Psalm 120
There are two reasons implied as the cause of trouble we may be experiencing. One is the habitual misuse of the tongue in lying and propagating deceit, and the other is not being careful and circumspect about those with whom we associate. Both will bring misery and defeat to our lives. But we have the beautiful promise of assurance that the Lord hears us and answers us when we confess our need and turn to Him for help and strength.
The earlier verses could be interpreted as a cry for deliverance because one has been the victim of deceit and the lies of others. It is not uncommon to be the subject of gossip. I have found that wounds from lies and deceit of others penetrate like "sharp arrows of the warrior" v4 deep within my heart and are among the hardest to get over; it is necessary to turn to the Lord to heal and cleanse our soul from bitterness.
Another area in which we need the wisdom and help of the Lord is in our association with others and the company we keep. I can remember being cautioned by my parents to be discerning in the friends I hung out with. It is so easy to follow the crowd and get in with those whose attitudes are rebellious and activities are morally questionable.
Hugs and Prayers.
