SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Aug 3rd

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Aug 03, 2017 3:36 am

Good Morning,

We are scurrying this morning as we'll be on our way camping in a few hours. Cats are suspicious as they are locked in and can't go outside. It's 130 miles to our campground which we're told is right on the beach. We've never been there but the friends we are going with say it's quite nice. We will be there for 3 nights and then inland 30 miles for one night so we can visit Bill's sister. We'll be in Bill's old stomping grounds as he grew up in this area. But the big news is that temps will be 25* cooler! Only 68*-72* is predicted. Yippee!

CHICKIE - meatball subs was a terrific idea! And I think that's what either lunch or supper will be! We have two buns left, too. I never thought of that! You are right - your animal babies do live high on the hog at your house! (you don't have hogs, too, do you? I wonder what that phrase means to them!). Did you get your baby quilt all finished?

JANA - Just so you know, you have caused me to get out my JN table topper pattern and pull fabrics. I'm taking the pattern to the beach to study up. Not sure when I'll actually get to it, but when I do, I'll be ready to go. I love the planned colors of your JN. Especially with a dash of purple it will look like a Utah sunset! I open windows in the cool of the morning and turn on the ceiling fan to distribute the cooler air. when inside and outside temps are equal then I close it all up and pull shades - at least on the sunny side of the house. and our basement, dug halfway into the dirt, is always cool. But my sewing machine is upstairs!

IRiSH - we are cut from the same cloth! you can't disturb the purr-babies! My sister, too. She often has 3 lumps in her bed when she's done making it! Wild side of Ireland. Explains a lot! I bet that's where I came from, too!

BECCA - sure hope your car comes home today! Why are they predicting loss of power and services? Because of the eclipse?? Are you having a storm? I remember all the Y2K predictions of disaster. But nothing happened.

TINA - I hope your massage helped your arm. Mine fixed my tennis elbow in two appointments and it's never returned.

LINDA - lucky for you to have a pool to cool off. I bet that feels good. Hope your new bird babies do better this time! Smart move to postpone the garage sale. and to add to it! I've read tips in magazines to use baker's racks in sewing rooms. A project on each slide in shelf. Brilliant!

Yesterday my 52-yr old nephew stopped by and didn't leave for five hours. What is it with lengthy drop-ins lately?? Second night in a row we had surprise folks here for supper. Last night I just ordered pizza. Everyone was happy! Tonite's supper will be either leftover pizza or those meatball subs Chickie suggested. We'll be at camp with our friends and I'm not sure what they have planned - a combined meal or our own suppers. This is their trip, their plan, their club campground. But they haven't communicated anything to us about food plans so my guess is we're on our own. Which, actually, I prefer, I think. another night we're having tacos, and last night will be grilled chicken with rice and corn on cob. I have DH's birthday cake, frozen, for afters if we want any.

Bill says we may have internet at the ocean, so I may be here tomorrow. But he's not sure.

Cheers!

Good morning! Mary—sounds like things are busy at your house! The hooligans get quite suspicious when they get locked in as well. I can’t believe 68-72 degrees daytime! We are lucky to have that at night. Our temperatures are back up to upper 80s and low 90s. They will go higher before Summer is over. We’re to be 91 today, then back to 80s.

I’m sandwiching the baby quilt today. It’s ready to pin and quilt. I got pulled off several times yesterday. No, no hogs here… other than the ones around the dog bowls…

Linda—it’s hard to work around the birds. We don’t change our routine for the swallows in DH’s garage. I guess it’s good the paper missed the sale with the funeral happening across the street. I like the idea of the baker’s racks! I wish I had a live-in cook! I’m not sure about the clean up after mine…

Tina—it’s amazing that school is starting so soon. The boy across the road is enrolling today for his classes. I think he’s in 6th or 7th grade (country school goes to 8th grade).

Becca—I feel for you with only having one car! It’s always nice to have a spare. I’ve had to take one of DH’s vehicles when I’ve had a flat and he’s at coffee. I do hope you get yours back SOON! Maybe you can put some pressure on them. I know venison has less fat and more protein. I’m not crazy about it by itself and use it in with chili meat if we have it. The guys usually make brats or jerky with theirs. I’m just not a meat eater, either. Our cattle are definitely grass fed. Even Blackie and Pocket Lint are out grazing all day.

Jana—your colors sound so lovely… like Mary said, a glorious sunset in Utah and the landscape.
Irish and Mary—when I make the bed, I always have help as well. Odie gets moved from one side to the other. He is quite indignant when he gets moved. (Same way during the night when I want to turn over and he’s pressed into my side.)

Irish—it seems like the more hummer feeders I put up, the more come. I also think we may be on a flyway and get a lot of the migrating birds. We have periods of unbelievable activity and over 100 birds at a time—usually evenings.

Yesterday afternoon a friend called wanting us to go out to dinner with them. Of course I was eager to not cook and gave a resounding yes to their plans. Then I had to find DH and let him know. He didn’t answer my texts or phone calls. I was about to cancel dinner when I finally got him to answer. He said he got the text and it was fine but he didn’t know what time. It WAS in my text, but he didn’t read it… just the first 3 words… Poor Boy’s tonight… Anyway, he made it home and got a quick shower—all was good. I was a hot mess hoping he would get home in time, as these friends like to go early. So funny. But, I do have leftovers for me for dinner tonight. I’ll come up with a plan for him… I might share mine and add salads, corn on the cob and melons…

Mary—good luck with all your food plans at the campsite! I’m sure you will have a feast whatever you do… and the beach… enjoy!!! I’m so wishing I was one of your fur kids and getting to go!

Bon appétit!

Good morning :o)
My massage was for my back, Saturday I slipped on water spilled at Walmart and my back and legs have been screaming at me. I feel much better today. I'm ready to throw my elbow away.
Gotta cut this short, kids need me.
Oh supper tonight is tacos.

Woke up to a dark sky, AC came on at 6 a.m. It was already 84 outside and 82 inside, high humidity and the sun was a blood red. There were lots of dry lightning strikes in the mountains yesterday, so there must be fires. My morning walk was very uncomfortable due to the humidity. This is our August Monsoon season. Continuing in the 100's for another week.

DH is experimenting with being spontaneous. We have had to plan everything around work for 50 years. So yesterday he popped up with "Let's go to San Francisco" this weekend. I couldn't think of any reason not to, so we leave Friday and come back Sunday. SF is only 3 1/2 hours away. There is a huge arts and craft fair there and DH thought it might be interesting. Funny, because he normally won't go to those kind of things with me. But, if it is HIS idea, it happens. He lived in SF when he was attending Berkeley so he wants to see his old haunts again.

Yesterday was so hot outside I did spend the afternoon in. Worked on getting sleeves made for the 4 quilts I am putting in our show in Sept. Also perfected Teresa's lotto blocks...need exact measurements for that one. The house is still a mess from DH's office and I can hardly stand the clutter anymore. Hopefully, after the yard sale, someone can come pick up all the left-overs and I can reclaim my house.

MaryZ - have fun at the beach and enjoy the cooler weather. We have only been camping once this year. We figure we will be free and clear by Christmas, so 2018 is when we will take off more.

Chickie - Our night time temps are like yours, 94 at 10:00 at night. I love how you love animals and take such good care of them. DH throws seed in the street every night for the birds. We have doves, sparrows, bluejays and sometimes crows. At night the mice come across the street from the orchard so there is an owl that sits on the street light in our front lawn. And he over feeds our turtle. Feeding everything (including me) is how he shows love.

Becca - Hope you get your car back soon. How's the eating going? Must be hard to plan for both of you. I hate being forced to eat. DH's experiment with Chinese pork did not taste good. I did not even keep the leftovers. Don't know what he has planned for tonight. I think it will be spaghetti (I can make that) and a salad. Neither of us is really hungry when it is so hot and humid.

Have the best day you can today....prayers for all those in need.

Good morning!

DH had a meeting last night, so after he got home, we finished off all the leftovers. So I will need to cook tonight. Leaning along the lines of chicken parm.

Lots of cloud cover, but we are still hot. The proverbial "they" say, rain for most of the week. That will cool us off, down to the low 90's, but today we are flirting once again with the triple digits.

Heading down to play in the Batt Cave,
Enjoy!
Jana
