Psalm 131
Pride is probably the most subtle and devious sin to which we are subjected. It is not as much manifested in actions as it is hidden away in our attitude. It is so prominent because it is the natural expression of the flesh or that self-centered life that is opposed to the Spirit. Every desire for acceptance and recognition is driven by pride. Concern for what people think about us is an indication of pride. It is detestable to God because it stands in opposition to His being the center of our life and the focus of our devotion. Glorifying Him would be our desire. God will not share His glory with another, and we are told in James 4:6, "God is opposed to the proud but gives grace to the humble." being proud not only subjects us to retribution from God; it cuts off the flow of His grace that we so desperately need. However, one who is proud has an air of self-sufficiency and usually would not even acknowledge the need for God's grace.
Be faithful in where God has placed you, serve Him faithfully, and with genuine humility rest in Him.
