SUPPER CLUB - Monday, March 13th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Mar 13, 2017 3:42 am

Good Morning!

We had a dry day yesterday! Hip Hip Hooray! But it's all history now! Sigh. But then, I guess I shouldn't be complaining to THIS crowd when most of you are in the middle of a blizzard! Hope all is well with everyone and the TP is holding out! (and now you know MY biggest fear!)

Yesterday DH and I did a quick Costco run for Chicken soup makings (seems like we live there lately) and a stop at ACE Hardware for some spray paint he needed and picked up a concrete birdbath while we were there to give my son for his birthday in May. Mike loves things for his yard. Finally, about 2pm, I was able to get into my sewing room and knocked out a few more FGV blocks. I love this quilt! For me, the funnest part of quilting is choosing fabrics and beginning a new project. And every single block is just like that!

CHICKIE - Thank you for inviting us all to your place yesterday! I'm soo glad that little Pocket Lint showed some improvement. Praying it continues. Glad I wasn't at that potluck dinner with you! I'd have been upchucking in the bushes!

BECCA - I hear you on rassling with a big quilt! My back also needs a rest after pinning Lone Star.

IRISH - happy that you got in a visit with Terry. What does he do that he can make business trips to PA? I thought he was a high school teacher. Why did I think that? I'll look for your quilt on FB.

JANA - you must have felt like a queen, having dinner delivered! That happened to me once about 12 years ago. My DDIL made a meatloaf dinner and they brought it over. And my DD made us a casserole in 1997 after I had surgery. Two of the best meals ever! I wish my kids lived closer. Maybe it would happen more often. I would like to be queen for an evening, too.

TINA - you were a busy girl yesterday! And here, after all the cleaning you did on Saturday, I thought you'd be taking it easy on Sunday. Maybe today. . . .

My SIL, Terry, should be arriving home tonite. She stopped in Idaho at her son's house and he is supposed to be coming with her the rest of the way. We will go over and get the house warmed up and leave a few basic groceries and a bowl of chicken noodle soup. I'm glad my nephew will be with her. It will be a tough homecoming for her. We'll probably visit her tomorrow.

So, despite having a big pot of soup in the fridge, I want to try JANA's chicken cordon blue casserole tonite. I think I have all the fixings. Chicken, ham, Swiss cheese. Make a white sauce, add dijon mustard and lemon juice at the end. Poor over everything and bake. Is that right, JANA? You have a few hours to correct me before I start getting kitchen busy. I want to make this for friends and drop it off on Wednesday as she comes home from the hospital after having a hip replacement (which is this morning). But I thought I should give it a try, first, before experimenting on sick friends.

Got any interesting experiments going on in your kitchen tonite?

Good morning! Mother Nature left her freezer open again… we are 28 (cooler earlier) with a 14 “real feel”. Brrrrr! I would have been up earlier, but DH didn’t change the clock by the bed, so I didn’t get up until almost 7—still first light here. I had to bundle up and go feed Little Miss Pocket Lint. She’s quite a sweetie and is eating good twice a day but not interested the third time, so I think I’ll just go late afternoon/early evening and have her set for the night. We are 99% sure she is blind. Her eyes are cloudy, and she doesn’t seem to notice anything passed by her eyes. She is recognizing me as mama and butts me and nibbles on my jeans and my hands. I guess we will see what the future brings… Meanwhile… loads of love going her way from me!

Mary, the next best things to having dinner delivered are getting invites to the kids’. I usually fix and take, but it’s still a treat! I’m glad your SIL has her son with her, too. It really is different, as you know.

Irish—always like to hear your update on the eagles. Mom told me that my niece had called her dad and said they found a dead eagle near Lake of the Ozarks (MO) that had been banded. She didn’t have any details, but it was 28 years old!!! I thought that was pretty amazing. I forgot to tell you about it yesterday.

Becca—so praying that all is going well with the babies!!! Best wishes!!! Know you are on pins and needles waiting, too…

I need to try the Cordon Blu casserole, too! Sounds yummy! I’m out of Swiss… That will have to be resolved… Mary—what, you—not wanting to experiment on friends? That’s what friends are for! Especially if it’s been tried and tested and pronounced “keeper!” by Jana!!!

I think I still have some leftovers for DH tonight, and I’m thinking guacamole and pico de gallo with veggies and chips for me.

I’m really hoping to find some sewing time. My room misses me. With all the dog sitting and calf care, not to mention Big Guy attention, laundry and cleaning… sewing room has suffered. I went in to get something the other day and didn’t realize Odie followed me. He got shut in for just a bit and barked to chase some imaginary thing with the other Hooligans.

I need to get ready for brunch here… DH had biscuits and gravy with sausages yesterday, and I think I can make that into today’s fare as well… I might make a mug of oatmeal for myself…

Bon appétit!

Good morning!

Mary - yes, you are right on the layers - shredded chicken first, the the ham, shredded or cut up, then the swiss cheese, then the white sauce, with the lemon juice added to it at the last minute, and the final layer is bread crumbs, i used panko, but any work. Bake 45 minutes, at 350.. make the white sauce on the thick side. About three cups of sauce.

Chickie - dumb city girl question, - can a blind cow survive out in the pasture after you have bottle fed her?

Becca - lots of prayers right now, wondercwho will be first, the little boy or his sister.

Dinner was very yummy last night. I'm bot sure yet about tonight, but soup may appear.

Enjoy,
Jana

Becca, congratulations on the babies, were all praying everything goes well. I did rest yesterday :) I was still kinda tired. Today Holly and the kids came for 7 hours but they brought that new movie; Moana it was great, we watched it twice!
We're having banned food, asparagus and coleslaw :)
