SUPPER CLUB - Fri, June 9th
Good Morning!
No rain today! yay! But showers off and on for next several days. But I should be able to get my walk in.
Yesterday I made four batches of strawberry jam. One batch was half and half with the last of last year's big blackberries. Time to start clearing out the freezer for incoming!
speaking of berries, yesterday we talked marion berries. Do y'all have logan berries? they are much like marions. I can't really tell the difference. and here we have three kinds of blackberries - the little wild mountain blackberries (the best!), and two bigger varieties, Cascades and Himalayas. ALL are thorny!
I also got my FGV quilt quilted yesterday. Today I hope to get binding on it and another quilt loaded onto the frame - the bicycle quilt I made last winter while in Texas. Plus my kitchen floor is a sticky mess, the laundry needs tending, and the bathrooms are requiring some attention. So there's my planned day.
LINDA - I was wondering if maybe you were out camping. and hoping I was right! Glad you got 're-charged'. Where in CO will you be going? My two sisters live in Longmont.
CHICKIE - your babies are growing up! Eating out of buckets all by themselves! What will they do next?? I hope iris aren't poisonous to cows! Though, they seem to know what isn't good for them and leave it alone. Back home (all of 2 miles away from me now) the pastures were filled with blue lupine, which is poisonous to cattle and they wouldn't touch it. As for tacos, we use flour tortillas for soft tacos. Don't like the hard shells either.
IRISH - You are on the road now, but I can still talk to you anyway. I hope your team won last night! Guess I'll have to Google them to see. Have a wonderful time with Terry and the boys and see you back here after the weekend!
TINA - You are wise to steer clear of your brother. Your heart is tender and kind. But just remember that scene in Christmas Story about how Ralphie finally dealt with the bullies at school. and they never bothered him again!
VELDA - are you going macaroni-ing today? Loved your quilt over in photos!
BECCA - After four batches of strawberry jam yesterday, I was getting tired of thinking of you!! lol!
JANA - good luck learning all the computerized facets of your new machine!
Tonite's supper is going to be chicken fajitas. and watermelon. The chicken is already cooked and the watermelon is already cut up. All that's left is to wash, cut, and saute the veggies. Easy peasy!

Good morning
Mary, I'll have to go re watch and see, I'm not remembering that scene. Yummy strawberry jam! I really appreciate you and Becca sharing your rain
since I asked you to I think we've gotten 6 rains! Thank you both!
I made that strawberry pie last night Becca, so yummy and not a heavy dessert, very cool and refreshing!
Irish, have fun!
Chickie, how is Black Jackie doing? Wonder if your DGD or was it DGS taking care of that one is having the same fun as you?
I'm sitting out back watching Frankie clean the filters on the pond, very yucky after only 5 1/2 days! But that's good that they're doing their job.
For tacos here: floor tortillas are called burritos and corn tortillas are called tacos. Corn rituals you can do did either hard or soft, I do mine somewhere in the middle
I use corn tortillas for tostadas and they are done crispy hard.
Speaking of tostadas that's what's for supper here
Mom ate good yesterday! Dad said she's getting more with it with every meal
she was really out of it not eating. ... I'm pretty sure she weighs about 90 pounds. Her Dr called me yesterday and told me how good she ate and that she's becoming more alert and making since. Good news. Hopefully she'll start her therapy and get well now. We're going to visit tomorrow.

Good morning! It’s going to be HOT and clear here for the next several days. It’s good for the wheat harvest.
Today I plan to work on calligraphy and Sunbonnet Sue-Canada… that’s my plan. With DH, it’s always subject to change.
I only have the two kinds of blackberries—wild with thorns and thornless. DH acquired the thornless ones at one of the Amish auctions a few years ago. They are really flavorful and so much easier to pick. One berry is equal to about 3 of the wild ones and some years equal to four of them. The tick factor is the best reason to have the thornless berries—FEW! When I picked wild blackberries, I had almost as many ticks as berries, and that doesn’t count those chiggers which don’t spread disease, but their itch makes me suicidal. Once I had chigger bites over 80% of my body stacked on top of each other. I had to go to the doctor. That was the most expensive, miserable blackberry cobbler I ever made—tasty, but it was years before I ever went to the country and picked again… when I moved over here 30 years later! I will trade less flavor for less ticks and chiggers ANY day!!!
I don’t think we have logan berries here—at least not on the farm. We have a little of the blue lupine—beautiful, and you’re right, the cows don’t mess with it. They don’t eat daffodils, either. The deer and rodents leave daffodils alone. My hosta, at least one of them, has had a major trim back courtesy of Blackie and Pocket Lint.
The calves did real well eating by themselves last evening, but this morning Blackie had forgotten and had to be helped with my fingers down in her bucket to suck on. Every day is a new day!
Irish—have a wonderful trip!!!
Tina—hope you have a better day!
Jana—new machines come with new features and for me brain dead moments. Enjoy!
Vel—hope your deep well is full!
Becca—I’m supposed to have ever-bearing strawberries, but I think it gets too hot and they quit. Mom sure enjoyed them.
Dinner tonight… meatloaf. I don’t know why, but I’m really wanting meatloaf. It’s been ages since I made one. Wish me luck that I remember. There will be some potatoes on the side—maybe scalloped and a salad. DH has cobbler, and I have pineapple for afters.
Bon appétit!

Good morning, Tina—you snuck in there on me.
I haven’t been over to see Black Jackie. DGD has had bucket calves for 4H for six years, so to her it’s old hand and probably more of a chore than fun now that she’s too old to show a calf. I’m sure she will be well cared for, as her parents will watch as well.
That’s great news about your mom. When she doesn’t eat, her brain also starves, and she won’t make sense. The brain uses more calories per day than many other organs. When MIL wouldn’t eat, she really got crazy, too. Have a good visit with her—hope she’s had an attitude adjustment!
I like all of the tortillas… flour and corn and made “however”! I wish DH liked Mexican food better. I slip it in whenever I can, but he hates to go out to a Mexican restaurant for some reason.

Hello everyone,sunny here .
Maryz All that jam will be yummy.Sorry you had to think of me so much.lol
Maryz We only have wild blackberries, strawberries, dew berries that grow wild. Some blueberries but very scarce.DGS told me about all your Berries and their size.Said I would go wild out there.
Chickie I don't do ticks. If they were there I wouldn't pick. After my DS having spotted fever.I run from them.My Mom & Dad had the tame blackberries too..My Mom used to pick wild strawberries when I was a child. They were tiny but oh so sweet.Guess with a family to feed she got whatever was there.Im coming for cobbler very soon.My fav.other than strawberries. And corn on the cob too.I made a good country girl.Still am.
Tina Hope you get all the gizmos figured out on new machine.Great news on Mom.I too was thinking with no energy for brain she was out of her mind.Hope she continues to improve.
Linda I thought you were camping.Have a good safe trip.
Irish I know you're happy today.Enjoy your time with family. What part of NC are you in?
Yesterday was one to forget.I FINALLY got my med for UTI.I was up 6 times nite before.Felt like camping in bathroom.Going to rest today .
Will make meat load if up to it,Otherwise a sandwich. Becca

Good morning!
Beautiful and warm here, windy too.
Irish's team was winning last night - 6 to nothing in the last period of play. That is a very unusually high number of goals in a hockey game. That will put her Penquins up 3 - 2 in the best of seven series.
Mary - I need to make a couple of batches of strawberry jam too. My favorite berry for pie is really hard to find - boysenberries. Similar to a blackberry, but is a hybrid of two different. I think blackberry and a raspberry - but don't quote me.
Dinner - humm - I need a run to the grocery, in need of fresh veggies. A chef's salad sounds pretty good for the warm weather we are having.
Time to scoot,
Enjoy,
Jana
