dec 7 daily devotion

Psalm 119:17-40

We usually have the idea that we need to keep God's law and adhere to His Commandments in order to be blessed. However, in a reversal of that concept, the psalmist asked God to bless him and deal with him graciously in order that he might keep God's Word. We should pray that God would open our eyes to understanding and give us the insight to discern the wonderful truths in His Word. Too often we just read the Bible as an obligation and perfunctory practice, or for inspiration, and fail to comprehend the richness of the truth it reveals.

Our prayer should truly be:
1. Teach me the way of the Thy statues--authoritative decrees.
2. Give me understanding to observe the law--binding rules of conduct.
3. Make me walk in the path of thy commandments-mandates or edicts.
4. Incline my heart to Thy testimonies-affirmation and proof.
5. Revive me in Thy ways-direction or manner of living
6. Establish me in Thy Word-God's verbal and written instructions.
7. Turn me to your ordinances-proscribed parameters of behavior.
8. Make me long for Thy precepts-a standard or moral rule.

Hugs and prayers

This scripture is filled with things to ponder on.Sometimes we read hurriedly & lose the truths God has for us.May we ask God to give us understanding to grasp what truths He has for us. Becca

Thank you again Izzy for bringing us these devotions each day. What a wonderful and inspiring way to start our day.

I have a devotional that usually has only a few bible verses to read in connection with the devotion. I have found that if I read the entire chapter, I get a better understanding of those few verses.

You certainly gave us a lot to ponder today. May God bless you, Izzy as you go about your busy day but take time out for your ministry of a devotion each day. Remember to take time to sleep or rest in the midst of all your busyness.

Becca, I always enjoy what you and others add to the daily devotion. Like a mini bible study with in put from others. God bless you too for taking time to post a reply. I know how busy your day is as well.

Isn't it amazing how God can use just a few words each day to touch our hearts and indeed also our souls. May God bless all who read and are inspired by these readings.

Hugs, Shirley Mae

There are so many things to learn in reading our scriptures. No matter how many times you have read, as you go and study, there are new insights, answers to prayers of things that are troubling you. Even reading the same verses over.

Our spirits hunger to read and learn of the teachings of our Father in Heaven.

Jana, you and so many others always post such inspiring thoughts each day too. Thank you for posting.

I love this mini bible study. Thank you Izzy for bringing us together to learn not only from the bible, but also from the thoughts of others in various walks of life and diff backgrounds.

And Becca, I love that word ponder. I smile each time I see it. I know Izzy has used it in the past.

The first time I remember seeing that word "ponder" in print was in the bible and in reference to Mary but I don't remember the verse or exactly what it said other than she pondered on these things and kept them in her heart. May we all ponder each day and tuck those things into our own hearts.

Thank you everyone who reads and/or posts on this devotion. May God bless you all each and every day. Hugs and love, Shirley Mae

Shirley Mae - that verse is in the story of the birth of Christ. It is Luke 2 verse 19.

I too love that word ponder - much more than just thinking about something.

bllizzy: In Bible stud here Tues. eve, we spoke of these things. One of the gentleman said why don't people follow the Lord and the 10 Commandments?

I responded that to me they were a way of life and not that hard to adhere in life.

Hugs,
Helen
