SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Christmas Eve Eve! Dec 23

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Dec 23, 2016 1:00 am

Good Morning!

I think I was sleepy yesterday morning when I posted. I have now vowed to always have at least one cup of coffee before posting from now on! But you all found Supper Club anyway! The day before I'd messed up and posted in the Sew-in section and had to fix that. Our darn dog wants out every morning between 4:30 and 5:00. So we are up for the day after that. It's a groggy time.

Yesterday was all about sewing for me. I'd run short of my fabric and needed enough for just 4 more 2" squares to make 4-patches for my Tennessee Waltz Quilt. So a few days ago I found a fabric that I thought was very similiar, sewed those 4-patches into my blocks and all was good. Then, as I finished my last block, I realized I'd counted wrong and didn't need the 'stand in' fabric after all. So I frogged them out to replace them with my the correct 4P's, but promptly sewed the wrong ones back in again!! So I had to refrog. Then I got a text from a home friend. This is a wedding quilt I'm working on. There was no 'official' engagement, but my friend, Marilyn, the prospective bride, was pretty certain there would be one soon. But my texting friend, Pat, told me Marilyn got tired of waiting after 3 years and proposed to him! And he never gave her an answer. Uh-oh. I'm hoping either he was planning a more grand proposal scene for Christmas or NYE (her birthday), or he just needs a little time to let the idea grow on him. But the good news is, the wedding quilt is coming along nicely!

Today is the day we have to fold up the trailer, hitch up, and take it up to the dump station to empty the waste tanks. We watch Christmas Vacation every year, sometimes twice, and I found a tee shirt for Bill with the scene screened onto it of Cousin Eddie dumping his waste tanks into the storm sewer, clad in boxers, robe, smoking a cigar, and holding a beer. Too funny! So Bill says going to wear it today.

TiNA - so glad to hear your mom is looking so well! Let's pray it lasts! Chickie is right! You are SUPER QUILTER! and I would add SUPER MOM, SUPER GRANDMOM, SUPER DAUGHTER, AND SUPER FRIEND! I hope your holidays are joyful with all your usual suspects gathered around the table!

BECCA - when are the twins due? I'm thinking you mentioned May at one time. Am I close? Have you made any decisions about quilts for them yet? I am excited for you!

CHICKIE - how are you today? How great that you were able to resurrect those cast iron pans! I would have loved to have had my mom's. They were older than I am. But somehow they disappeared when an in-law family member cleaned out my parents' house without telling me.

IRISH - did everyone arrive safely? Are they staying with you or with other family? I hope it doesn't upset Jim too much and you can wring every last iota of joy possible from their visit!

JANA - nice save on that fabric! I was going through my mind thinking how to punt this problem. Panels with wide ribbon? A shorter overskirt?

CAROL - How did your appointment go? I hope you are done with most of the work that goes into holiday preparation and can sit back and relax and enjoy now.

Supper tonite will be, I think, pesto pasta. I have fresh basil to use up and I'll add some little tomatoes that need eating, too. And a salad on the side.

What plans do you all have for Christmas Eve and Day?

Good morning!

We are gloomy and gray here. It was lightly drizzling, and I think it may be for much of the weekend. It shouldn’t be icy in any case.

Mary—I love the t-shirt! Those were such funny movies and fresh every time I watch them.

I really enjoy the cast iron. I wasn’t sure I could use them on the glass cooktop, but they work just fine. I’m sure some of the pans are pretty old. DH used to buy cast iron for Anna Mae when he saw it at garage sales, so I doubt much is “family” other than she collected it and used it. You can tell older pieces by their weight—old pieces are lighter. One of my cast iron pieces that was salvaged is a square skillet that my aunt gave me full of her fabulous divinity puffs over 50 years ago for Christmas. It's the piece that has the most significance to me. I salvaged it again when I came home from a week in the hospital after having my DD. I'd left it in the sink when I went to my doctor's appointment, and he sent me directly to the hospital where I waited a week before she was born.

I agree, Tina is all of those SUPER people!!!

Jana—I was thinking a shorter overskirt, too, when I read your dilemma.

Becca—I made coordinating quilts for my DD’s friend’s twin boys last year. It was such fun to make them. I know you will immerse yourself in your quilts again soon.

Irish—I know you will have a wonderful holiday! I’ll be thinking of you in your red hat enjoying your role as Mrs. Claus handing out presents…

I echo all of you with the Christmas wishes and thank you all for the gift of your friendship. Those are the best gifts of all!

Dinner tonight… I have some more of my SPICY Southwest soup. I kept adding “heat” and couldn’t taste it as I was cooking. When it got to the table with my bowl… it was fiery! But I like it!!! I might have to figure something else out for DH… maybe some sea creatures…

Bon appétit!

Good Morning!

Heading down to the Batt Cave to finish up the dress, then back up to wrap everything, make another batch of divinity, a batch of Santa's favorite cookie, chewy cookie, a batch of spinach dip, get my haircut and then sit down to rest!

Dinner is a meatloaf, and trimmings.

Mary - glad you didn't need the extra fabric, sorry for the frogging and maybe, you will get to keep this Quilt! I have one of those who is dragging his feet in asking as well, Daniel!

Chicken- what a find of cast iron pans. To have your favorite restored as Well!

Tina - you are Super!

Becca- you are a Blessing!

Irish - you are a inspiration to me for all the l8ving acts you do for Jim and your Family!

Well I am off to start my day,
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from dreary and chilly SW. Pa...But, it sure is warm and sunshiny in our house.....The N.C. troops are here in full force and it's absolutely wonderful......

Mary, I just laugh every time I think of some of those movies...Could you get us a picture of Bill in his Tee shirt, doing his thing.....That would make a good card, don't you think? One very, very good thing about the visiting dogs, they sleep late...Now if I could just get BabyGirl to quit jumping on me during the night and early morning, I'd have it made...

Tina, I agree, you are Mrs. Super Everything, there's not question about it.....

Jana, thank you, that means alot.....

Becca, Hoping your days are peaceful and will certainly keep your DB in my prayers....Our house will be anything but quiet but it's going to be a good "noise"...So far so good with Jim.....

Chickie, I 2md all your good wishes for a great Christmas...What would we do without these quilty friends......Sure hope you're feeling better....Had to laugh about the soup but maybe that's a cure..But, you know, as much hot stuff as you eat, those germs should stay far away, lol....DIL, Cindy said, when her DS, Michael makes chili, she gave him his own pot...Said it's so hot, it almost takes the coating off.....

Well, the boys have gone shopping with my list AND my Visa card...Hopefully they will return and my card will still be intact...We sat up until almost 2:00 this morning just talking..I still can't get over how grown up my "little boys" are and so interesting to talk to.....While they're gone, I'm going to get into the cookie baking....I still need to run out but, I'm thinking, since the store is open all night, I can probably persuade someone to go with me later tonight.....

For our dinner, I'm thinking, maybe sloppy joes and home made French fries...And if I get some of those elusive cookies done, that can be afters........

Happy eating..................

short break -

the little dress is done and ready for the handwork - just stitching the lining in place and adding the fabric rose to the front side of the bodice.

News flash! We're going out for dinner. DS2 and wife are taking us to dinner and a movie for Christmas. The guys are seeing Star Wars, and we "gals" are seeing something else. Michelle can pick. I haven't been to the movies in ages and like anything... especially chick flicks. Don't know where dinner will be. Depends on what town we go to for the movie.

I swept and mopped today and wore myself out. DH tracked in mud, and I contained myself from going totally ballistic. He's as bad as the dogs... worse! I can't shut him out like I can the doggies... they don not get locked out often unless they are total wet messes.

Our Florida hunter and his family are coming for breakfast here tomorrow. He requested my Dutch baby pancakes with the maple sausage, cinnamon apples and homemade maple syrup. Not exactly on my schedule, but they are nice kids, and I'm looking forward to meeting his wife and daughter. He's also bringing me some gulf specialties, air plants and Florida OJ. I'll make breakfast!!!

I might not make it here tomorrow until late. I have gulf critters thawing (supposed to be tonight), so they will make it to the table tomorrow eve.

Jana--sure hope to see a picture of the dress!!! I found some patterns the other day that was my and my DD's life in patterns. They were in a box in storage. We sure had fun looking through them when I took DGS's cookie last week.

Irish--I had the rest of my spicy soup for brunch this morning! YUM!!! It made me a fireball for working today.

Merry Christmas!!!

Hello Everyone!
If you don't make here in the next day or two know you are in my thoughts and prayers wishing each of you a Merry Christmas!

Maryz - All that frogin! You must have been glad when you were done. You really are getting everything cleaned for the holidays!

Becca - I read that your DB is back in hospice. My prayers are with you and your family.

Jana - So glad to hear you found the fabric! You were really lucky to find it! Sounds like you have everything under control. I missed my opportunity to make candy during a dry day earlier in the week and wouldn't you know it has been foggy and rainy ever since!

Irish - You must be in heaven with the boys there. You are an inspiration to me too.

Chickie - Old patterns are so much fun to look at. There is a fabric store in Buelton that makes bags from the directions and uses them. It is lots of fun!

DH and I have had a quiet day today. I really need to do more in the kitchen, but what I get done will be enough. I need produce for dinner Sunday and will get out tomorrow morning very early! Then it will be dust and dust mop the floors. I usually make pies on the holiday morning, but I think I will bake Saturday. We have been invited to a party tomorrow evening and breakfast Christmas morning after Mass so we are all set except for Christmas dinner and I am making.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
Carol

You all are so super sweet!
Sorry I haven't been around, a little too much going on but I'm thinking of you everyday. Hugs
Tina
