SUPPER CLUB = Monday, May 29

Good morning,

For the first time in many years, Western Washington is enjoying nice weather on Memorial Day weekend. And other than Mike's birthday BBQ, we've done nothing but goof around the house, yard, and sewing machine, relax when we want, and sip cool drinks. It's great! We have a list of things to get done in the 3 weeks before we leave again with the trailer to go to our RV Rally, so we've been kind of working on that list.

I finished mending the quilt for my massage therapist. I can tell that he's been washing it with the burgandy quilts that he uses underneath it. On the pieced side, all the white was pink! But I always say I want quilts I make to be used. So I may be making another one for him before too long.

IRISH - our fur-kids know when someone is gone from the house and they can let you know! My special cat, Tango, mourned for 2 years when Roy (LDH#2) died. He was a man's cat and he wasn't happy again until we finally got Bill. And I know sometimes you aren't feeling your strength, but it's there. I know because you keep getting up every morning, taking each day as it comes, one at a time. You are starting to see positives in your situation. It's so nice that you are able to just enjoy Jim's company now and not have to be worried about being his caregiver.

BECCA - I love the description of your yard. And I like that it sounds like you are leaving a lot of it natural. Though, I know 'natural' also requires some upkeep! We have about a full acre that is 'yard' and the rest of our property (2-1/2 acres total) is all dense woods. I try to keep the big blackberry vines at bay and I pull a zillion and one tiny maple trees every year.

JANA - oh dear! What those kids did!! lol! I hope it wasn't on carpet! But he bought it to use and with five kids, this will probably be the least of the things that poor trailer is going to be subjected to! But oh, the fun they are going to have!

TINA - what's the report on mom this morning? Your Frankie seems to be able to do anything and everything! Your sprinkler system has to be a blessing! I'm just glad we have hoses and timers because I used to spend a LOT of time dragging everything all over the yard. When Bill retired and I turned the watering job over to him, THAT'S when we got the timers. lol!

CHICKIE - you are scoring points right and left with your mom! What tasty treats you are taking her! Glad the 'weather' passed you by. What's on your agenda for today?

Today, I'll go back to working on my son's quilt and reading his manuscript. He said to use a red pen and make corrections and suggestions. I feel like I'm beating up his baby every time I put a red mark on the page, though!

Supper - what to have? I'm about BBQ'd out so maybe I'll do something like taco's on a burger bun . . Need to eat up those leftover buns! I guess I will call them Sloppy Jose's .. . .

Good morning!

Today is beautiful. Warm and no wind!

We will be trying to get the pipe fixed - still muddy, but the water has drained out. Dragging hoses and trying to find the portable sprinkler heads we had that are now missing. We had them since we moved.

Our bbq was fun last night. Even my niece and nephew were there. The kids are all heading up Spanish Fork canyon this weekend to camp. Matt is taking the rig and the others have tents. My niece has a medium size motor home and they are going too. The campground is about a hour south of us. So nice to have such beautiful places to camp so close to home. The site the kids reserved is a group site, so they will be all together

Dinner tonight i have a pot roast for the crockpot, but may punt it until tomorrow.

Mary - hopefully that list isn't too big! The grands already love to camp, even before the RV and now all the new adventures they will have. Matt is planning when school is out to take the RV up to nearby campgrounds and commute to work from tbere, so the kids and Crenda have some fun during the summer.

Becca - wow one day and the house was sold. Hope they find the perfect new one soon. Your yard sounds beautiful!

Time to scoot,
Enjoy!

A very Happy Memorial Day from sunny, very pleasant, SW. Pa...We had rain during the night and early this morning, lots of rain and noisy stuff but Mr. Sun decided to take over and it's purrrrfect.
Next door, our HS band member left with his family and brought back so many memories...Was happy they had a good day for the big parade....I've always been amazed, the kids have been out of school and the seniors have graduated but those in the band all come back for this day...Gotta give them credit!

Mary, glad to hear you're having good weather and also having a "do what you want" kind of day, love those days....What a thrill to be reading something your son wrote, that is exciting whether you use that red pen or not.....
Oh, you are going to love this...I just had a text from Dan's girl friend and they found kittens living in their hedges...Dan already has 2 cats and I have a feeling, if it's up to Casey (DGF), there will be a couple more added to the household...She's off to get a trap and then 1st thing in the morning will be calling the Vet...I'm afraid to go check them out because I know, I'd want to bring them home...Did you check out that cat site I had sent you? (where I'd love to live)...
I am enjoying visiting Jim but just wish he were closer...It's not that bad, about 15 miles away but would be better if closer...I finally talked him into going outside yesterday...It's very park like with benches and tables and we sat and walked for almost an hour...AND, he even wondered what they would be having for dinner! They tell me, he's eating, everything they give him plus his Ensure...As Martha would say, It's a good thing......

Becca, I think having a lot of wild flowers etc. would be gorgeous...I have tried to get some started in the lot beside our house but I think it's too shady..I always carried a shovel in the trunk and if we were on a back road and see wild flowers growing,Jim would be so embarrassed when I'd ask him to help me dig, lol....Wow, your DGS was lucky with the house selling that fast..Going to be a busy time for them...I'm hoping Terry's house will go quickly...He's putting up the sign on the 10th.....By, the way, did your DGS bury that statue that is supposed to help sell? Our Kathy did and her house sold in 2 days...Need to find one for Terry.....

Chickie, my heavens you really are scoring big time points, aren't you? I always worry about you when I see storms hitting your part of the country..Would love to see you but not by way of a big wind blowing you east.....Enjoy your holiday....

Jana, really get a smile from your posts...Love to read about all those little ones and their adventures....I'm the hose dragger person around here but I only have a 50ft. hose and that's as far as I go...Sorry yard, you're on your own...Around here, all the lawn mowers look forward to August when the grass turns brown and they don't have to cut, lol....

Tina, I must have missed the posting about your Mom but sure hope things are now going well...Feel so bad for your Dad and you but will certainly keep you and the family in my prayers.....

Aside from wanting to go visit the kittens, I'm copying Mary, doing what I want...But, I am doing Jim's laundry, maybe doing my porch boxes and hangers and then visiting Jim....I have learned and the doctor told me, you don't work through the pain, when you feel the hurt coming, you stop...So, I keep a book handy for when that happens....

For dinner, haven't really a clue....I did stop on the way home last night and picked up a few things, came home and made myself a burger with all the fixings...Never, ever thought I'd be making just 1 burger but it did taste pretty good...Maybe I'll have another tonight, maybe......Also got some strawberries and for sure, you know I'll be into those.....

Happy eating.................

Have a safe holiday.....

GO PENGUINS!
I knew I had gotten a Pens shirt and finally found it this morning but now I'm afraid if I wear it I might jinx them so I put it on Jim's chair....

Good evening! I should check in here before I start supper. The dawgs were so good the other night, we are repeating our summer start picnic again…

This morning after feeding the calves, the hooligans and I went to the hay meadow and picked wild flowers for the cemetery. I can’t believe it, but I almost stepped on a wild turkey’s nest! They are well hidden in the grass. It looked either abandoned or just getting started as there were only 6 or seven eggs and they lay lots more. There was a lot of very tall grass that was FULL of pollen. When the stalks were disturbed, it looked like a smoke bomb went off. I had to come home and take Benadryl when I finished. At home I supplemented with hosta leaves, astilbe, daylilies and coral bells. I made nosegays of all the flowers and tied them with selvedge strips. I can’t remember how many I made. We visited 4 cemeteries today.

Yesterday I tripped on the back threshold as I went to hang out laundry. It was loose. Further inspection showed it was rotted underneath the metal from rain storms and no storm door. So… DH is working on repairing that this afternoon. As most projects go, this one is much more work and more involved than it looked.

While we were going to the cemeteries, Mom called and wanted 2.5” “muslin” strips. I was going to run to Walmart and get some and come by and cut them for her, but she called back and said she found enough to work on this morning. When I got home, I cut strips from muslin and also strips of white. Thankfully I read her mind, as she must have been thinking “bleached muslin” and wanted the white. I’ve been to see her three times in three days! I’m happy to do things that make her happy, and I’m so glad she is working on a project!

Mary—glad your therapist is using his quilts! I’m steaming the dawg buns here, as DH likes his buns “squishy”. I think he prefers mine hard, but unfortunately mine are squishy, too.

Irish—that’s just such great news about Jim! Sounds like he is thriving and enjoying your company… eating too—know you are pleased! You can enjoy your time with him more too because your not exhausted, frustrated, drained, worn out from the caregiving. Oh, if I were closer, I’d have to look at a kitty. I’m just not sure about the hooligans… Thank you for your concern for our storms! We really dodged a bullet this weekend. I guess east around Joplin, they had BIG hail and damage. Been there, lot’s of damage… don’t want to repeat! I’m cheering with you… or maybe not… don’t want to jinx…

Jana—I used to drag hoses, and I also had two of the little tractor/trains that followed the hoses and watered. They were so cool!

Becca—we do a lot of natural here as well. We have loads of Queen Anne ’s lace blooming now along our lane. I love it!

Off to fix those dawgs! Bon appétit!

Morning all:

Spent the weekend running around to Fresno looking for a washer and dryer that would fit into our hall laundry closet. When we bought the house 25 years ago it was no problem to find ones to fit. But now, it is a BIG problem. Can't understand why the previous owners made the closet so cramped, only an inch on each side to spare. And now these appliances are made larger. Finally found a pair (not matched) that will fit but our contractor will have to chisel out some of the wallboard at the back for hoses and cording, and venting and do some creative routing.

Fortunately, the contractor starts the bathroom demo today so I am glad we decided to check into the washer/dryer situation while he is here, rather than waiting until one of the 25 year old units went out.
They are covering the floors, bathtub and mirror with cardboard and butcher paper at this moment and I am trying to stay out of the way.

This 30 year old house has a history of problems because of "small town politics"....the contractor and the inspector were friends and so the inspector never came into the house to inspect as it was being built. Last year when the kitchen was being remodeled, my contractor found all kinds of things that would not have passed code. So I wonder what surprises they are going to find in the bathroom. I already hear them discussing that they can't get the hot water valve to turn off under one of the sinks! So begins the fun for the next two weeks.

Not much else going on, I finally got my scalloped binding sewn on the king sized quilt. It is going to take a long time to sew it down. This is my first scalloped binding and although I like how it looks, it is much harder to do. And, as most of the bathroom and laundry closet contents are stacked in the living (aka sewing room) I don't have a lot of room to move around.

Dinner tonight is DH's homemade chicken pot pies. He wants to make his own because the store bought ones are so anemic with chicken. Tomorrow is his last day to see patient's. He is both excited and sad. I am having to exercise great patience because his mood goes up and down within hours. This is really hard for him...he might have to admit he is getting older.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

**Linda
