SUPPER CLUB - Monday, July 24th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Jul 24, 2017 3:15 am

Good Morning!

It's a gorgeous morning out here on our deck, though the 'river' of traffic seems extra noisy today. But the air is so clear and almost crisp. Sound is carrying , . I hope it's not fall crisp. I love fall, but I'm not ready for it yet!

Last night we went back to the waterside restaurant with our friends who are still visiting. The tide was in and the waves were lapping only a few feet from our table. I'm not going to post another picture because it looked just the same as the one I posted on July 20 for Bill's birthday. Those friends are leaving later this morning and then I need to do some serious laundry! It's starting to overflow the hamper and ooze out the bathroom door! And depending on weather, Bill may want to work on the wood. We've let that slide for over a week now. I've finished my Seahawk window banners and now I am project-less! I do have about 13 items on my list I want to do, but they aren't 'bubbling to the surface' yet. So I'm not sure what's going to hit my machine next.

IRISH - did you take Jim to visit the kitties? and if so, how did it go? and what did Jackie think of our part of the country? Your trip to Ireland is coming up, isn't it? I do hope you are still plan to go.

BECCA - I hope your knee eases up today. If it's excess fluid, maybe they will simply aspirate it?

CHICKIE - are you still oven-hot? How do the cow-babies do in that heat? Are you done picking blackberrie? Ours should start coming on in about 3 weeks.

TINA - how is your arm? Is Mary Rose still with you? How is Holly? Is she still getting married today?

LINDA - happy birthday a day late! You are in San Diego this week, I believe.

JANA - what are you working on today?

CAROLE with an E - Did Ken have dr appointments since last we 'talked'? How is he doing? And dear Luke, too?

I have a plan for supper!! I know we've eaten a lot of Italian in the past week, but DH never gets tired of it. We have leftover brats already grilled from our BBQ so I'm going to slice them up into marinara sauce and put it over pasta. We'll eat on the deck and enjoy a summer evening.

Wish you all could be here with us!

Good morning! I never made it here yesterday… I was dog sitting for Choc and Maggie, so 3 trips there take some time. I walked the noon one, and it was so hot! The temperature was “only” 85 with a “feels like” 91, but it was more miserable than a dry heat day. We had a 65th anniversary reception to attend in the afternoon, then back to Choc and Maggie. Some neighbor kids were picking berries, and I told them to come get the rest of mine. They went back home (wife is 8.5 months p.g.), so I went and picked them and put the sack in the freezer. I told them, and hope they come get them this week. Of course, my good deed did not go unpunished—CHIGGERS! So, breaking out the Benadryl for the fiery itch! That is the end of them. Period!

Today begins sweet corn. I need to put it up in the freezer when DH returns from coffee, has brunch and goes and gets a pickup load. Never a dull moment here! We still have excessive heat warnings, and it doesn’t look like that will change any time soon. The corn will be shucked under the shade tree at the picnic table. Then we take the stalks, shucks, wormy nibbles, etc., out to the cows. It’s one funny feeding frenzy. They act like kids getting free candy thrown at the Christmas parade! I’m always reminded of the Little Boy Blue line—sheep in the meadow; cows in the corn… Cows do love corn!!! Sheep can ruin a meadow, too.

Today: Ava. Tinker Bell to Vet 23 miles west at 4:00 for 2-yr rabies booster. Grandkids’ pig showing at the county fair 30 miles east at 6:00. Fortunately, their pigs are in the heavier weight classes so they show later—hoping this year will be the same, as we will be late. I know DH is going to want to eat at some time between vet and fair. These chores are in addition to the corn and taking care of the calves.

I hope to go see some of the inside exhibits at the fair. The GKs no longer belong to 4H (aged out), so the only thing they show are their pigs. They make some serious money at the end of the fair when they have the livestock sale. I have been disappointed with the “open” classes at the fair the last several years. It’s definitely more of a 4-H and youth fair than anything else, and it’s pretty much advertised that way. I never saw a call for open entries. Last year there were a couple of table runners and a few throws or baby quilts and maybe a couple of quilts in the open entries. I was real disappointed in the judging, and I’ve heard it’s pretty much “friends win”. There was a beautiful piece that did not place, while the winner was sub-quality. I was also concerned about the security there for all projects. The only time I have entered the fair was when DD was a baby. I entered her christening dress ensemble and several pieces of Swedish weaving on huck toweling. I won blue ribbons on each entry. It was in the county to the north where I lived at that time. Hard to believe that was almost 50 years ago, and I was 22 years old myself. I'm sure that fair has changed a lot too. It was mainly open classes then with all kinds of sewing, canning, baked goods, produce, etc.--the old-fashioned county fair. Now, I'm old. LOL!

Mary—I had laundry to do yesterday as well. I used the dryer as we woke up to thunder, but the rain was only a trace. What a disappointment! How neat to get back to the beachfront eatery! I can offer you several projects… be careful what you say! I really wish DH liked Italian better… sigh!

The calves are doing well. They go find shade in the heat, then come home in the evening. I keep their water tub filled, and they partake generously of it daily.

I got out my baby bib patterns and want to get started on those. Doesn’t look like it will happen today, unfortunately.

Dinner tonight… Since DH had a piece of steak left last evening, and we will be on the run to the fair, I’m thinking I’ll slice it up thin, slap mayo on some toasted bread, add a tomato slice and some lettuce… good to go. I’ll probably do a veggie sandwich for me.

Now—I need to go finish putting on my face. I went out and did the calves earlier, then came back and showered, got my coffee and decided to stop here first or I may not make it to the table today… Bon appétit!

P.S. I can think of nothing more relaxing than sitting on your deck with a glass of wine... ENJOY!!! It's way too hot to go to the fair tonight.

Good morning ladies,

Rainy day here in AZ. We sure can use the rain, and rainy days here are like snow days in Michigan. Lol Love it, and makes staying in and sewing a must. DH is off with his billiards pals and will be home after lunch.

Last week was doctor appointments for DH? They found two more anerisums (sp) behind his knees. BUT they are still too small to allow for surgery. He now has four and will be rechecked in 6 months. we still haven't heard anything about the kidneys and prostate. He is going to PT twice a week for his back. Poor guy is falling apart in old age lol but aren't we all.

Luke is still healing, but seems awful warm and quiet today. His foot looks good. So I don't know what is going I . He is eating good, so I will just keep an eye on him. Both my guys are having a hard time right now,

Dinner tonight will be hamburgers and maybe some potato salad.

Chickie, you have such busy days, I do not think I could ever keep up with you. I sure hope your family realizes what a hard worker you are. Haven't seen you mention your pet cow lately, how is he/she doing? Sounds like you have such a happy life.

Mary, you another one that is like a tornado, not sure I could keep up with you either.
Since I retired and moved to AZ and diagnosed with RA, I have a very relaxed quiet life. No business to run, no kids to take care of, just Ken and me.

Tina, is today really Holly's wedding day? Glad Mary made the trip to visit you. It will do both of you some good,

Irish , wow Did I hear Ireland ??? Lucky you! Who are you going with? Now I have to know all the details. Lol

Well I better get a cuppa and get dressed. Sewing it is today.

Hugs,

Carole with an e

P.s. Whatever happened to the e less Carol???

Good morning :)
I think the wedding is postponed a day or so, they don't have rings and when they stopped at the mall yesterday places were already closed. We've been having so much fun in this house that I keep forgetting to come post! LOL Mary Rose is here and we have been working on our Sue's and all the weekend going ons and Kevin and Maria were here :) we'rehaving good times and eating very well LOL
Tonight's supper will be fajitas and a salad.

Mary, I love Italian! Back to the wood pile, sadness ;)
Chickie, our humidity is awful this year. Yummy berries and how sweet of you to pick them for them :) now you're doing corn? ! When do you rest girlfriend? I bet the cows are gonna love their corn candy :)

I hope you all are doing better, I have to get caught up on my reading. Take care
Tina

Good morning from warm, muggy, overcast, feeling like rain, SW. Pa...How's that for a Monday morning forecast???? Sure not a good one for hanging sheets on the line.....

Mary, I had to laugh at your "Rockin Z's" yesterday...I think there is something rocking most days at the "Z's"...No one has as much fun as you do....
My little adventure with Jim and the kitties didn't go well the other night...He just didn't seem interested at all and I ended up taking him back early and then coming back to care for the cats...I might try again in a week or so, we'll see...AND would you believe, I haven't talked to Jackie about her trip and I'm almost certain they are back...One of these days, she'll pop in and I'll get to see all her pictures....From seeing the pictures she had posted on FB while they were there, they loved it!

Chickie, I think you need to take some time off and relax..I'm worn out just reading your posts...And then to get more chigger bites, terrible!

Tina, thinking about you, hoping everything is going well with you...This is the wedding day, isn't it?

Becca, and you my friend have me worried...Wondering about your blood work and your knee/leg...Just maybe you need to do as I suggested to chickie and take it easy...(I know, easier said than done)....Hoping and praying today is much better....

Not sure what's going to happen today...I had a call from my niece last night and my sister was taken to the ER with chest pains and trouble breathing...They did the regular tests, admitted her and supposed to be doing a stress test some time today...My niece told me to stay home and she would let me know what's happening...I think my niece was worried she might have 2 patients on her hands if I was there, lol.....But, how do you do anything while you're WAITING???

Not even thinking of dinner, but neighbor Donna snuck up a zucchini and I can always do something with that.....(I have a feeling, Donna, will be making those "midnight zucchini runs" through the neighborhood).....

You all have a great day.......

Happy eating................

Good morning!

Later today, I will put the pot roast in the crockpot for dinner later tonight. This morning I made donuts and they turned out extra yummy!

It is Pioneer Day here in Utah. A state holiday and I have the parade on. The pioneers arrived here in the valley on this day in 1847. They had been driven from their homes in the dead of winter by mobs because of their beliefs. My direct ancestors arrived with Brigham Young in that first company.

I will get out my camera and take pics of the skinnies that are done and see if I can post them.

I too have uglies and laundry to get done.

Enjoy!
