SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Aug 30

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Aug 30, 2017 3:29 am

Good morning!

We were almost 90 last few days, will barely be 70 today, then climb back to 90 again late this week. I think Mother Nature is confused and can't make up her mind!

I am hoping to finish up my Heart to Art 'Jolly Old St. Nick' Santa quilt top today. It's only 60" square and should go quickly. I'm almost ready to start sewing blocks together. I've also started pulling fabrics for a Halloween mantle scarf for my older DD, Lara. And I'm 'shopping' through all my QIAD books, trying to decide on a block for Tina's 30's fabric. I got my Kona white yesterday!

Bill and his sister are going to go visit their brother, Mike, today. Mike has asked them to come. Which is a FIRST! They have never invited anyone to visit them before. Turns out his ca is very advanced and wide spread throughout his body, not just in his liver. We think he wants some quality sibling time before he gets much sicker. We know Mike isn't going to beat this, but we just pray for good pain control, some good family times, and peace.

TINA - Can't wait for your new swap to begin!

BECCA - is your DS selling and buying homes to move closer? That is quite a commitment! God bless him!

JANA - So sorry that Kate is so sick. I was so fortunate in that regard. And you are right - family nearby is such a blessing. I would love our kids to be closer. My Lara lives 30 miles to the north, Mike is 40 miles east, and Autumn is 2,500 miles south. and the only grands we have are 20 and 23 and have very busy lives with work, school, friends, plus the oldest has his own house and yard to maintain. We hardly ever see our family. I love reading about yours.

CHICKIE - I know with four calves, all the dogs, company (your SIL), the comfort quilt, and altering the MOB dress for your DIL, as well as your mom and DH, you are probably hopping around like a one legged woman in Indiana Jones snake pit! Hope you have time to eat!

So, while Bill is gone, I think I'll put a small stew in the crockpot. Bill will need comfort food tonite when he comes home. Plus, I happen to have all the ingredients and they need to be eaten up!

What are you eating up tonite?

Morning all:

Actually got here early because I had an appt to get bloodwork at 7:15. It is already too hot to get out and work in the yard. It was 109 in the shade here yesterday. Same predicted all week. Today is cloudy and spitting occasional rain drops, so it is humid on top of that. We are so hot here, plus with the fires all around us, the air quality is bad, bad, bad. DH and I are back on our allergy meds to cope.

We have no floods, no fires, no wind here, but we still had a big branch fall from our Chinese Tallow tree in the front yard yesterday. It fell right in front of our kitchen nook window, just barely missing the roof. The last tree trimmers did "lion's tail" cutting of our tree 6 months ago and DH knew we were in trouble. This is the 2nd large branch to fall since it was trimmed and DH sees several more with falling potential. We will never use that company again.

MaryZ - So, so sad about Vicki. Wish there was something that could be done. Prayers for your BIL that he is comfortable and peaceful to the end. I am glad he is gathering the family around and making his time count. The pic of us camping was taken with a tripod and we were trying to look "natural", as if you can look that way with a camera in your face, LOL.

Chickie - Saw the cutest video of 11 baby goats all lined up sucking on milk bottles mounted on a board. All the gal had to do was move their little bodies to get them straightened out and their little tails were wagging a mile a minute. Cute, Cute. Did you say you had a "milk board" for your calf brood?

Jana - I worked OB-GYN for some years and I always felt so bad for the gals that had severe morning sickness. For them, pregnancy was an illness. In those days we had an effective pill for it, but it was removed from the market because everyone got so "sue happy", even though it was proved that the pill was not the cause of any birth defects. The company just said they were tired of the cost of defending themselves.

Becca - Glad family is moving closer. As I age, I miss my family more and more. At least I can still drive 6 hours to see them.

Tonight DH says he is trying out a new recipe for veggie soup, and my job is cooking the pork chops. OK with me, even the massive clean up I know is coming! The mess he makes always results in delicious food!

Have a wonderful day, I am counting my blessings.

Happy late afternoon!

Did some grocery shopping and we picked up Stu's car. Sarah and her DH will take it to him on Saturday. Stu got his classes straightened out and where he needed them to be. He was also hired by the school, working as a stage hand/sound techie for the school's productions. Every bit helps.

Dinner will be my one pan polska kielbasa broccoli and tortellini with swiss cheese sauce. Michael has a church meeting, then after we will have dinner.

Tomorrow is Ethan's first day of school. He is excited. He also asked for his own alarm clock so he can get up by himself. We will see how long that lasts! LOL My money is on less than a week. When he met with his new teacher, they did a assesment for 18 things he must know by the end of kindergarten. He is already on 12. Part of what he will learn is what are triangles, squares, circles, and rectangles. He knew all of those and asked the teacher about pentagons and trapizoids. Oh the fun she is going to have!

Mary - hope that the siblings have good talks and lots of memories from these visits. My MIL did the same, excluding any of us in law children from family discussions. I understand now, but at the time was a little miffed. I won't make that mistake with my children and their spouses - they are all my children - no different status.

Linda - camera or not, you look very relaxed and enjoying every minute! My DH and his dad spent time hiking up in Kings Canyon when he was young. Too bad about those fires - we need a few at time to clear out underbrush, but not those by careless humans.

Becca - you snuck in while I was typing - yippee about your blood work!

Well, time to get going,
Enjoy,
Jana

I'm sliding into my chair late again.
Mary, my thoughts, prayers and hugs are with you guys. .
Becca, your blood work news is great!
Jana, Ethan is so funny :) I can see he's going to need extra challenges to keep his brain stimulated. .... we had to do that with our kids :)
Linda, I loved your picture, so peaceful and fun. Your DH cooking sounds like my dad when we were little LOL but man oh man was the good ever yummy! It was way worth the mess too :)
We had burgers on the grill and corn on the cob for supper. I finally remembered to thaw my roast for tomorrow :)

We've been very upset in this family. Our daughters Chihuahua that we bought her when she was 17 died last night. We don't know what happened. She's been perfectly fine. And I a totally done with my sister.

On a happier note. .. Jazmyne, Easton and Preston all went to the dentist today. Jazmyne no cavities, Easton has 1 but he was a rock star in the chair and loved having his teeth cleaned LOL and then Preston wouldn't even open his mouth. I didn't get to go because Holly was so upset and when I got the kids in the car and ran in to get my purse and keys she thought I didn't want to go and left. It was ok but I felt bad that I couldn't help her, we both cried all night long over her little doggie. Neither of us got much sleep. She was an extra special one.
Night
Tina
