the Year" across your road. I can see where they may be unhappy to have cattle, even cute little ones like yours, parading through. But hopefully you're back in good grace with them now. A few days ago you mentioned having "on't know" for supper. Here, that means broccoli!! lol! Enough broccoli and Bill stopped requesting "on't know"!

BECCA - $7500!! Ouch!! I sure hope it's repairable!! you said you did some cooking and floor mopping and THEN you were going to start on some uglies when you got home from shopping. Those ARE uglies, aren't they?? At least in this house they are! lol! I have been doing one load of wash every night when we get home from Seattle. I wiped down the bathroom counter while brushing my teeth. And I do get the coffeemaker rinsed out every morning. That's all the uglies I've gotten done this week. It's been great!!

JANA - yes, that HGTV waterfront house is about 5 miles from me. I keep meaning to tell you all that, but keep forgetting. It's a sort of rural area and practically next door to one of our favorite waterfront Italian restaurants, Mossimo's. (bit of local lore: Mossimo's used to be called Pearl's and was owned for 50 years by Pearl, a shirttail relative). I would love for one of you to win it and become one of my neighbors!! And hey, Jana, I bet all those holiday skinnies you have contain at least one Valentine pattern. And deadline for my Valentine swap is looming. So far only 9 people have signed up so not a ton of blocks to make. I thought I'd mention it before I send The Twistinator over. And now you have to go over to the swap to see just what that means!

BECKY - that had to have been nice - a hearty home-cooked meal all ready when you got home! I love having the prep work done ahead of time! Have you ever put a meatloaf in the crockpot? I set it up on thick slices of onion and sometimes tuck potatoes and carrots around it like a roast.

IRISH - your test message came through. Wonder where your others went. Space must be full of all the lost posts, texts, e-mails, etc! Any more thought to a car? Here's one thought I had when I suddenly found myself on my own and needed a new car - I had to rely on myself to get to work, get the kids to practices, school, etc. That's why I went with 4WD. And 6 months later we had an unusual 13-inch snowfall and I was the only one who made it to work for night shift (and, more importantly, home again!). Front wheel drive is also a good idea. Just sayin' . . . . And red is a snazzy color for a snazzy lady!!

TINA - How's it going? We're closing in on the end of the week and I know there was a lot going on for you this week!

We are having Mexican tonite. Either tacos here at home or at Monctuzuma's Mexican restaurant. We've had 2 different sets of friends come by to let Scottie out for a piddle on the days we've had to go to Seattle. We told them we'd buy a round of margaritas as payment and 4 sets of eyes lit up. So tonite might be the night for that.

What is lighting up your eyes tonite? Could it be the thought of Valentine blocks??? If so, hurry!! sign-ups close next Monday!

Good morning from the blustery Kansas prairie! It was 53 when I went out to feed. Wind was from the south and blowing hard. In the 20 or so minutes it took me to feed Pocket Lint and Blackie plus Annie and Blondie, the wind had turned brutally out of the north, and the temperature plummeted to 37 with a wind chill of 27! Tonight’s low is to be 14.

Mary—it’s o.k. to blather. As a nurse, I know you are frustrated to no end. I knew you would know about “Yard of the Year”, and it’s ever fancier each season. Once the big cows got out and ran through… after rains. Their hooves left craters!!! We invite them to family breakfasts—he is DH’s late wife’s brother, so still DH’s BIL. Their grandson loves my biscuits and chocolate chip cookies, so I keep him happy, too.

Oh… very good! When I get the “on’t know” response… I will make something I like and he endures… I’m liking that idea… Mexican food, Italian food, lots of chicken, tomatoes, salads, beans, quinoa, VEGGIES… yes, maybe this will work.

I’ve had to sweep the floor every day, but what it really needs is a good mopping and polishing. It’s not going to happen until after the rain we may be getting. We had 100% last night, and all we had were a few misty dots on the windshield when I went to take care of Choc and Maggie.

That house in Gig Harbor would be such a neat place! Maybe I should enter… Fun info about Pearl and her restaurant!

Irish—hope you get to post today. My computer has updated about every day. My next vehicle will be 4WD or at least AWD. My ’73 VW Beetle was the best car I ever had for snow. I was one of 4 out of 51 secretaries who made it to work after a 12” snow, and I picked up one of the 4 and brought her in with me. I drove 10 miles, too. The “local” ones didn’t get there. Red is my favorite! It’s hard for me to look at any other color.

Becky--you are teaching your DGD well! How nice to come home to ready or almost ready dinner! My DD was wonderful when she was in junior high and high school to cook for us. DH even brought out of town clients home to dinner that she had cooked when she was in junior high school.

Becca--hope you get your heat pump repaired at a cost that does not break the bank!

I saw in AARP magazine that a lady had made a second career as a dog walker and was making 40K a year! She had 5 employees and an income of 165K! My second career as a dog walker is not so lucrative. I get a gift certificate to the meat market once a year from Ava’s mom. The rest is gratis. Where did I go wrong??? That said, I just have Ava today, but back to all three dogs tomorrow. It will be COLD!

Dinner tonight… I’m not sure WHERE… maybe Mexican! DS2 invited DH to see Star Wars tonight. DDIL and I are tagging along and going to see Jumanji. We’re going to dinner first. Dinner pickin’s are pretty slim in town, so it will probably be Mexican. That’s just fine with me!

Bon appétit!

Good late morning from a sunny, spring like day in SW. Pa...This, I'm afraid might be the last warm day so, hopefully we will take advantage of it.....

Mary, You have every right to blather if you want too..It's very hard not to get upset with doctors and what they do and not do...And, I often think, if it was one of their family members, would they be so lax....
I'm waiting for Nick to give me a call, hopefully to tell me he's up...This is his last day with us and we're going to make the best of it, I hope...I did tell him we'd do breakfast/lunch/brunch, some shopping (growing kid needs jeans) and then we'd look at cars...He and Terry will be leaving for N.C. as soon as Terry gets home from work....House still hasn't sold in N.C. but he does have someone living there so he doesn't have to worry about it being empty...Sure going to miss my buddy.....

Chickie, I had a friend who had a Beetle and we went every where in that car...And at one point, the floor boards had pretty much rotted out and while riding, if it rained, you practically had to keep your feet in your lap..But, we sure had fun....Terry is a Subaru guy and I do like the Forester but just not sure...1st, have to make sure it would fit in the garage, lol....I've never had a red car but do like the green in the Subaru....Gives me a headache just thinking about it, lol....

Becca, Oh my, hate to hear your heating news...Sure hoping you can get things taken care of at a much, much lower price and quickly...Also, hope you're enjoying this spring like weather before the next winter blast comes along....

I think my computer woes are resolved....Stephan and Nick had given me a new PC for Christmas and Nick hooked it up the other night..And, I think I probably had the wrong passwords or had done something stupid to send my messages into never, never land...But, all is good and we're zipping along....

While I'm waiting for my guy, I've done some laundry and cleaned up the kitchen and that's about it for the day...Yesterday's visit with Jim was so much better although he's still not up to par..He is getting to that point where, he'd rather just sit in the recliner or lay in bed so now, I'll start taking my hand work or a book with me when I visit.....

As for dinner, probably won't happen or maybe leftovers from our lunch (if we ever get going, lol).....

You all have a great day.....

Happy eating............

Good morning!

We are heading off to Home Deplorable, oops, Depot to look at the vanity I want for the Battroom. Michael wants to see the sink that comes with it and if the faucet we want will work. You see, the sink has to look nice, for me, and has to fit a large bucket for Michael. There are large design differences as well - mirror, light, etc. Men! LOL

Dinner will be sour cream chicken enchiladas.

Mary - we should all enter to win that house and turn it into a quilt retreat. You can blather on - you know what should be by your professional career, but from past experience doctors walk to their own drum and brush off the rest of us.

Irish - enjoy your time with Nick. Boys always need jeans! I love red cars - I would have a red Highlander now, but it was Michael's turn to choose the color. His last two trucks have been red. My coice.

Michael is wanting to leave,
Enjoy,
Jana

Hi everyone.
My days seem to be passing by without me knowing it, I can't keep track of when I'm here or not.
Mary, I really wish Dr's would get in a hurry, especially when it comes to cancer. Hugs to you all.
Jana, I hope you find something that will fit for you both.
Irish, I've never bought a new car, but red would be high on my list of colors.
Chickie, that's too cold. ...brrrrrrrr
I talked to frame about an hour ago and they only had a few things left to load out of the trailer, he's probably done by now and eating lunch. I couldn't help with the furniture moving. ... I've been messed up in my shoulders, neck and back and not sleeping much. I did get Dad set up online for his email account that he was locked out of and got his banking going so he can see what's what every day instead of going into the bank. He's decided to cancel all their phones and internet and tv and that'll save him a lot and then he'll see where he stands next month before he sees what he wants.
I had thoughts for supper earlier but I didn't write anything down and now I don't remember, it's very frustrating not being able to think, remember and being in a fog mossy all of the time. .... I'm aware of it. ..... I've had a headache for at least 2 weeks now. .. maybe that's not helping?

Good evening ladies.
Gosh, Mary, my thoughts were the same, that is an unbelievably long time to get him started on treatment. I think so, and I am not a nurse. Sure do hope he does well. Hugs to you.
You all do realize that Brytt didn't do anything but turn on the oven and take it from the fridge and put it in, right? HAHAHA....she is the one that doesn't like to cook.
Sure hope that you don't have to buy a new heat thingy Becca. That is expensive. Whew....
Chickie, it got really cold and rainy here too. I would save the floors till it is done.
Tina, hope things settle for you when you get the mobile home moved. You have had some horrible few weeks.
Irish, hang in there, sorry you are losing your helper. Hope you decide on a car. I must be in the minority, I don't care for the red car. I test drove one once, and in just a few blocks, told JR I just couldn't buy that color. He thought I was crazy. HAHA
Well, I broiled some chicken breasts tonight, and had mac and cheese and green beans. I best get going to finish up here tonight, I am tired, and I am sick of the weather! We got out at noon today, we have ice, but I don't think there is enough to cancel tomorrow, maybe school, since there are so many country roads with ice, but work probably won't, so I will get through tomorrow and then I have a four day weekend. Yay me....you all have a great evening....Becky
