SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, May 26th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu May 26, 2016 4:02 am

Good Morning!

I overslept this morning and woke up with a very fluffy calico sitting on my chest staring me awake. She has her ways of dealing with me!

Yesterday I found a ton of treasures at the Goodwill! One of my best 'scores' ever! One treasure was 9 yards of flannel for $9, enough to back two of Tina's cancer comfort quilts. Also some clothes for both bill and me, 3 yard art items, gifts galore for my family, several books, some things for our trailer, and more. My friend found five dresses for her vacation, a wedding, and two graduations. We smiled all the way home!

Our dinner morphed into just the appetizer tray we set out for our company last night. Bill knew the man from working for City of Tacoma years ago - the other Doyle who actually looked very much like Chickie's Doyal!. Turns out, we had a lot in common, our kids went to school together, Doyle went to school with my first husband, and a lot of people I knew. It was a great, easy visit and we look forward to seeing them again. Plus they brought a wine that knocked our sox off! (that's the way to get in our good graces, if you want to know . . . just sayin' . . .) She (Susie) isn't a quilter, but her best friend is! I might be able to fix her . . .

IRISH - I guess your arm is feeling better! What a lot of work you did! Your yard will be a showplace! Good luck to your Penguins!

BECCA - glad Avery is doing so well! So, can your DD stay in the place she is now living until they can move into their new house? I thought she had to be out by June 1st. That's only 5 days away . .

VEL - glad your test went so well! Sorry acid reflux is such a problem for you. My Bill takes meds for that daily. ACcording to his doctor, if it's chronic and not treated it can also cause esphogeal cancer. Happy belated birthday! I knew it was your birthday but never got around to an official wish for a good day!

JANA - When my niece crushed her hand while in Alaska last June she had to wait for the swelling to subside before they could do surgery. So she, too, was splinted. So hard to manage while camping in a tent with three active little boys, so she and her boys checked into a motel for a few days while my DB and SIL stayed in the parking lot in their motorhome. I hope Stu's injury heals faster than my niece's and leaves no residual problems. The chicken sounds good, but I'm holding out for the turkey on Saturday!

This morning I'm putting a friend's quilt on the frame and will start quilting it with a freehand meander. I'll take frequent breaks to work on my Texas quilt and to start packing our trailer for our trip in June. And wash some clothes, I think.

We STILL have that monster lasagna in the fridge. We'll have that one more night and then I'm going to freeze that sucker. I can't face any more pasta. I think tomorrow will be something totally different like meatloaf and baked potatoes.

Bon appetit'!

Good morning! Well, I was absent yesterday from the table… no excuses… I made fajitas for dinner, and they were so good!

Mary—you certainly scored at Goodwill yesterday! There is one in Joplin, but not in Pittsburg. We go to the Humane Society’s shop and Salvation Army. I don’t find anything like you do! So glad your company was fun! Lots in common—so neat!!! Between Susie’s best friend and you… I think she might be able to be “fixed”…

We are going to the local cemetery this afternoon for a military burial with all the honors. A young Seebee went down with the USS Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor. Just recently his remains were identified using DNA, and they are having a memorial service then the burial. It should be super special. DH’s dad was a pilot in the European/African theater, and my dad was a Merchant Marine in the Pacific theater. Our moms both worked in the shipyards as clerks—his mom in Virginia, and my mom in SF.

Tonight’s dinner will probably be more fajitas… DH really liked them. Happy eating!

Good morning from another gorgeous, sunny, warm SW. Pa....
Thought I'd better check in before I get outside...The inside uglies are done, throw rugs are on the line and I'm on my way to play in the dirt....

Mary, My heavens Girl Friend, you really made a good haul...I really need to start shopping with you...That's so neat that new friends are really "old" friends and come bearing good wine, life it darn good! And you'll have Susie "fixed" in no time....

Izzy, nice to see you at the table...Now that you're retired, you're just lazing around the pool and eating bonbons, right, lol....But, isn't it nice to have your own schedule, do what you want and when you want....

Chickie, Your afternoon sounds very emotional...Thank goodness they were able to bring him home and give him the ceremony he deserves....
I was thinking of you last night when the weather station kept mentioning terrible storms in Kansas...Hope all is well out your way....

Well, my lunch break is over and I have dirt to dig and more plants to plant...We did the cemetery yesterday and at one point, I was ready to plant Jim, lol, but we got it done....Terry planned on tackling my list last night but got stuck in traffic and didn't get here until 6:30...He did say, when he moves back home, he will not take a job that involves driving through Pittsburgh....So, I'll probably see him again this weekend...
But, the good news, his soon to be ex has found an apartment and is supposed to move on the 1st...He's been waiting to get back in the house to start remodeling and basically, cleaning up her mess...She hasn't done a thing, says she's unable to even unload the dishwasher...BUT is able to jump in the car at a min. notice and go for hours........Terry said, he will have those locks changed before she's out of the driveway, lol....And then it will be he and Nick, thank goodness....

For our dinner, it's going to be left over steak, mashed potatoes and gravy for Jim, I'll probably have a salad.....There is a smidgen of the bread pudding left so that will be Jim's afters.....

Happy eating..........

Tonight, our Penguins will win and go for the Stanley Cup!

Good afternoon!

Tonight will be hamburgers on the grill and a macaroni salad. The kids work late tonight, so I will have it ready when they get home.

Mary humm - that dream - I was wondering if you had been watching the show Wallace and Grommit and the Wrong Trousers - laid track as the train was going or Michael thought it could have bern fermented asparagus!

Chickie - you should have seen me googling your town to make sure that super cell was no where near!

Irish - seems as if your Penguins could be playing my Sharks - the Sharks made it to their first finals since they were created. Terry is one smart cookie to change those locks fast.

Tina - prayers that the good news continues to happen in your eorld.

Izzy - great you joined us! I love adding to my spaghetti sauce - I call it doctoring!

Enjoy,
Jana

Thank you all for your concern!!! It's amazing how it has all gone around us recently. Right now, the entire state is in a tornado watch... EXCEPT for a cluster of 4-9 counties in the very southeast corner of the state... includes US!!!

We went to the funeral service for the young man from WWII, and it was truly amazing. I' so glad we went. There were at least 100 motorcycles for the honor guard as well as the VFW honor color guard. The Navy did a 21 gun salute, Taps on the bugle, and an honor guard of pallbearers. It was so impressive. When we arrived, a HUGE garrison flag was flying between two utility company boom trucks. Unfortunately, with the high winds, it came lose and wasn't put back up. It was certainly impressive. I got a picture of it with my phone before it came down. I was very disappointed that a ceremony such as this was not covered by the news media. I can't believe that a burial of a WWII navy seaman killed in action on December 7, 1941, is not newsworthy! One station has a "Heroes" section in every newscast where they show a veteran's photo. They should have been here. It was very impressive.
