SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Nov 20th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Nov 20, 2017 3:00 am

Good morning!

I kind of frittered the weekend away with a little sewing, a few uglies, some shopping, and some wrapping/packing/mailing. I got two packages off to Autumn in Texas and one to her BFF in Denver. and suddenly, it's Monday!

We received a more detailed report on our friend, Carol, who has Alzheimers and who was lost for 24 hours in temps down to 18*. She was dehydrated, had a lot of cuts, scratches and bruises, and her body temp was 85*. I'm sure she was also very confused. Her dog was found first by neighbors who were looking and she was found shortly thereafter. She is in the hospital right now. They live high on a mesa in western CO about 7,000 feet elevation. She was found halfway down the mesa, fighting her way through underbrush. Her husband says it's time for changes to be made. She's done this before and as a result, had, at one time, a monitoring device on her ankle. So I'm not sure why it wasn't working.

In other updates, we haven't had or seen any issues with Vicky, Emily is healing, my nephew with the brain tumor is recovering slowly, and his dad, my brother, has a renal scan today to determine the scope of his cancer. Our two friends with joint replacements are doing very well but Bill's brother, not so much. And Bill's uncle, who had a stroke last month, has recovered enough to be released from the hospital, but not enough to go home so he is now in assisted living. At 96, I'd say he's doing very well!

JANA - yes, those Search and Rescue teams are amazing! Our friend in Oregon (his wife had double lung transplant 5 yrs ago) is coordinator for them in his area. He has many stories to tell. I guess you need to get a big cat that won't fit in the train tunnels! Maybe two = they like company, you know . . . >^+^<

BECCA - good idea to get your TG baking done early! Did you freeze it? I hear bakers say they freeze cakes before frosting them - say they frost easier. What else do you have to do? I was going to bake a blackberry pie with the berries I picked in the summer, but kids are bringing pumpkin and since we're only going to be 6, maybe I'll wait a few days and make the blackberry pie for us.

IRISH - I'm so sorry so much tough stuff is going down in your family. I can only imagine how it is breaking your heart to see Jim withdrawing. But the good news he is in a safe place, is being well taken care of, and you can see him any time you want. Sending you a big hug!

Today, and the next 3 days, will be a bit of everything - cleaning, cooking, sewing, preparing. Hopefully no shopping! I've been to the store more times in the past week than I usually go in a month! lol! Though I fear a short trip to costco is in our very near future - perhaps tomorrow.

Now for supper - we have a lot of pinto beans left so I think we might have those tonite. Maybe over rice.

What's for dinner at your house?

Good morning! I keep getting unexcused absences here—not to say we aren’t eating… eating way too well!

Mary—what a relief that your friend was found and in such amazing shape for the conditions. Stay safe and well—your friends and family need you!

Jana—I, too, want to add my sincere condolences for Perry’s loss. I’m sorry. I’ve loved many fur kids. Each has/had their own personality, and none ever could replace another, but each is loved wholly and completely. I lose my heart to them each time, and when I lose one, my heart breaks. HUGS!

Linda—your sunroom is beautiful! What a lovely place to relax, dine, sew, work puzzles, live and enjoy!

Mary and Becca—when I was decorating cakes all the time, I kept a fresh one in the freezer for unexpected needs… and used them!

Irish—I saw that on the news about the young policeman. I’m so sorry you have so much heartache going on in your family and with Jim. We do have the best broad and padded shoulders; we are here for you when you can’t tell anyone else. We love you and understand—HUGS to you!!! Only those who have and love furballs can know how much comfort their little bodies can be in laps, on chests or just snuggled against you.

Tina—those tamales smell even better than my turkey or Mary’s beans! It’s good to be you and your family!

I’m going to have to make a pot of beans after Thanksgiving. They sound so good!

Yesterday I roasted a small turkey to use for my turkey and noodles for Thanksgiving and to accompany my dressing. I usually don’t put meat in the dressing. We had huge turkey sandwiches for supper, and they were soooooooooo good! The last few years I haven’t cooked the turkey, so we didn’t have leftovers for sandwiches.

I’m going to start on a comfort quilt in between my cooking projects. I’ll probably make my noodles tomorrow, so hopefully today I can be in my sewing room today and part of tomorrow while the noodles are drying. I’ll cook them and the dressing Thursday morning.

Dinner tonight… I’m thinking more of those turkey sandwiches. I didn’t get enough! DS is smoking turkeys for Thanksgiving, and I really like the plain ole roasted turkeys best.

I came here today before putting on my face—the calves had to see the witch with the fuzzy white hair blowing in the wind, and you have had to endure the same view sans wind. But… at least I made it to the table today! I hope you all have a super day!

Bon appétit!

Good afternoon!

I am not in a good mood - dealing with Social Security as it is the time I have to sign up for Medicare - uggggh!! Finally got through to a real live person - be back shortly ---

Talked to a helpful person here in Utah and the online services are only for the primary person, not spouse, but a manager will call me back and help - dealing with two different government agencies - CALPERS and social security to get them to play nice together - I would rather piece another JN quilt!

Dinner - a soup of some sort - broccoli cheese, minestrone, tortellini - we will see, then again polksa kiebasa one pan dinner might happen as well.

Getting old ain't for sissys!

Enjoy,
Jana

I'm late again. I've had a full busy day and I'm tired but I'm getting things done so that's a good thing.
Irish, I wish I could come help you and give you a hug.
Chickie, my tamales turned out dry. ... they taste good but the masa is dry and won't release from the husks. ... and wouldn't you know it I got the heat factor perfect LOL
Becca, I wonder what happened with you posting.
Jana, SS isn't a fun place to be. ..I wish they were no automated systems.
Mary, I'm so glad they found your friend!

We were 27 this morning and I had turned the furnace all the way down so it was barely 60 in the house. ...a tad too cool for me so I turned the furnace on.
We had leftover soup for supper, Frankie had a crown that had to be replaced and he was feeling pretty rough but after a bowl of soup and Tylenol he started feeling better and then we had a cup of the leftover crock pot rice pudding. ... yummy.
