SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, June 6th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Jun 06, 2017 2:08 am

Good Morning!

The birds are in fine feddle this morning. I had a nightmare that I was in the Nevada desert and there was a grizzly after me. So I was awake EARLY and got to hear all the birds wake up. Sounds like there is a nest of babies right outside our window! And they start demanding their breakfast about 3:45am.

Today starts the semi-annual week-long sale at my favorite LQS in Tacoma. Her regular prices are about 20% lower than other shops and she has 40% off EVERYTHING all week long so it is a significant savings. I will be there as soon as the door opens! I need 30's backing for my FGV, some shades of gray to black for Labrynth Walk that I hope to do one day, (you can Google that if you wish), and I need some purple and gold for Chriss's next swap. That's U of WA colors and I want to do that one for my son, Mike. And who knows what else I'll find. Fortunately, I'm married to a man who, when it comes to fabric, believes I should shop early and shop often.

I'm sure when I get home, we'll put in a "wood-hour". And then who knows what the afternoon will hold.

IRISH - Irish Chain is on my to-do list, too. And I picture it green, as well. However, I think it would also be nice done in a variety of colors - say, jewel tones? Sounds like you'll be having plenty of tomatoes! Do you like to can them or make soup or marinara sauce? I love eating them, just like an apple.

TINA - So glad your mom agreed to go to the rehab. Though as I see it, it wasn't really an option not to. Like with children, give her all the choices and control you can - like which robe would she like to take with her, and what would she like for dinner, but she IS going to rehab. I feel for your dad. Good thing he had you for back-up. Given the state of his own health, his strength to fight your mom must be waning. How soon do you think they will move her? They better do it before she decides to put up another fight! I wonder what my DD uses in her koi pond. Hers is 4 feet deep. she has about 11 fish, all with cool names like Domino, Beemer, and Flash. And they are all fat and about 15-20 inches in length. No turtles.

BECCA - you bet you are the strawberry lady! At least in my mind and now it turns out I'm not the only one! Strawberry pie is OK with me, though I much prefer raspberry pie. Though I prefer raspberry anything! My favorite berry.

CHICKIE - I wonder if you just left the milk and went back into the house if Lint and Blackie would give it a go without you? Do you have those buckets with nipples on them? They may be worth the investment! Where is the new baby? Aaron's? What is it's name? Glossy? Bossy? T-bone? Some cow names from my childhood are Reddy, California, Missouri, Skeeziks, Pixie, and Mr. Bull Calf. Feel free to choose your favorite!

JANA - I'm afraid if I had a RR running through my sewing room, I'd be all over those tracks, creating villages and scenery. I could really get into model railroading if I let myself. and then my quilting would suffer. We saw someone here had a RR running all over their back yard. The cars were about the size of a loaf of bread. In fact, I think he built the cars himself. THAT would be fun!!

Supper tonite? If I stop at the store, maybe some burgers tossed onto the grill. It's going to be a nice day - 79* predicted. I might make some jo-jo's to go with. Or Bill might like a good old fashioned macaroni salad, one of his favorites.

Have you got a plan yet?

Good morning :o)
Mom is at the rehab as of 8 last night! Woohoo! Dad went and chewed them out because she was supposed to go before 4 and there was a messup and he was afraid she'd change her mind. He told them; you don't know how many days and what we all went through to get her to agree! I haven't talked to them yet this morning, I'm giving myself a mental break first :o) Unfortunately here Mom is in control, the Dr and hospital couldn't move her with our say so, it had to come from her. I wrote a book in sew in if you want to see what happened. It was such an emotional day that I was exhausted coming home and just wanted to cry when I got home but Mary and Chickie text me back and forth and I got through that part, thank you ladies :o) and then I got on this morning here and had pm's and good thoughts and prayers and it really helps me, thank you all!
How cool to build RR cars and stuff, I cold get into that too! But like you said my quilting would suffer too. I best just stick with quilting, I have a hard time finding the time I want for that.
We were the hot spot in NM yesterday 101*, Cruces was 100*! It was just me, I was holding all my hot headedness in and it rose the temps LOL
I gotta go see what I have in the freezer for supper. Frankie was a doll last night and threw burgers on the grill and he was happy with that and I was grateful! So tonight I'll make up for that and make him something he really likes :o) which is a long list LOL he's easy.
I gotta scoot.
Tina

Oh Chickie, I was wondering too why you don't use the bottles but keep forgetting to ask you!

Oh and on strawberry pies.....I love them but I've had them at a place that makes them uncooked strawberries with the stuff like how they do strawberry shortcake. It's baked pie shell filled with the strawberries in that thick sauce stuff with whipped cream on top! YumTYum!

Good late morning from semi sunny, cooler than I like, SW. Pa...This is June, right???I need to be in short sleeves and barefeet, not sweat shirts and socks......But, I think I did see, next week will be extra hot...

WELL, I did get some good news! No, no announcement at dinner BUT, Nick will be here next week for a couple of days....This coming Sat. is his HS graduation and Terry and I are leaving Thursday evening and staying until Sunday and Nick is riding back with us...Terry got him a new (to him) car and he'll be driving it back to N.C. It seems forever since I've seen him and I'm so darn excited....

Mary, I was thinking about you and Bill shopping at the quilt shop and kind of wishing we had that closer then I thought, maybe it's a good idea we don't...It seems, I've made a bunch of Irish chain quilts, mostly for wedding gifts and they've always been in shades of green...Maybe this time, I'll get daring....Have to find out the brides favorite color....

Chickie, I just saw, think it was on FaceBook, that a fellow was feeding a bunch of fawns with those nipple bottles attached to a board...There must have been six or seven and were so darn cute, with their tails wagging like crazy....But, it makes us all chuckle with stories of the antics of both you and the calves and we might not have that if you used those bottles....

Becca, I only expected to plant a couple of tomatoes but I'm sure, if they produce, we'll put them to good use...I do can, not as much as I used to but do love to make relish with the green ones...I could probably bribe my sister into doing anything I want with a jar or 2 of the relish, lol....
And, I thought for sure I had copied your strawberry bread recipe from somewhere but now I can't find it...If you have time, would you please send it to me or post it again....Hope your day is good....

Jana, a RR running through the house, what fun....I had an uncle (years ago) who almost did that...He had a couple of rooms kind of blocked off for his trains and it was such a treat to visit...He had 1 son and sadly, my uncle passed away very young and my cousin had no interest in the trains...Often wonder what he had done with all of them...Another uncle was an engineer for the B&O and would always let us know if he had a run through our area, such a thrill.....

Tina, so glad to hear things might be a little calmer in your neck of the woods...I just can't imagine what your Dad is going through but hopefully, things will be much easier for him....Your Mom doesn't know how lucky she is to have you and your Dad....

Last night's dinner was so nice and there were no announcements, just a very nice dinner...But, when Casey went to go to the restroom, Dan did tell me, he has a special surprise planned for her birthday in 2 weeks...He has a 5 day trip planned, starting with a safari type adventure at the Columbus zoo and then all kinds of dinners and other things planned...I still can't believe this is "our Dan"...The shy little fellow who didn't discover girls until probably his jr. year in college...He's quite a grown up, caring man....I'm very, very blessed with my family.....

Today it's throw in some more flowers (hopefully, I won't find more tomatoes on the back porch)and then visit with Jim...As for dinner, unless my sister calls and tells me she's cooking, I'll have my leftovers from last night...I had the pasta sampler and have scads left over, yummmm

Happy eating.................

AND, my Penguins lost again last night, so now it's back to Pittsburgh and home ice, where I'm sure they will do better...

GO PENS!

Good morning from the funny farm! It doesn’t stop… This morning I went out with my two buckets of milk to feed the calves. They weren’t there, and the gate was open. DH had come out with me to make sure I didn’t hit the ground again. Well… the pen gate was open, and the calves were no where to be seen. What a shock! Earlier, I thought I heard a calf’s “baaaah” somewhat nearby. I called, and they both came out from behind the house. Further inspection of the gate indicated the little jailbirds had broken the wires holding the latch and busted out of their pen. I was just glad they didn’t go down the lane and get on the thousands of acres of lake property! I’m trying really hard to get them weaned from my fingers… stay tuned…

I should have added more description yesterday… picture a fuzzy haired old lady on her back wearing cargo shorts, an apron and cowboy boots with a bucket of milk dripping on her head… It really was a scene out of a comic book!

Irish—somehow I missed you yesterday… I forgot to refresh my page and check for more posts when I went back to finish my post a couple of hours after I started. I would LOVE to have some of your semi-warm, semi-sunny weather! We are going for 87 today. I hope I could save myself if I fell in deep water, but I couldn’t count on it. I like a ski belt or jacket for safety. I know your green Irish chain quilts are amazing! Someday I want to make my DD an Irish chain quilt. I have flowers planted in molasses tubs (farm mineral tubs that are plastic and usable after the cows eat the minerals)—mine are bright blue, so I like your litter containers. What did you have for dinner?

I bet the fawns were cute with the bottles on a board! In the case of my calves, I think they would use that board as a battering ram with me as the target!

I’m excited for you getting to go to graduation and having a mini vacation! Sounds like an announcement will be happening in the near future, too with Dan and Casey. Go Penguins!!!

Tina—I hope your mom remembers she agreed to go to rehab, but don’t be surprised if she just said it to please you at the moment. Keep on her and don’t let her get her way. O.K. You are hotter than we are, but I bet our humidity is higher.

Becca—I prefer blackberries and strawberries, too, but I have raspberries as well. I usually mix them in the blackberries. Wish you were here; you could take home gallons! I’m trying to use up last year’s blackberries before this year’s come on. Last summer, every time I turned around I was picking another gallon or two.

Mary—I’m trying to get them off the milk and all, so they just have pails after the bottles. Actually, they are the kind that could have nipples, but we sealed that part. I’m trying to do the “walk away”. Last night, Lint got most of the goods as she pushed Blackie away and tried to keep both buckets hers. This morning I had her outside the pen and Blackie inside. The new calf is at Aaron’s. I think DGD is going to name her Black Jack, or so I heard last evening.

Supper tonight… some leftovers… I do try to cook enough for a couple of meals at a time—sometimes with more success than others. The pork chops and fried apples were a huge success last evening, so a repeat tonight. There’s blackberry cobbler as well…

Bon appétit!

Just thought I 'd pop by and ssy hi and that I have no idea for dinner in a few minutes.

Michael has been helping Sarah get the last of the electrical wired and breakers added in the basenent at her house. They need to get her DH's office up and running. Yesterday, the company he worked for, cut his department by 50 percent and he was one of them. He is working on the side for another company and already lined up two interviews for a new job. Sarah's current employment is enough for them to make ends meet, tight, but enough. Now, the kicker, Sarah will have surgery on the 26th to do a full hysterectomy. She has had problems for many years and the doctors feel this will be the best. Her work is mostly done from home on the phone and the computer.

So my June is getting busy, I will have Ethan and the first of July, my little Karlie will be here with her parents.

Still no idea on dinner, I guess out will work!

Tina - I am happy yo read that your mom made the right decision. It is hard sometimes, when we are no longer the child and are put in the decision side of helping our parents.

Chickie - oh the escapades of being substitue mom! Thank you for the picture of you, milk and all!

Mary - did you leave fabric for others? I would love to have a shop like that close.

Irish - my preference for a Irish double chain quilt would be red and white. Nick will be so happy to have a new to him car! Enjoy your visit.

Mother Nature has heat coming your way - we are closing in on 100!

Enjoy,
Jana
