SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Dec 15th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Dec 15, 2017 4:09 am

Good morning!

Only 142 hours until we start gaining daylight! Yay!!! About 0800 on Dec 21st. What are you going to do with that extra minute of light that day??

Yesterday I sewed a few hours, worked in the yard a few hours, and then we went to Elma, a very tiny town out towards the ocean where the Warm Co has its btting factory. We picked up our 40-yd bolt and then had about 1-1/2 hrs to kill before meeting sister and BIL for dinner. Well, across the street from the restaurant was the variety store. We thought we'd kill some time in there. Walked in and it was HUGE inside! and half of that was fabric!!! And a whole bunch of it was on sale for $5/yd! I was running up and down the long aisles, eyes wide, fondling the goods, and grabbing bolts! I got Christmas, Civil War, evergreen print for albert's quilt, a backing, and more. I couldn't believe my luck! I had no idea it was there! then we spent a very pleasant hour with family before heading home - 80 miles, but most of it a pretty drive, albeit in the dark.

Today - we have nothing on our calendar. In fact, our entire weekend is a blank slate. So I think I'll just work on Albert's quilt. There is more yard work to do but the rains have returned which makes it really hard to rake those big maple leaves.

CHICKIE - you know, the cat may have been away yesterday, but with technology, you always go with me! I saw you sneak those banned cakes in last night. Tsk tsk!

BECCA - glad your hubby is on the mend, but it was distressing that, with his COPD, he refused to see the doctor when he was suffering from congestion. A simple cold can turn into pneumonia in a few hours when one is respitorily compromised like he is. And pneumonia kills. If this happens again, tell him if he doesn't agree to go to the doctor, you will call 911. Really sick people don't get to call the shots. They often aren't thinking clearly. And some things to keep in mind also - steam REALLY helps congestion and also put Vicks Vaporub on his chest and also on the bottoms of his feet - with sox. There are receptors in the bottom of feet that connect to every part of the body.

IRISH - glad the car is all healed and back on the road. Hope you win at Bingo! I used to man the snack bar at church during Bingo, but I never played there. We do have Bingo, though, at our RV Rally and I never miss it! and GOOD NEWS!! Last night I learned that my newly favorite DBIL, Ed, is a cat person!! And he just got a new little tuxedo, "Stuart". He entertained us at dinner with Stuart Stories. My own sister's husband, Imitation Al, also has cats and one is a tux, "Popeye", but he's only a cat person by association and because he doesn't want to get divorced. Ed is the real deal!! I couldn't wait to tell you and Chickie about Ed and Stuart!

BECKY - an evening on your own! Hooray!! I thought your family was moving to a house down the road that was being prepared for rental. Was I wrong or did that fall through?

VELDA - I'm not sure if 'nightmare' will end up being the correct term, but when I start on a new project like you are, I do dream about it! Good luck!

Tonite, I don't feel like cooking. So I'm not. End of that story.

But you go ahead!

Good morning! Mary—sounds like you had a great trip yesterday! A surprise stash of good fabric!!! Wish Ace hardware in town had fabrics! At Mt. Vernon, MO, they used to have a Ben Franklin that had hardware and an amazing quilt fabric selection. I don’t know if it’s still over there, but it was renowned. From the outside of the building you’d never know it, but there were signs on the interstate, and my car loved to take that exit into the town!

I confess… the cakes were yummy!!! Like any good cat, I think I’ll have a leftover one for brunch this morning.

Oh, I can’t wait for longer days!!!

Becca—Mary gives good advice!

Irish—glad your car is back. I need my wheels home with me and in good shape!

I didn’t sleep well last night, so I’ll be swilling coffee like a fiend. I am starting the borders on this comfort quilt for my uncle. I want to get it finished and mailed ASAP. So, this is short today…

Dinner tonight… ham fried rice with my leftover rice.

Bon appétit!

Good morning!

I am quick here too.

Mart - what a find! I always thought that the Warm Co was inland, silly me!

Chickie - we had a Ben Franklin in Concord - it had great fabric, but it was bought out and then the fabric slowly disappeared.

Dinner - corned beef and swiss sandwiches - I will do mine panini style.

I have Emma and Baden here this morning. Gracie will be here tonight.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning :)
Mary, how sweet to have another cat person in your family. ..I love the name of his kitten :) And what a Fun surprise finding that quilt shop!

Chickie, I bet you'll be done in no time with your uncle's quilt.

I have the last border to put on Jazmyne's, I spent nap time yesterday taking the first border of because I wasn't happy with it and last night put a different first border on and then used what I had taken off as the second border so just the last border left. I have to cut it the length of the fabric 112" , Frankie is gonna help me cut it. I'm working on the borders for Matthew's too and will lay Easton's and Preston's on the floor tonight and see ifI want a black border on those. ... I'm hoping to be finished with sewing tthem by Sunday. ..I won't be home much this weekend, trying to finish the Christmas shopping tomorrow and then Sunday we're delivering our little travel trailer to a town west of us. .. about an hour or so away. .. Kevin is going to be using it while he's working out of town. He'll probably try to buy one later on but at least we have ours and it'll work fine for him right now.
Mom and Dad went to Derry, where their trailer is. The mover said everything needs to be taken out now and they wanted us to do it this weekend so the trailer could be moved next week and then us put everything back in the following weekend. ... the weekend before Christmas. ..I said no. ... Mom couldn't understand why we can't. .. ugh. She wants to be in her trailer by Christmas. ... all I could say was sorry but we can't help.
I'm not sure what supper will be but burgers on the grill site sounds good to me :)

Good early afternoon from just plain old dreary, cold, SW. Pa....Not much to be happy about in the weather department, except, we didn't get more snow, lol....

Mary, I am so looking forward to that extra minute and will certainly enjoy it! That special day is also my late Dad's birthday, good day all around...Boy, I'd say you really hit the jackpot, batting, fabric and another cat person! Love the names, Ed. Stuart and of course, Popeye....I always said, bingo was for old people, and here I am, right in the midst...It's kind of funny, how Jim used to work so hard getting things ready for our local bingo and now, he won't even go near the activity room when they're playing....And he has no interest if I tell him about going....

Tina, Always a busy time in your household...Was glad to hear you were able to tell your Mom, no...And I can understand how hard it can be but sometimes, it has to be done...Looking out at all the white stuff we have, those burgers on the grill sound so darn good! Enjoy 1 for me......

Chickie, had a little chuckle when you mentioned "cakes" again...That's 2 days in a row! You know that naughty list Mary keeps, gotta be careful! We've never had a Ben Franklin near here but I've stopped at them when traveling and always thought they were neat...There was one up near Erie that even had the wooden floors....But the last time I was at our big craft shop, Pat Catan's, they had fabric and it was really, really nice and a little cheaper, dollar wise, than JoAnn's...

Yesterday was kind of a fun day...On my way to see Jim, I stopped at the PO because I kept getting notices that I had a package...Normally I just pick up the mail at night but then I can't get the package...Well, Cindy, our PO gal made a big deal about me finally stopping and didn't I know, she needed room for other mail and boxes, just not mine....The whole corner of the PO was stacked with boxes from Kathy...She helped me carry and even enlisted the help of a fellow who had come in to mail a letter, lol...Most of the boxes are gifts for Kathy's kids and I get to play Santa...Left there and went to visit with Jim and he was really having a bad day...With the meds and the UTI, he's more confused and has gotten a lot weaker...After a couple of tries I did get him to go to dinner and when I saw he was going to eat, I left and went to my sister's...She was having spaghetti/meatballs, salad and garlic bread, so you know, I reserved my seat...We then went to bingo and being so cold, there were only about 12 there so they decided just to play the quickies and call it a night, which I ended up winning 2..Probably came away with a big $5.00...Stopped at Walmart on the way home and then talked to Kathy...She had told me, 1 box was for me and 1 of the gifts needed opened as soon as I got it..The reason, she had made up 2 albums about our Ireland trip and 1 is for my sister, which is out of this world...But in talking to her, she could write a book about the adventures of working in the PO...From being held hostage to homeless sleeping in the lobby, the tales go on and on...

Today, hopefully is stay at home day...Still have the bricks in the kitchen to paint and then put up the winter curtains...One of these days, I might be done but I doubt it...I want to start upstairs right after the holidays....Also trying to finish up a bunch of table toppers...I thought since I can't make for all the girls where Jim is, I'd make a couple and those who want them can have a drawing or whatever....Next week when I bake, I'll make sure they also get cookies...
Neat little story about Jim...We were sitting on a couch when one of the girls came over and he wanted to take her hand...Well, her hand was very cold and he took her hand and placed it on his heart and said, He'd warm it up for her...She left him with tears in her eyes....

Well, need to get with it....Maybe have another cup of tea and decide what "with it" really is, lol....
I think I'm with Mary in the no cooking tonight.....

You all have a great day, stay warm and think happy thoughts....

Happy eating................

Oh Mary, I love your dinner plans! HAHA...
Yes, my DH is working on a mobile home at the bottom of our hill for my DD & kids. Problem is, he isn't working very hard, or fast. I am sure he just doesn't mind having them. Always someone to pal around with, you know. Sigh.....
We didn't really have the evening to ourselves, we did go to the Winter concert. Brytt's last one, and yep, a few tears between the girls, but they did a stunning job!
Miriam, I guess that naughty list just doesn't bother you a bit, does it? Ha
Jana, you, Miriam & Tina are sewing, I guess. I need to put a couple bindings on this weekend, but sadly, they are not Christmas gifts, but I am sure they will be loved regardless.
Wow, Tina, way to go! Sadly, it sure could have already been done a while ago, but that wasn't your fault. I agree, you have little ones for Christmas that halting all would not be a good thing. Boy, talk about guilt!
Glad your DH is feeling better Becca.
So, Irish, you are the "Santa Claus" this year? How fun!
Well, I am not sure about dinner tonight. I think my DD is going to make Cheeseburger soup, but I guess if she doesn't I should at least think about a quick back up plan! Am so glad it is Friday, have lots to do tomorrow. You all enjoy your evening! Becky
