SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Sept 4th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Sep 04, 2017 4:19 am

Good morning!

We have a very pleasant 61* this morning, but going to 90 later today. I have all the windows and doors open and the ceiling fan going to distribute cool air throughout the house before I close it up again later. Later in the week we'll be down in the low to mid 70's - purrfect!! I really feel for you all in that extreme heat!

I received my new hand embroidery pattern for the fifty state birds yesterday and started cutting out 10" squares and stamping the patterns. This will be my hand travel project for the next 6 years, I expect! My sister is doing the state flowers - going on 4 years now, I think. lol!

BECCA - Lupper - a light meal between lunch and supper. Just like brunch is between breakfast and lunch. Ta-da! your new word for the day! Linner is also an accepted term.

LINDA - 98* and no air. Whew! I think I'd be living in that pool! Is it shaded at all?

JANA - I thought about whether to hold off on mailing Aut's quilt, but she lives in Austin where life is pretty much back to normal. She says people are coming to the library as always, no flooding or serious damage in her area. And we sent it to her library rather than her house where no one is home during the day. Hope Daniel is doing OK on the firelines. After working firecamps for one season, I just can't believe how a human can do what they do, in the extreme heat, carrying such heavy packs. Talk about Supermen/women!!

We are invited to a BBQ about 3pm. There will be burgers, 'dogs, and chicken burgers, baked beans, salads, and I'm taking deviled eggs and apple pie. There should be 12-14 folks there. Scottie has to stay home and watch the place. Sad dog.

Are you doing anything special for Labor Day?

Good morning! We were warm this morning when I went out to feed all the calves and pull the hoses for filling the water tubs. We’re going to +90 here today as well. I’ll be inside shampooing carpets. DH won on the replacement, so I’m going to be shampooing forever. It will take several days to get up the first layer of grime…

Did you see where Nancy Zieman is retiring? Not because she wants to… so sad… one of her cancers has metastasized, and they are taking immediate steps to get her business affairs in order. She’s had a rough time of it the last couple of years.

Mary—you have more social engagements than anyone I know! You are loved to have so many friends and opportunities for good food!

Jana—I agree with Mary about the supermen and women on the fire lines. I’ve seen the equipment our volunteer department wears on calls, and I’m not sure I could get the boots off the ground once I had all the gear, clothing and equipment on—not to mention the heat!

We went to the BBQ before the street dance last evening, but we didn’t stay for the dance. We were both tired. I’d done laundry and hung it out and brought it in, and I spent hours on the floors in addition to calf care. It was hot and dusty, too.

Linda—I feel for you with the heat! That pool is a lifesaver, I am sure! We had no breeze yesterday, and my towels are stiff and scratchy. I don’t mind—it’s like exfoliating when drying off; but I thought of you. We have some of those talkative people here—they wear me out. They have taken to coming by and staying, and staying, and staying… I was reminded of your camping comrades.

Becca—what’s happening in your area?

Labor day—I’ll be laboring with the shampooer. What a blast… not!!! I have some steak to fix for dinner, although I’ll probably have salad without the steak, or maybe a steak salad. I’m sure I can fix something for DH to go with the steak.

Bon appétit

Good morning!

Mary - with all the Porch Pirates these days, it is good to send the quilt to Autumn's library. Have fun at the BBQ!

Chickie - sorry about the losing out and having to labor today! I need to do my carpets again before it gets too cold here, so I can keep the windows open to help it dry faster.

Daniel's fire is over 60% contained, so Calfire may move his strike team to another fire. There are too many to choose from - not a good thing!

Dinner will be BBQ'd chicken and fresh corn.

We are hot today, already shut up the house.

Ethan will come for a visit. He called grandma last night, in tears, because he hasn't seen me. So I am sure he will be here any minute.

Enjoy!

Hello everyone,Sunny & pleasant here today .Started of at 54.

Maryz I agree with Chickie .You do have a lot of social invites but that is great. We used to go a lot but those days come to a screeching halt when DH had his first stroke.
Enjoy your BBQ.DGS that lives out there said they are going to one too & go swimming .
Chickie It's a auiet day here except for what I discovered when I went for my walk.A bear (we think) took a big hunk out of CAs riding lawn mower seat.He make four puncture bites in seat.
I too would have left before the dance.Guess I'm old.lol

Jana I too really admire & respect fire fighters. My DS& 2 DGS are fighters but don't have the fires like you have out there.Enjoy Ethan. Our Sawyer too thought the first few days were it & he was finished.

Linda I think I would live in the pool. You have no AC! Wow ! That's too hot for me.I don't do goood with heat.

I stripped both beds & changed them.Did Mumbo dance .Plan to make Spagetti sauce this afternoon for tomorrow.I am frying potatoes and onions.Steamed kale.burger for me & Turkey sausage for CA, Becca

Late morning all.

Our power came back on yesterday, so we have AC again. Having monsoon weather again, with the heat. Due to the winds last night another big branch fell off the tree in front. This one fell on the front lawn. I got out early to begin to clean up all the hedge clippings I made last week. Star and Asian Jasmine have that milky, sticky sap that drip like water after you cut it. So I had to let it "cure" for several days before I could clean it up without getting dripped on. I have a special old shirt and jeans that I save just to wear when I cut this hedge. However, they make me even hotter that it already is. It was 80 outside at 6 a.m., with high humidity. Still overcast from all the smoke. 2 1/2 hours outside is my "labor" for today.

Now that I am in, I think I will NOT do any house cleaning. Will just work on my Jenni Beyer quilt. DH is doing better today, he thought he had a head cold yesterday and he doesn't do well with being sick. He feels better today. He is trying a new soup today, called "Sunday Gumbo", that is chock full of veggies, chicken, sausage and rice.

To those of you who shampoo rugs....That was my yearly job every summer I was off. Took me a week or more, doing only 1 room a day. I did more than 1 rinse to get out all the residue. Could not believe how only two people made the carpet so dirty. Then last year I got all hardwood floors. LOVE THEM. No more shampooing!!! It is so much easier to push a dust mop or a wet microfiber cloth. This aging body was so disliking pushing the shampooer back and forth. My sympathies to you who are still pushing and hauling buckets of water!

Happy Labor Day! Enjoy!

Linda - I know why my light colored carpets get dirty - 9 grandchildren, 10 adults and one kitty! And snow, as pretty and white it is, is dirty too! Wouldn't trade any of it! LOL
