Psalm 119:41-72
While many people would consider it confining to be bound by God's law, it is actually liberating. The decision to follow the precepts of God takes care of a lot of dilemmas and decisions. It sets us free from the power of sin and selfishly motivated behavior. If we do not live in submission to the lordship of Christ and His way, we remain under bondage to our old sin nature. If we love and delight in God's commandments, figuratively lifting up our hands in surrender to His statutes, we are not ashamed to say, "This I believe."
Observing God's precepts, remembering His ordinances, and loving His law makes it natural for us to think of them and meditate on them, even in the night. They become a song in our hearts. Although we may be surrounded by a wicked world, we seek our companions among those who fear the Lord and keep His precepts, for they are an encouragement in our faithfulness and obedience. We are told in verses 66-67 and 71 that affliction is God's way of teaching us when we go astray; it brings us back to His Word and teaches us the validity of His statutes. We discover our own inadequacy and that opens our heart to be taught discernment and knowledge. Our prayer should always be that God would give us sound judgment to make decisions and choices based on the truth of His law and commandments. It is worth more than great wealth.
