SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Jan 5

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Jan 05, 2018 3:19 am

Good morning,

I'm home today! Except for a chiropractor appt which is only 1 mile away, I get to stay here. We got home about 4:30 yesterday. A long, 10-hour day. We were beat, but my DB had to be completely exhausted. After we dropped him off, he still had to drive another hour & 15 min to home plus stop to pick up an Rx on the way. His DD was with him. I loved spending the day with my neice. Albert saw 2 or 3 doctors, had labs drawn, got flu and pneumonia shots, and had some pulmonary testing done. We were so glad that we got so much done all in one trip. The results are that he does indeed have cancer in his kidney, is in good enough shape to withstand surgery (kidney removal), but needs one more cardiac test to make sure his heart is OK. He's 81, has COPD, and had rheumatic fever as a kid (which can affect the heart). So now we wait for this last test and then maybe get this show on the road. They've been messing around with tests and pre-treatment appointments for 3 months now.

TINA - I may have been in Seattle all day yesterday, but I sent many thoughts and prayers your way. I hope the service, hard as they are to get through, brought you some sort of comfort. Hugs!!

JANA - sending prayers for Kate as well. The good news is most babies born at 25-weeks make it. But it's not a journey you really want to travel with your baby if you can help it.

CHICKIE - so cold to stand out there bottle feeding calves! But where would they have been without their foster mom?? Veal!! So happy you are there for them. I hate the thought of them going back to their respective farms and being split up. I think they should stay with you. Perhaps payment for all you've done for them. You will have an entire herd of 500# pets!!

BECCA - I just don't think of NC as a frigid state! My brother in North Pole, Alaska is -6 right now and will be warming up to +6 today.

Supper - I'm groggy this morning. I got an extra hour of sleep and maybe I shouldn't. I can't think about food right now. But I did toss some burger into the sink to thaw. Maybe chili?

What are you thinking about for supper?

Good morning! We are going to be warmer today—nearing 40… maybe! The hooligans and I will be walking to see Ava, and my DD is coming this afternoon for a quick visit before she goes and sees Mom. I fed all four calves this morning. Pocket Lint and Blackie are becoming regulars now a couple of times a day.

Mary—that was a long day, but so much was accomplished! That was the best part of Mayo Clinic—you got all the tests done, results and doctor visits in one day. It was wearing, but it beat driving all that way numerous times. Here it’s one thing at a time and long waits between—totally inefficient! Oooooh! You said a 4-letter word about the calves… I am going to miss them when they go “home”. I really doubt I get to keep them. I would love a herd of pets, but I’m afraid it won’t happen… sigh!

Tina—I add my thoughts and prayers for you yesterday as well and in the coming days.

Becca—I can’t believe we are warmer than you are! What’s wrong with that picture! I’m glad your DH is doing better! A burrito sounds good to me, too! I’m needing to lose some pounds as always, but I think I could make a low fat one… hummmm… You are a wonderful caregiver! There are days I definitely feel like Mother Farm. But, they all seem to need me, so… When we had the house fire, I was still feeding my second baby, but she was weaned enough to pasture with Timi who was a year old then.

Irish—thinking of you! My aunt received my uncle’s comfort quilt yesterday and she’s taking it to him at the rehab center today. I hope it cheers him up. I love hearing that Jim is happy there, and I know that makes you happy, too!

I need to pay a bill or two, then I want to sew as much as I can today. I finished the top of a table topper yesterday, and I have another one cut out. I think I’ll do the tops then quilt them all at once when I set up my machine for free motion work.

Dinner tonight… leftovers from dinner last night. I have beef tips and baked potato, and DH has chicken fried steak. They had choice of French onion soup or salad last night, and was that onion soup ever delicious!!! I was the only one who ordered it. DH is not an onion person… Sometimes I make it just for me.

Bon appétit!

Good morning from sunny, SW. Pa. and that all I'm going to say, except, BRRRR

Mary, you really did have a long, productive day, didn't you? I can imagine how everyone would be tired, especially your DB....You know, we're all sending prayers for good results so they can "get that show on the road"...

Becca, Was thinking of you yesterday...Nick mentioned that he's anxious to get back to school because he knew it would be warmer down there...He said, normally, the snow comes but by the next day it's gone, not like up here, lol...He goes to Western Carolina, which is in Cullowhee...Am so happy to hear about the "heat wave" that's coming....Not too happy about hearing, DH might have had another stoke but hoping and praying, he's doing much better....

Chickie, I have visions of you in the meadow, surrounded by a herd of big pets...Of course, it's summer and the field is filled with wild flowers and you're right in the middle...You really have given those fur kids a good start along with lots and lots of love.....

Not much on my schedule for today except visit with Jim (when I get brave enough to go out)...Yesterday was interesting along with being a little scary...I got up to a chirping, dead battery in the living room and decided to fix it...Well, didn't exactly have the step stool opened right and I went flying..Hit my forehead on the doorway, thought I cracked my ribs on the handle of the stool and my right arm is completely black and blue from my elbow to my shoulder...You know when you do something stupid and after finding, no blood and hopefully nothing broken, you sit there and, well, lets just say, I probably need my mouth washed out with soap..
Nick had his interview yesterday so he had my car but there was no where I wanted to go..I talked Terry into coming here after work with a promise of dinner, to pick him up so I didn't have to go out...
But, still have the aches but not too bad, had to get out of bed, but we made it....Want to run the vacuum upstairs, take a hot shower and then visit with Jim....Kevin and Cindy stopped to see him last night and he was really telling them stories, even said he was going skiing...This weekend, Terry and Nick will be taking his recliner, another thing to make him room more his own....

As for my dinner, I gave last night's leftovers (chicken/biscuits and gravy) to Nick so not sure what I might have... Could be grilled cheese......

You all have a great day..........

Happy eating............

Eagle Update:
The nest at Berry College has a new egg and waiting for the 2nd...The eagles up here are just starting to get their nest ready...I remember other years, we did have eggs being laid during the coldest days and the parents would hardly leave the nest..There were pictures of nests that were completely covered with snow and you couldn't tell there was a parent sitting there....They are tough, tough, very devoted parents......

Morning everyone, cold or warm!

We actually had about 1/4 inch of rain in the last 2 days, but the low temps are in the 40's, so no snow in the mountains. But it has been wet enough to keep DH inside, which he hates. He gets very negative when he is confined inside. His new mantra is when I ask him what are his plans for the day: SSDD (same sh*t, different day). After 40 years I haven't been able to teach him to appreciate his blessings!! I will be so glad when his workshop is built, he is so much happier when he is busy.

Have been sending prayers to Tina, Becca and all of you with the need, I feel so blessed to have a healthy family at the moment. I have been isolating myself so that I stay well when I go to visit family in a week. I just hope they are well too. The two kinds of flu are rampant up here.

Wednesday I tried to go to the hair dresser for my appt and she was "running late"....again. So I rescheduled for Thursday after getting there and finding other people ahead of me waiting. Thursday I showed up and again she was "having car trouble", but this time I waited. I have been unhappy with the color she uses on my hair, I want it blonder and it always turns out too brown. So I got my sister's recipe and gave it to her to try. Well, 3 hours later I left looking pretty red blonde. She says that the mix interacted with my left over color and enhanced the red in my hair and that we just have to wait for it to grow out before the blonde will tone down. I am about ready to look for someone else who has less drama in their lives, but I have been with her for 20 years. How do you let go of someone in a small town?

Mary...You must spend hours sewing. I find that after about 2 hours of sewing or cutting, I get terrible pain high up in my back, just above my left scapula and turning my head makes it worse. I have to stretch and turn and go away for an hour to get it to stop. Any suggestions for how to handle this? I know it is caused by my head being down so long. I really would like to get more than 2 hours of sewing in.

Well, not much else happening here. Hope you all have a good weekend, stay well, stay warm and eat right. We are having left over chili with a salad tonight.

Oh, Irish, I can so relate!!! I think you and I have the record here for most falls! I take inventory of myself and see if I’m o.k. My first thought is “I hope nobody saw me.” My second thought is “If I’m really hurt, I hope somebody saw me.” I, too, need my mouth washed out. I have had it washed out with soap—NOT FUN!!! It happened when I was 3. We were living in the old apartment building, and the elevator was being worked on. I was pretty interested in the workmen while Mom was in the basement doing laundry. One of the guys above dropped a tool and said some words. I loved those words! How they echoed in the elevator shaft! They were glorious! I started yelling their words and wanted them to echo. Well, they echoed right to Mom who grabbed a bar of Ivory Soap and did the job. To this day, I will not/cannot use Ivory Soap. Even in the aisle at the store when I smell it, I get THAT nasty taste in my mouth! Mom still uses Ivory, and I experience that taste each time… almost 70 years later!!!

That said, Irish, I’ so glad you are still in one piece!!! DO BE CAREFUL!!! We always think there’s nothing we can’t do… THEN… oops!!! I know you give your kids headaches!!! Wait a day or two, and the color will really develop! I love grilled cheese! Sounds like Jim had a fun day yesterday! Good luck with Nick’s interview!

Linda—my DH hates being confined, too! He can drive me nuts!!! I guess that’s why I don’t color my hair any more. When I did it, I had no one but myself to blame, but I hate paying for bizarre effects. Hopefully yours will tone down in a few days and you’ll enjoy being a redhead! I don’t like having to wait for hours when I have a scheduled appointment either.

Our pond is frozen, and on sunny days it sings, burps, pops and cracks. It’s really quite interesting to stand on the deck and listen to its serenade.

Good afternoon ladies.
Hope all is well for you all, and that you are trying to stay warm.
We have some veggie soup in the crockpot, so all I need to do is throw some biscuits in the oven when I get home, and we will be set.
You all have a great weekend. Becky

Good evening!

IT Tech here in this house is having a bit of a upset - so I had to stay off my computer for awhile today. Plus we went shopping and I had to rearrange the freezer to make things fit and to make sure that Michael can easily find where things are put.

The big news of the day - is that Ethan lost his first tooth! It has been loose for a couple of days and today it just fell out, no help from anyone. He is a happy camper - now he says he can eat again - you know what matters to that little boy!

Enjoy!
Jana
