SUPPER CLUB - Wed, June 7th
Good Morning,
What a great day at the LQS sale yesterday! I stocked up on everything I needed and much that I didn't! At an average of $5/yd I couldn't just leave it there for strangers now, could I? Now I have to wash it all. I don't enjoy that part of fabric shopping. The shop always has 3 cutting stations and there were long lines at each. I always do my own folding and it goes much more quickly than waiting for the cutter to do all the folding for you. It was more crowded than I've ever seen it and a few people weren't very nice, unwilling to share bolts or even the aisles. But for the most part, it's a carnival atmosphere and everyone helps everyone else and friendships are forged in the long waiting lines.
Today - washing fabric, stacking wood, and reading. Bill got all the brakes done on the trailer so I can go in now. Starting to pack up some items but it's a little early to pack most. Like clothes (still wearing them!) and perishable food. Then we have dinner at friends who live near here on Fox Island. It should be warm enough to sit out on their deck and sip a glass of chardonnay. They are so nice because they always invite Scottie, too. A nice cap to a run of nice weather. We'll be cool and showery after today.
BECCA - I know we don't have a Shoney's either but aren't they kind of like Denny's - a family restaurant? That pie you described is like the recipe I have. Though I haven't made it in years.
TINA - I'm so proud of you and your dad, providing a united front against your mom. I predict that it is going to be a rough 25 days for you, your dad, and the staff, but at least your mom is where she needs to be. And when she starts to get argumentative, you simply leave for the day. Negative reinforcement. With her audience gone she will eventually get the idea and I predict within a week her behavior will change, at least while she is in there. And she can't leave without a vehicle/driver, so YOU hold that power. As you should!
IRISH - you have some exciting times ahead for your family! Congratulations to Nick! and how fun for you to get to go to his graduation! and fun for him to have a new car! And I hope you get the announcement you are waiting for soon. If it doesn't come after Casey's birthday, you may have to do the 'dirty work' yourself! lol! Rooting for your Penguins!
CHICKIE - your calf babies seem to be thriving even though most of their milk is going on you! lol! I guess they will do OK when you finally get them weaned. and I LOVE the name Black Jack for the newest baby. Or will it be Black Jackie?
JANA - no, I didn't leave much fabric for anyone else! Except one lady - wow! She made me look like a piker! She had three stacks of bolts, each about 3 feet high. I would REALLY hate to be having to wash all HER fabric!
I picked up some groceries on the way home yesterday so we had corn on the cob and macaroni salad with our burgers last night. And marionberry pie. A feast, I tell you!!
Tonite at our friends, last I heard it was going to be short ribs. But it could be a surprise.
wishing us all a savory supper!

Good morning! Life on the farm is never dull. Can you handle one more farm story? Last night I was changing into my “milk” clothes to go feed the calves around 7:00. I kept hearing something outside that sounded like anguish—maybe something trapped… I got my clothes on and investigated. I looked on the porch… nothing. Nothing was trapped under the porch. I heard the cry again and looked up into the small trees at the edge of the pond dam. At first I thought I saw a white egret. I looked more closely, and it was a white peafowl!!! It was so elegant with the “crown”/comb, snowy white and like a regal queen. I hurried back in to call DH to come and look… now!!! He was amazed! Then I heard more calls and knew it wasn’t from her. It turned out to be two of the purple/turquoise traditional peafowl walking across the dam to the white one. We watched them for awhile, and then the white one flew down. The three of them walked back across the dam, and I heard the beating of wings. I couldn’t see, and I assumed they left or flew up into trees for roosting. Anyway, I haven’t seen or heard them today, and I’ve been looking and listening. They are not native, and we figure they must be juveniles that have escaped from someone’s facility. I don’t know of any in the area. It was a fun sighting last night. Funny thing is: we were supposed to be at an Audubon meeting but didn’t go because I was dog sitting and calf feeding.
I truly hope you really do like the farm stories. As a city girl, I’m still in awe of all that happens here. My moon flowers are blooming now, and they are creamy luminescence with their 8” blooms in the moonlight.
Mary—what a fabulous shopping experience! It’s too bad there are people who get nasty in those lines—impatient, unwilling to share… I’ve found that generally quilters are a gregarious group and make waiting in line lots of fun. Sounds like you will have a fun day and evening! Wow! That one lady had a LOT of fabric!!!
What are marionberries?
I also thought of Black Jackie since she’s a heifer. The name is always subject to change. She once had a dog named Chloe Angel.
Oh, this morning, DH helped me get Pocket Lint outside of the pen and Blackie staying in the pen. We put the milk pails out and let the calves have at them on their own… success! Blackie decided she could eat on her own without fingers and sucked it right down! Feeding should get better now. I knew Lint would do it, as she always does in the morning. Evenings she returns to being a big baby.
To keep the calves out of his watermelon patch, DH put a gate across where he drives the tractor and mower. I told him they would go around through the ravine, but he poo-poohed my prediction. Well... yesterday we returned and went to check cows. We looked over at the watermelon patch, and guess what critters were grazing around the sides in the grass...
Yesterday DH had some errands in town, so I rode along and had him drop me off at Mom's. He didn't get the mower fixed or find his renter, but I cut 2.5" strips for Mom for her baby quilt. She was really happy I dropped in and was of help to her. She has a difficult time getting enough pressure to cut with her rotary cutter and likes me to help.
Dinner tonight: DH has some “mystery meat” from the cookout the other evening. I won’t be touching it! I’ll have something with tomatoes and an avocado. We also have some potato salad and lettuce salad makings as well as cobbler. You can bet my DH will not be starving!
Bon appétit!

Good morning
Mary, what a day but I bet it was the most fun!
Becca, that's where I used to eat that pie, Shoney's! I lived eating there every trip to see my grandparents and all my aunt's and uncles! If you have the recipe I sure would love it!
Chickie, awww the babies are growing up, eating on their own. ...a glad sad time.
My heart is pretty beat up this morning from my older brother last night. Frankie told me to quit talking to him but I didn't
he said I should be over with Mom all day every day because after all I don't work and he doubts she's going to make it out of there and I'll regret not spending more time with her and I should just charge all the gas and food everyday whether we can afford it or not because she's gonna die and on and on. I told him I do the best I can and it takes me a few days for my legs to get over a trip but I'm a bad daughter and I'm going to regret it. I got 3 hours sleep last night because all that was on rewind and I couldn't shut it off. ..it still is playing ugh.
I think we're having pork chops for supper.
Tina

Good afternoon from a dreary, sunless, chilly, Sw. Pa...Getting just a bit upset with Mother Nature!
This will be a quickie...I had just about finished a nice long post and my screen turned black and the message is now floating in space somewhere....
Becca, I also was sending you a message and that also went into space...But, I will be using that recipe this afternoon and will, hopefully, be able to send you a message later.....
Today is kind of an inside day...Doing Jim's laundry and just getting things in order and trying to find the top of this desk...Finally got a bill from my "vacation" in the hospital...Around here, insurances don't allow patients to be admitted, so I was there, using their bed and being cared for but only under observation...Of course I didn't know this until I was being discharged and kept thinking, I would really be getting a whopper of a bill....Well, it came yesterday, ready for this????? $14.61, I can't believe it and I'm going to hurry and pay it before they change their mind.....
And on that happy note, I'm off to accomplish something....I'm still working on my leftovers so my dinner is already made....
You all have a great day, hopefully will catch up with you all soon......

Good afternoon!
Been sewing with my girls and I thought I would be helpful before they came this morning. So I sewed and cut some of the strips/blocks. Thought I remembered the measurement for the block to be cut at. NOPE! At least I cut them all too big, so I frogged and now have them to the right size. There are days!l
Ethan is here today. My class on my Ruby is this afternoon. So the Highlander might just pull a Irish on the way home for dinner. Class is over at dinnertime.
My niece's surgery was this morning and all went well. She will stay overnight and be home sometime tomorrow. On Friday, while her husband is at work, I will walk over to her house and spend the day with her.
Mary - enjoy all that hew fabric - I am only a prewasher if it is a color I think will run.
Chickie - your calves are just like my Gracie on the camping trip last weekend. The little pavillion area had a gate with a latch, she couldn't reach. But anytime one of the others left that gate open, Gracie would be on the other side faster than greased lightning!
Becca - in California, we had a brand, Maries, that made the strawberry jell used in a fresh strawberry pie. Made it really easy to make one. Here, I can't get that, so I need to make my own. That pie is a favorite.
Irish - it will get warm - I have seen it! Pay that bill fast! It was a steal!
Tina - doing what's best for you is what you do! I have a brother that could be your brother's clone. Living in California with my mom in a care facility here in Utah took a lot of travel on my part to make that trip every few weeks. I was told that I needed to be here more often by him. He lived right here and couldn't be bothered to visit. You have a family that you care for, so do what you know is best for you and them.
Well, time to feed the hungry termite, called Ethan.
Enjoy!
Jana
