SUPPER CLUB - thursday, July 27th
Good morning!
We are having a welcome cool down for a couple of days - we should only make it to low 70's today. I'm going to try to store it all up before heading to 100* Yakima tomorrow! We're mostly packed for this 2-night trip and also for the six days at the ocean that follow. We'll have 2 nights at home in between.
I am sort of between sewing projects right now. I'm hand stitching labels and kind of cleaning up things in my sewing room. But thanks to Jana, I'm going to get out my Judi Niemeyer table topper pattern and at least look at it. I doubt I'll actually start it but maybe when we are home again. . . .
JANA - old kitchen cabinets sure do come in handy for other things! Bill has some in the garage and he built a workbench over the top of them.
BECCA - today is blood work day. I'm anxious to see if it shows anything. Way back when my kids were little (37 years ago!), we borrowed my parents truck/camper to go on a short camping trip - and broke down and had to be towed 25 miles. turns out squirrels had nested in the engine and chewed through wires. UGH!! It was an easy fix though. I hope yours will be, too.
CHICKIE - you are just too busy! You will live forever, girl, because you are too busy to die! God can't catch up with you! lol!! Loved the picture of the new cow baby. Sorry you had to go to another visitation, though.
IRISH - I'm glad you had a good visit with Jim, but I can only imagine how hard it is to leave him. Do any other family members go visit? And your poor sister! Is it her heart no pumping effectively that is causing her poor circulation or some other reason? Or do they know. Glad you are able to be there for her.
TINA - how are you doing? Your arm? your DD? Is Mary Rose still with you?
Bill is putting new tires/wheels on our fifth-wheel. He doesn't like the tires that came with it and the wheels were cracking causing flats. So the wheel makers sent us four new DIFFERENT wheels and he bought new tires and had them mounted yesterday up in Seattle. Now today he's changing four tires! He is very particular about tires on all our rolling stock. I'm glad he is.
Since we at the burgers last night, I think we'll grill chicken tonite. I'll make rice, using chicken broth and some seasonings for the water and add a salad. We are running low on everything but lettuce, so I'll get inventive - craisins, frozen peas, walnuts, cheese, hard boiled egg.
Have you got a plan yet?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - thursday, July 27th
Good morning! We are overcast, but no precipitation… Yesterday all day the sky looked like it could brew up a storm, and there were a few sprinkles that didn’t amount to even a trace. We picked corn yesterday, and I filled the freezer. This time I left it on the cob in the shucks. We cut the ends off and placed the ears in freezer bags. They cook in the microwave in the shucks, then you hold them with a potholder, zip a little shuckins open and squeeze out the ear of corn leaving the silks inside the shucks. It’s fast, neat and oh so juicy! Takes more room in the freezer, but so much less prep time and mess, plus—corn-on-the cob all year long!
Last evening, DD and DGD came over to borrow the wheelchair (left from MIL’s care). DGD badly sprained her ankle last week and is on crutches—no walking or weight on it at all! They are going to Kansas City for DD’s birthday tomorrow and thought the wheelchair would be less painful for DGD. I gave DD a bunch of corn for her freezer, some of Tina’s refrigerator pickles, some of the dill pickles I made from another recipe and some jalapeño jelly. We checked, and there weren’t any watermelons or cantaloupes ready yet to give her.
She let me know about 5 minutes after getting back home that Tina’s pickles are delicious!!! Thank you again, Tina, for the recipe!
When we took the corn stalks and end cuttings down to the cows, we were surprised with our cow “Cindy Lauper” (named for her crazy multi-colored blonde “hair” style)—she had the most adorable calf nursing at her side. This little lass is the prettiest color of milk chocolate with a Phantom of the Opera blaze/mask across her face in white. I’m calling her Phantom. Cindy’s baby is a huge surprise, as we thought she was barren. When DH purchased her two years ago, she was supposed to be in her second or third trimester… nothing… until now! So, we have 27 cows and 28 calves—best percentage we’ve ever had, and all calves survived!
Today… DH has a dental appointment, and when he returns… going to town to mow at the rental. I knew it would happen, but at least today is only to be 90 instead of 99. I’ve finished sweeping the floors, so I’m headed in to work on the baby bibs. I didn’t have much time yesterday, but I created a hat from “Cat in the Hat” appliqué for one of them. Today I’ll put it together and finish it. I’m making one more for the little guy that will be a “shirt and tie” look with a little collar on it. Then… on to little girl ones.
Mary—I hope you are alerting the Arctic Fox people they need to change wheel manufacturers and consider better tires. I’m particular about tires on my truck. I buy 10-ply commercial tires because of our gravel roads. I hate being stalled somewhere, and I’m too darn old to be changing tires on the side of the road!
Irish—I am not taking care of the new babies all the time. We just stopped by on the way home from the fair the other evening as DS and his family are camping down there. DS has been going back and forth from home/fair/work, but he was going to be late Monday evening and asked if I’d be a surrogate for him. Oh, they are cute! I almost had the one, but DGD wanted to keep it, and she got the other from DS2 since they were nearly the same size and age. Of course, I would take them all if called upon to do so! I just love all those little ones and the big cows, too!!! I told DH I want one of those little cement cow statues/yard art on my grave! Your sister—I hope she gets better soon!!! So glad she has you nearby!
Dinner tonight… more corn on the cob along with steak sandwiches for DH and moo goo gai pan for me. And, we have watermelon.
Bon appétit!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - thursday, July 27th
Farmchick..... Just sent you a pm.
We have flooding all over KC area. What was flooded early this am is receding but water is going on down the rivers and other places are starting to flood now.
Lots of businesses were flooded and beyond repair. Water up to ceilings, had a fire dept water rescue when 2 people got trapped in a bar/grill and finally got up as far as attic. Had to cut hole in roof to rescue them. Lost everything inside. Think that whole strip mall is gone.
KC Fire dept said they had 36 fire rescues of people in cars etc overnight and still at it. Water came up so fast, couldn't even get cars turned around before they were trapped in rushing flood waters.
Please tell your DD in case they haven't heard how bad it is here right now. Rain has stopped but flash flooding has not and lots of roads were closed this morning too. Sorry to hear about DGD and needing a wheel chair. No fun for your birthday or anytime else either.
Be thankful you did NOT get any of the storms. I think we had about 6" here and some areas had more than 8" and it was still raining there. Your pond would be full and overflowing if you got all of that in one night.
Thank you for taking such good care of all of God's creatures in your corner of the world. I know you enjoy every min of it, as exciting as it gets day to day.
MaryZ......May God bless you with safe travels and lots of fun-filled memories on your trips. I wish we could still travel. I miss it so much but we do have our memories and so enjoy hearing about others travels. You are such a busy lady but you do know how to enjoy life. Nothing seems to slow you down much.
Thank you for the supper club. Sorry to hear you have NO projects in the works right now. Can't believe you sitting still doing nothing, at least nothing quilt wise. I so admire all the projects you do and make them look so easy. Your Fancy Forest looked impossible but you proved it can be done and quickly too. Thank you for being you.
I have no idea what we are having for supper. Rod just returned from a short walk that lasted a long time. Visiting with neighbors, or doing a "Shirley" as he calls it. I visit with everyone I see.
One family in here woke up to a very wet aptmt. Said when she was sloshing across the kitchen early this am, she knew they had a major problem. Guess bedroom was only area that isn't sopping wet.
They have a beautiful yard and guess it is a mess too. Their swan planter disappeared, probably floating down stream, happily running away from home. She said it smells like sewage so wonder if sewers backed up in all the flood waters. We sit a little higher here, got some water in garage but only near door and it is gone now.
Good morning to all other hungry folks on here. I try to read when I can but don't post often. Too busy running to drs again around our house but we will survive. We always do, thank the Lord for that.
I enjoy reading about your lives and your meals. Gives me some ideas too. We did have biscuits and gravy and fried eggs for supper last night. Leftovers. WE ate at Hardy's yesterday while running errands after some dr apptmts so wasn't too hungry and need to clean our fridge once in awhile or it goes to critters in the woods below us.
Gotta scoot. God bless you all today, If you need prayers, you have them, for healing or whatever. Have a great day, may God smile on whatever you do today and whatever you eat tonight.
Love and hugs from soggy, flooded Kan City, MO. Shirley Mae

Re: SUPPER CLUB - thursday, July 27th
Good afternoon from warm but not real sunny, SW. Pa...But, it really is a great day......I thought this was lunch day with the gals but it's tomorrow so, now I have time to finish the bathroom and then visit Jim.....
Mary, I agree about those tires/wheels...Better to be safe..Since I've taken over car duties, I'm really learning a lot, not only filling the tank....Jim has been getting lots of visitors.. 2 of the boys have jobs that are near by and stop in coming and going..Terry usually stops on the weekends..Of course, he still gets visits from those old friends that have been gone for years...But, if he wants to tell me about them, it's fine with me...And as we said before, who's to say, they aren't there.....
With my sister, they keep saying it's not her heart and could be the veins in her legs are just not big enough or able to handle the blood as they should...One doctor even mentioned surgery to replace those veins but then did say, if she ever did have heart problems, they'd have a hard time finding new veins.....She really is a problem!Quite a few years ago, she had an episode, thinking at first it was a stroke but after every test they could think of, really couldn't pin point the problem and were almost ready to give up....They honestly thought she wasn't going to make it until her DH suggested testing her for allergies...Sure enough, that was it....But, this is different....As I said, she is a problem, lol......
Becca, been thinking of you and praying you get good results on your blood work...Also, hoping for a inexpensive repair....You sure don't need more problems.....
Chickie, I have a feeling we are very much alike only your babies are much bigger than mine....I had just seen another video of baby goats and I would love, love to add 1 or 2 to my funny farm..I figure, amusement plus grass cutting, purrrrfect! AND I love making corn in the micro wave like you do...I hate the thought of trying to get all the silk off that ear but this method is great...I might just have to stop at the market on my way home today and get some...Now I'm really hungry for it.....
Instead of finishing the bathroom yesterday, I got out the weed whacker and boy am I feeling it today...But, in a way, it made me feel good, lol...And I did have a young fellow stop by to look at the gutters and trim a big tree that hangs over the roof...He and his wife advertise as "Honey Doers" and I'll be darned, they do everything...I told him, just pack your clothes and move in, I'll give him a list that will keep him busy for months....I know my boys don't want me calling someone but I sure don't want them to even think about doing these trees.....
I also just heard, a very close friend lost her daughter to addiction...The DD was 59 and has battled this for years but had been doing so well...This same friend had also lost her DH and DS because of a drunk driver....
As far as dinner, it will be corn if the market isn't sold out by the time I get there, lol....If not corn, I'm sure I'll find something...Last night I had sautéed zucchini and cinnamon toast for after and it was quite good, lol......
You all have a great day..........
Happy eating...................

Re: SUPPER CLUB - thursday, July 27th
I am really late getting here again. Sigh!!! I went to TOPS this morning and lost 2.4 lbs this week. I just realized that the more you take off the harder it is to maintain and also to loose. I have lost 17 lbs since Jan. And now it is getting a little tougher
Tuesday afternoon I was at my small quilting group and I got a text from a very good friend that the most wonderful caring, generous man had died unexpectedly. It was my girlfriend 's husband.i still can not believe it. He will be so missed by many people. God must have needed another angel very badly. So sad. Makes you stop and think how fragile life really is.
Luke or socks as we call him now lol is doing really well. Hopefully in another couple of days I will be able to remove the sock and hopefully he won't get it raw again.
Ken is off to PT for his back, and I am in the sewing room. Working on some placemats. A friend of mine gave me a kit from Sewing With Nancy for watermelon. Placemats. She bought it and decided she did not want to do them so she gave it to me. Lucky day.
Tonight we are having the forbids food, salad, and possibly onion rings. This is my one day in the week I can cheat on my diet. If we have onion rings that will be the cheat. Lol
Made up a big tray of vegetables and my favorite dip. So DH and I will be nibbling on that for the next week.
Btw where is Tina's recipe for the pickles???? Must try them. Lol
Have fun on your trips Mary. We are staying put until DH gets thru all these medical things. No we have not sold our motor home yet. Got it advertised too late, the travelers were already gone. Had lots of low ball offers , even property in CO., a television entertainment system worth $10,000. Now that is crazy. Oh yes, some guy was waiting for his inheritance and wanted to give us 10,000 and we hold the rest of the mortgage. I told him to get his inheritance and send me the money. It has been interesting. I am not giving it away, and we don't need the money..so...... Maybe next spring. It is. 40 foot Winnebago Vectra, 2005 diesel .
Well must run and start working on these placemats . Love to all at the table,
Carole

Re: SUPPER CLUB - thursday, July 27th
Good afternoon!
Tonight I will do a tri tip roast I picked up at Costco yesterday. Matt will be here for dinner. He is coming out to hang with his dad. They will work on the railroad build.
It looks like I will do the big quilt in my class. It will finish out at 100 x 100. My longarm has plenty of room to quilt that big quilt. Now on to order the pattern. When I get that, then I will get the fabric. First class is in September 9th. I have time to find all the fabric. Then one class a month - guess that it will take that long for the homework! LOL
Sarah and I are heading off to get the fabric that is at two different Jo Ann's. She is recovering two wing chairs that she bought at a garage sale for $20. Each Jo Ann's has the same fabric, just enough for one chair, sso we will get enough from both stores. She has recovered several other pieces of furniture in the past. Just one more thing she can do.
Well, a few more uglies to get done before we leave,
Enjoy,
Jana
