SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday,July 25th
Good morning!
I overslept today. Yikes! Maybe I was tired. On the spur of the moment yesterday we invited another couple for spaghetti and cribbage. I know spaghetti is his favorite. They accepted and we had a nice time and the girls won 2 of 3 games of cards, so all in all, a good evening! Now, I think now we've hosted every person we know so I can relax and let the house get dirty again! lol!
We did a bit of work in the woodpile yesterday but not much. Got too warm. I had some spare time in the sewing room so I started working on the last three Sue's that didn't get chosen in the swaps - Brazil, Iceland, and Egypt. I will finish the fusing today, but maybe not the stitching down. We are leaving Friday morning for two nights in Yakima, east of the mountains. Then we come home Sunday for two nights and leave for the ocean beach for six more nights. So I have have some meals to plan and packing to do. I admit, I enjoy the preparations almost as much as I do the outing itself!
CHICKIE - Here rabies shots last 3 years, not 2. I wonder why the difference. I'm so sorry about more chiggers! Argghhh! They are worse than mosquitos! Did the boys come back for the berries? Cows do love corn! We used to raise and sell it when I was a kid and in canning season they always got the shucks and the cobs. But Daddy always cut an armload of suckers every evening and tossed them over the fence. Like you said, cow candy!! Also we had a chopper and he sometimes ran the stalks through the chopper and fed them that way in a trough. At the end of the season, he cut all the stalks and stood them up in the woodshed to dry and fed them throughout the winter. Mind you, he did all this cutting with his jack-knife, scooting along on his knees, spending an hour or so every evening after work. How was the fair? Did you go or was it too hot? Congrats 50 years late on your blue ribbons! I bet your entries were beautiful!! You should have shown your decorated cakes, too!
BECCA - I'm anxious to hear what your blood work shows - on thursday, right? I'm glad your DGS is a "12"! But surely some part of his heart is still with the Carolina team. Who does he root for when they play each other?
IRiSH - so sorry the kitties didn't work for Jim. Maybe another day or maybe another activity. Can you take your own kitty to visit him? When my brother, Al, was in the hospital rehab wing several years ago, they encouraged all kinds of pets to visit and some folks brought cats. I guess it would depend on the cat. I hope you get a visit with Jackie soon. She probably has lots of stories to share.
JANA - Happy Pioneer Day (a day late)! What a distinction to be one of the original pioneers! I'll be looking for your pictures!
TINA - how is your arm? Are you behaving? I'm wondering if the wedding is happening today. It all seems pretty casual. Mike and Emily had a courthouse wedding with just us parents. I was Mike's best mom. Since it was so very casual, I just work a dress I had found at the Goodwill a few years earlier. After the ceremony, We were all visiting and Emily admired my dress and told me her mom had had one just like it but had given it to the goodwill! lol! It was 10 years before I could tell her the "dress story"!
CAROLE with an E - That's a bummer about 2 more aneurysms for Ken. I hope they don't give him any problems. Waiting on everything else, just like you are! I'm not sure what happened to Carol without an 'e'. She just stopped posting. I've often wondered and hope she's OK. And Lady Carol from England is on FB but says there she just got too busy to do it all. You would have no problem keeping up with me! lol! I assure you I'm not as busy as I apparently sound! Mostly, I just sew.
We have leftover spaghetti so that's on the menu for tonite. Also salad and watermelon. And there's one last piece of cheesecake left that we can share - if it survives the day. Sometimes Bill goes rummaging in the fridge so it might not!
What's going on your table tonite?

Good morning,
This afternoon is my small quilting group which I always look forward to. KEn will go to PT today and until we get back home Luke will be licking his sock on his foot. Lol. It is healing well. But would be much faster if he would STOP getting his licks in.
Dinner tonight will be a stir fry chicken dish with rice. Quick and easy. Better run and jump into shower and start this day.
HUgs,
Carole
Guess I am a the only Carole on for now.

Good morning! I overslept today, too. Now Iâm hustling to catch up⊠sheets in the wash so I can hang them out today. I think I met myself coming and going yesterday, but I made it!
We went and picked a pickup load of corn stalks, then came home and got the corn, shucked them and took the stalks, etc., out to the cows. It was as I described⊠all the girls around the candy bowl (the little trailer behind the ATV). #12 kept trying to kiss me, and Timi was rooting around for her choice, not letting me to feed her. They are all so funny. I came back and cut off the kernels and got everything ready for the freezer⊠only 4 quarts! Weâll go out again tomorrow and get more. DH likes it a little farther alongâmore starchy, but I like it SWEET. It will still be to my liking tomorrow!
MaryâI loved your corn stories! The grand daughters will sell corn up at the corner, but we get to go pick. DH uses a machete and chops the stalks off at the ground. If others pick the corn and leave the stalks, DH cuts the stalks for our cows. DS1 feeds the stalks to his cattle, too. They used to cut the stalks for silage (silos for storage) for winter feed. Had to be careful it didnât ferment, or you had really happy cows! Thatâs odd about the rabies shotsâŠ
We went to the fair, and I had about 30 minutes to check out the exhibits. It was sparse in open category. Two ladies won all the prizes in the needlework (quilts, runners, wall hangings). They had some lovely pieces, but again I questioned some of the judging. Oh well. Grand champion was a machine done quilt that had beautiful fabricsâvery eye catching, but a simple string pieced pattern. Made me think of Elâs pattern where you take squares, cut them diagonally and add a strip of latticeâSummer Porch. Instead of solid triangles, these were the strip-pieced triangles. Thank you for the blue ribbon commentsâI was just starting to do cakes then. I used to love the Swedish weaving. I made two blouses with borders of the weaving on pique when I was in high school. The GKs didnât place with their pigs, but they never really expect toâthey just want the money after the livestock sale.
DS1 asked me to stop by and feed the yard calves at their house and lock them in their pen for the night. Oh! They are so little!!! I canât remember when Pocket Lint and Blackie were so small!!! They have one black orphan and one white cast-off twin from DS2âs farm; they are basically the same size, and I was feeding bottles at the same time with them. So sweet! Then it was home to Blackie and Pocket Lint! I am the animal sitter of the family! Today itâs back to Ava, Choc and MaggieâŠ
Janaâthatâs so cool about your family being part of the original church pioneers!
Caroleâthat seems so scary to me about your DHâs aneurysms. I sure hope everything will be o.k. for both of you! Have fun at your quilting group! When Boomer had âthe surgeryâ, the girls at the vet said he COULD NOT get out of his collar. It took him less than 24 hours. They just HAVE to lick!
BeccaâSending up a prayer for your blood work results!
TinaâDonât sweat the dress issues. They only remember the bride. Iâm like Maryâthrift stores, except this year I did order a dress (on sale!) for DGSâs wedding. Now, Iâm hoping we donât have a cold snap! Slightly cooler than what we have now will be just fine!
Today⊠sweep the floors⊠baby bibs⊠hang out the sheets⊠unless DH strong arms me to go mow at a rental. I wonât bring it up if he doesnât! I really need a rest!
I made DH steak sandwiches last evening, and they were a huge hit. Tonight⊠must go look in freezer⊠maybe a pork chop if one is there.. I donât get excited about cooking in the heat. We still have excessive heat warnings daily, and it already âfeels likeâ 91 out there⊠Iâm sure Iâll find something to fix, just not sure what now. It will entail corn on the cob, as I saved a few ears for tonight, and weâll get more tomorrow. After all, it is SUMMER!
Bon appétit!

Good morning!
Oh how we have cooled off and it is raining. We were near 100, but today is Mary's weather, mid 80's with more rain and thunderstorms today.
Last night when everyone was firing off their fireworks, Mother Nature rolled in and said, let me show you fireworks! A huge thunder and lightning show. Sent everyone indoors and stopped all the fireworks. We still have a couple more nights that shooting off fireworks is legal. At least now the grasses are wet.
Dinner - leftovers from last night. The gravy was delish, so even just that over a piece of toast will be good for me.
Ordered several more patterns for my skinnies. Ones that Sarah missed at the show. The company is just south of me, so they should be here this week. One is a ear of corn! I found two spots in the house for my skinnies.
We are heading up to SLC in a few minutes to donate the tile that we are not using. It is from my house in California and is enough for a large kitchen floor. Stu hauled it all upstairs and loaded it in the Highlander for us. It was sitting under the stairs and in the way of the railroad construction. Michael has cleaned up most of his railroad area so he can start building -finally!
Time to go,
Enjoy,
Jana
