SUPPER CLUB - Wed, June 28th
Good Morning!
I am sitting here on my deck with the three Big C's of the morning, my Coffee, my Computer, and my Cat, listening to our tinkling fountain (and the crows - another 'C', I guess). Yesterday I did some wash, cleaned the trailer, helped DH with a few minor repairs on the trailer, and cut out 8 Christmas in July Lotto blocks and sewed 1.
Today I'll finish the lotto blocks, walk, chiropractor, costco, and make supper for my DGS who is stopping by after work. I was thinking of doing a little bit of weeding, too with the emphasis on 'little bit', but maybe not after chiropractor appt.
TINA - With all that's going on with your mom, I'd kind of be surprised if she weren't in CHF. and while that is pretty serious, it can be managed if a patient adheres to doctor's orders. Here's hoping for good news on Friday.
JANA - glad to hear Sarah and Sandee are both doing well. How was Sarah's 'procedure' performed? Abdominally, vaginally, or laproscopically? That is usually what determines the length of a hospital stay. Mine was abdominal, the most invasive, and I was in the hospital for 5 days (in 1997). We didn't win the big prize at our rally, which was just as well. I don't know how we'd have gotten that big smoker home! (though our good friends who live in LaGrande offered to "store" it for us! lol!) Plus, we're not big meat eaters here. So we were happy to walk away with a plush Arctic Fox logo throw blanket.
LINDA - happy you are home, but sorry to hear it's so hot and you aren't feeling well. Though I guess suffering the ill effects of the patch withdrawal would be better than barfing on the plane. Would it be possible to cut the patch in half so you could remove half of it at a time, thus decreasing the effects of removing it all at once. Or to use a smaller dose? I feel for you. Nausea is the WORST!
IRISH - I hope Jackie likes the PNW. Maybe she'll go home and grab you up to make a visit here! Maybe Jim's friend DID stop by: I used to work with a nurse who said when her husband died of a heart attack, her DD was in labor in Portland, OR. Four months later her hubby visited the nurse. she asked him why, if he could visit, didn't he come sooner. His answer was that they keep you pretty busy in heaven and this was his first opportunity. A few minutes later the nurse's DD called her and said, "Mom, Dad was just here! He said he wanted to know what the baby was - boy or girl!" So maybe we get visits all the time but just don't recognize them for what they are. Food for thought. Or a nurse dipping into her patients' meds. You decide.
BECCA - all your gardening puts me to shame! My yard overwhelms me. Do you hire out?
CHICKIE - you and Tasha are probably busy getting into delicious trouble this week. As long as the Double H's are fed on time, enjoy!!
My DGS works for our neighbor across the road - a landscaper. So when he gets off work this afternoon he's coming over here for supper. He likes spaghetti so that's what I'm making. With salad and garlic bread and Klondike Bars for dessert. There will be plenty so if you want to stop by, the welcome mat is out!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wed, June 28th
Good, almost noon, from sunny, getting warmer and darn near purrrfect, SW. Pa....Sky is a pretty blue, clouds are light and fluffy, everything that is supposed to be green and growing is green and the weeds are surely growing....The neighbor mowed the grass yesterday and I am so appreciative...But, I'm kind of glad Jim doesn't see it...They don't go as far into the extra lot as he did and it's starting to look almost like a hay field...What I should do is get a couple of Izzie's goats and they'd have a great time....But, at least the yard is cut....
Mary, Your 3 or 4 "Cs" sound purrfect, even with the crows....You sure got a lot accomplished yesterday, wish I did half as much...I like you had the abdominal surgery but probably about 20 years before you, lol...Always remember asking the surgeon (who was Asian) if he did a bikini cut) and the expression on his face was priceless...He had no idea what I was talking about and little did he know, there was no bikini in my closet...Needless to say, straight up and down, lol....I can only hope Jackie scoops me up and we head west....Oh my, your dinner sounds good, right down to the Klondike Bars...In this part of the east, our Klondikes were made by Isaly, one of the best ice cream makers around...They are also famous for their chipped/chopped ham...(none better)....
And, I'm going to claim dibs on our Becca, just because she lives closer...And if you'd see my yard and flower beds, you'd know why I need help, lol....Of course Jackie could pick up both of us......
Hope everyone is having a great day and doing something special, especially for yourself.....
Not sure what dinner will be and at this point, "frankly my dear, I don't give a "you know what", lol....
Happy eating...............
Will check back later..............

Good morning!
My girls just left and they loved the Santa Fe french toast and my orange crossiant stuffed french toast. Some were a little leery about the orange flavor, but tried a bite and were hooked. They are adding these to their recipe collection. Now to clean up.
Dinner - we just found a favorite food truck has opened a store front restuarant near by. It's a Korean BBQ that makes wonderful noodle soup. So after my class, we will go and get some. This is my last class on the new sewing machine.
Sarah's surgery was part vaginal and part laproscoptic. She is doing well today. Ethan is here and will spend the night again and tomorrow and Friday, spending the day with his cohort in crime, Emma. Down at Matt's home.
Party at my house on Friday as Daniel will be here. This will be the only chance for Matt to see his brother, as they are working up at Wood Badge Scout Camp for a week. Matt will be roughing it it style, with the new rig! He has learned to park it and gets it in and out of his backyard quite easily now.
Aaron will be smoking a brisket and I am doing the racks of ribs. My other girls are doing the sides.
Sarah, before surgery did up a dozen pints of strawberry jam for Daniel. He requested it, as his last year's supply has run out.
So time to get the kitchen cleaned up, it's not bad,
Enjoy,
Jana

Yeah, Mary, I am feeling better today. I left the patch on for a whole week instead of 3 days, hoping that it would wean me off slowly. Still can't eat breakfast but I was able to go outside early and start trimming the ground cover again before it gets too hot.
Yesterday we discovered a mockingbird nest with 4 blue spotted eggs in a bush right next to our people garage door to the backyard. I had just trimmed that bush about 5 days ago and it wasn't there at that time. So the birds moved in really fast. The mom and dad are really freaky and we are trying to stay away from the area the best we can, but they are in a very inconvenient place. I read up on their nesting habits and found out they incubate for 11-12 days then feed for 12-13 days before they fledge and fly away. I sat on our porch resting this morning and watched as the dad chased away every bird that wanted to drink from the birdbath. We can look thru the garage window between the blinds directly at the nest so it will be an interesting watch.
Meanwhile the demolition team is back to demolish the shower tile that was put up while I was gone. It looked horrible so we are starting over again. Lots of banging and breaking going on here again. I posted a picture of what I want on the mirror so they get it right this time. Am also still without a dryer, waiting for a part to come in the mail. At least the contractor was able to set up the washer and DH rigged a clothesline on the porch.
DH says it is thin pork chops, veggies and American fried potatoes for dinner tonight. Remains to be seen how much I can eat, but at least I can prepare it. Have a wonderful day.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wed, June 28th
Good afternoon! It’s hot and sunny here today. The wind is a lifesaver, even if it destroys hair and dries everything out making watering a necessity. I picked raspberries and blackberries after I fed the calves and let them out. I fixed biscuits and sausage gravy for brunch today. Normally I don’t eat them, but they were really tasty.
I’ve been picking ticks out of my hair since the berry picking. We didn’t have them until the white tail deer returned about 20 years ago. What a scourge!
Natasha and I went and took care of all the dogs. She loves to drive the UTV, so no walking in the heat… probably a good thing! When we returned, we worked on her art project that she’s been doing every day. She made a picture frame from one of the windows in her bedroom that was left after they replaced the windows. She scraped, washed, painted and antiqued the frame before gluing sea shells, beads and other items to the frame. It looks real pretty, and I think she is going to paint a seascape to go in her frame. Now she wants to make more frames this summer for gifts.
Oh, I had The Surgery 30 years ago—full abdominal bikini cut. I tried to get my surgeon to give me a tummy tuck at the same time and throw away all the yellow globby stuff that got in his way. He laughed. I thought I was supposed to get a rest afterward, but it didn’t happen. I was driving a standard shift car, cooking, etc. as soon as I left the hospital. They called me back to work after two weeks. So much for sick leave.
Linda—We had a robin build a nest right outside our front door on the downspout. She was very protective, and we gave up and used the back door along with the inconvenience. I’ve had Carolina wrens built any and everywhere. DH had them in a nail can this year, and he had to let them fledge before he could get into it. The year before, they were in with the gardening tools. He has several barn swallow nests on the fluorescent light fixtures in his shop. You may decide you need a permanent clothesline. I try to hang my laundry out as much as possible.
Becca—you can come work in my yard any time! It’s a sorry mess with the calves. I have a brown thumb anyway, so it grows in spite of me. I’d be all for eating out!
Jana—speaking of eating out… I want to be at your house! Brisket, ribs, Santa Fe French toast, etc… You really got my attention with the Korean food truck! I love pho!!! I’m too lazy to make it, but all the ingredients are not available here.
Irish—I was grateful for the neighbor kids who mowed when (late) DH was sick. They didn’t do the job to suit him, but I was thrilled. I never could do the job to suit him either. Goats are less discerning than the calves! On the other hand, goats love weeds and the calves only go for the “good stuff.” I hope you find something for dinner, although your cheese and crackers sound lovely. I like mine with dill pickles and maybe some olives, too. I like to buy different kinds of cheeses and crackers. There you go… talking about that chipped/chopped ham. Shaved ham is the big thing here, though not so much anymore. When my DD and I were “single” and poor as church mice, we walked to a little neighborhood store and bought 10 cents worth of “shaved” bologna and called it our shaved ham. We thought we were rich!
Yes, Tasha and I are having fun, and add Triple H… Hoodlums, Hooligans and Hubby… LOL! We are taking care of all of them plus the grand dogs.
We’ve been eating well… Monday evening, we had steak, corn and salads. DH and his sister went to town, and I asked them to get baking potatoes for me. They came back empty-handed. DH suggested onion rings, so I made homemade onion rings, and they were a huge success. Last evening, we had the rest of the steak, hash browns, corn and salads. DH has been enjoying the last of the blackberry cobbler, so guess I need to make more dessert tomorrow.
Dinner tonight I’m thinking will be tamale pie, shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes, cheese and sour cream.
Bon appétit!
