SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, May 16th
Good Morning!
I learned something the other day from an article in Readers Digest. I don't have allergies, but I know many do nowadays. Probably allergy sufferers have figured out these things but I never gave it a thought. It said if you have pollen allergies don't use hair products, especially gel. Pollen sticks to the product and you have it up close to your nose - all day long. Also, don't wear your shoes into the house as the pollen sticks to them and then goes right into your carpets/floors. And apparently celery is a much more common allergen than anyone knew - raw or cooked, makes no difference. And it can aggravate other allergies. Who knew??
My DDIL just texted me this moment. She is an only child. Her parents live in FL and her mom has a history of uturine ca and now she has a large tumor wrapped around her pulmonary artery and is in the hospital. It's not looking good and my DDIL is very worried. She may be flying back there so we might be taking their 2 little dogs as they can't go all day without going outside. And my son will be at work. Emily is waiting for more info as more tests are being done.
JANA - the Fourth of July isn't far away! A little less than 7 weeks! You better start brushing up on your Karlie! lol!
CHICKIE - glad your mom received special honors! I hope you told her the corsage was your gift to her. How was the library program? Sounded interesting. And how is Blackie doing?
BECCA - sounds like you got to be in touch with all your family on M.D., even if not in person. Isn't it a marvelous age!
LINDA - we went to San Diego Zoo when my kids were little. They got to ride the elephant. Still have photos of my son, then 9, hanging on for dear life! (he's 42 now). I cut my smallest scraps into squares or strips down to 1". So far I've made two postage stamp quilts in just one year using 1-1/2" squares as my leaders/enders (aka jump scraps or 'spiders'). I figure they are 'free' quilts and I donate them. I keep them in a small basket next to my machine.
My DGS, Drew, 23, is coming for supper tonite after work. We are grilling burgers and corn on the cob. I'll make jo-jo's in the oven. He's fun to have here on his own. He's different than he is when he's with his parents.
What's on your menu tonite?

Good morning from the windy plains… Hold on to your hair, your shirt, your quilt fabric! So glad I didn’t do laundry today as it’s really too windy to hang it outside.
Mary—while I appreciate your allergy information… I MUST gel and spray my hair (see wind info above). I leave my boots at the door, but usually not my other shoes… dogs and DH do not, so why bother? Celery—I LOVE CELERY!!! Think how few allergies I’d have if I didn’t live in wind, dogs, dh… LOL! I’ll keep using the Claratin and Benadryl… and stocking up on Kleenex! Thanks for the info, though!!! I appreciate the thoughts…
My sister texted me this morning, and my mom is on page 3 of the Parsons Sun with my grandniece. My niece submitted the picture and the Sun used it, but somehow spellcheck messed up Mom’s last name. I hope you can follow this link and see her if you are interested. http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews ... nified.jpg
The lecture last evening at the library was quite interesting. There was a lot about Quantrill’s raiders, Jayhawkers, Red Legs and other Civil War vigilante groups and the history in our area.
Blackie is really thriving now. She and Lint hang out all over the yard area—the brambles, the watermelon patch area (not in the patch itself), under the back porch, sometimes under the trees and bushes in the yard… never know where they will be. We can leave now and not shut the big front gates. They are always in their pen at supper time. They know where to come and who feeds them! Last night I had a bit of a milk bath. I managed to make it through the gauntlet of both of them while carrying the two milk pails—think two 100 pound or more cats tangling and butting in circles around you as you make it from the house to the pen… I managed to get one bucket hung on the fence for Pocket Lint, but she wasn’t interested because I wasn’t there to “feed” her with my fingers in the milk to suck. I was trying to get Blackie’s bucket over the fence when Lint butted me from behind and almost knocked me down. The bucket hit the top of the fence and spilled down my leg and into my boot. It didn’t spill much—just enough to make a big mess. Finally I was able to get them both fed. It’s always amusing and sometimes precarious. I had a boot washing session when I got finished.
Mary—I haven’t had jo-jo potatoes in ages. I can’t remember how to make them. Dinner sounds good!
Tina—I remember watching construction with my DGS. They do love it! I was glad to hear your mom had a good mother's day without drama.
Yesterday I picked strawberries and made jam. Good news is the jars all sealed. Bad news is the jam is still “sauce”. Oh well, it will be good in yogurt, over ice cream, over pancakes, or soaking toast or biscuits. I do not re-do. It is what it is and that’s that.
Tonight will be steak for DH with salad and rice. I’ll have salad and rice. We seem to like rice better than salad, and the brown jasmine rice smells so good while cooking! I had never had a rice cooker and got one awhile back. After tweaking their recommendations a bit, I now produce some yummy rice! My sisters and I are having lunch with Mom tomorrow for a late Mother’s Day, so I’m taking snickerdoodle cookes for dessert and will have them here tonight as well.
Bon appétit!

Chickie, what a neat photo! Your mom is still quite pretty. Now I see where you get it! Beautiful corsage, too. ;o)
TINA - I had to go see what your 'plan' was for me. hahaha! you talk pretty big for someone who I know where you live! I didn't say I had NOTHING to do. I just said I was between EVERYTHING I have to do! And you made me get up and go count - I have 14 projects on my list plus 5 swap/lottos to put together. And there are 11 quilt tops that need quilting and most of them I will be doing myself. Maybe YOU should come help ME! lol!!

Good morning!
It's raining outside, well, more of spitting. The sun is trying hard, but the clouds are winning.
House uglies are caught up. So will be sewing in a few minutes.
Thought I would share a good laugh on my Sarah. Here's what her boys did for her on Mother's day - her DH took apart the vacuum and cleaned out the beater bar, so now it works like a charm. Ethan brought her breakfast in bed, his own doing, a half eaten, stale donut and Stu gave her a bouquet of used flowers he found in the trash at the airport! The flowers were a bridesmaid bouquet, out of fake flowers! Oh, Sarah has been laughing at this. I guess you could say those boys are very resourceful! LOL
Dinner - I may cook and I may not, we have leftovers, so there will be no one hungry here.
Mary - having grandsons over for dinner is such fun. I always tell the grandkids that we have a common enemy - their parents!
Tina - your house is like mine - cribs, beds, and car seats. I have car seats in both of my vehicles just in case!
Chickie - what a special day for your mom. You are such a great daughter and so lucky to still have her here.
Enjoy!
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, May 16th
Just finished setting up strawberry leather for the dehydrator. I used two different recipes and will see which one sets up the best. I did 9 trays of skinny strips of leather. Last time I did one big puddle on each tray and it was a mess to roll and cut. So this time I am making thin, long strips. Lots of prep but fun to do.
DH made chow mein with shrimp last night and there is enough for my lunch today. I love leftovers, he doesn't. He is on my $@%# list for awhile because of bad behavior to me in his office. I will be so-o-o glad when he is out of that place.
Last night, after dark, I forgot to pull the shade all the way down behind Speedy's tank. When I looked over that way about 9:00, there was big white cat looking into the window at Speedy. Speedy was nose to nose with him too, although he was frozen. He wasn't sure what he was looking at. The white cat kept pawing the window as if saying HI.
My sister has two little boy grandchildren (3 & 7) and she spends a lot of time at their house. She is planting veggies in their garden and interesting the boys in growing tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, kale, peas and beans. She told me that she and Andy, the 7 year old, harvested the potatoes this week and he was so excited to dig them up and put them into a bucket. He ran into the house to show his mother and all she did was get mad at him for dropping dirt from the bucket on the floor. He was so crushed and my sister could not say anything. It hurts my heart to hear things like that...all children's discoveries and excitement should be celebrated! Who cares about a little dirt. To further dampen Andy's enthusiasm, he wanted to make mashed potatoes that night for dinner and Mom said no because she had something else planned. My sister cooks dinner for them every Thursday night so she is going to sneak the mashed potatoes in at that time. All children need grandparents to "protect" them from their parents at times.
DH dropped his phone in the pool last week so this afternoon I have to go to the Verizon store to get a new one for me. Sitting in rice and silicone pads did not bring it back. I will give him my old one because he hardly uses it for anything but calling me and his sister. I don't want a fancy phone but I hate having to deal with the pressure they give you to get the latest, greatest. They are usually young and can't understand why us oldies don't want to be glued to our phones all the time.
Well, you all have a wonderful day. We are leaving the cool overcast weather we have had the last several days and heading for the heat again. Prayers to all those in need.
