SUPPER CLUB - Fri, May 20th
Good Morning!
somewhere I mislaid Wednesday this week. I've been a week behind for the last 3 days! I better get it together quickly though, because we have a big dinner with DH's family on Sunday - whenever that is!! lol!
I started a new project yesterday. A pattern I bought in Texas 18 months ago called Heart of Texas. There are about 18 blocks of varying sizes from 6x6 to 9x18. Each block depicts something about Texas. Mostly applique, but some piecing and paper piecing. it will be a challenge. But a fun project. Someone on the forum asked me to bring up my Vintage Trailers quilt (I had posted photos of it back in January when I finished the top). So if you want to see that, it's in Photos.
VELDA - glad you joined us for supper! Nice to have you at our table. I bet your family loved the pulled pork sandwiches.
BECCA - our CC companies are good about calling, too, if large charges - or out-of-state charges come through. We try to remember to call them when we hit the road in the winter to let them know we are traveling.
CHICKIE - yes, Montezuma's is a Mexican Restaurant. A pretty good one, too. I hope you get some good gardening weather today. I should be out in my yard, too, but the siren song of my machine is so irresistable! It's useless to fight it. But one of these days I HAVE to get out there. The briars and weeds are taking over everything!
JANA - such fun for Sarah and family to go over Tioga Pass! We've tried in the past and it was still closed in mid-summer. But with the drought CA has had, I'm not surprised. Glad you got your beam up! I do not want hardwood floors. We live in the woods and have a lot of dust. and have lots of hairy, muddy-footed animals. At least with carpet, it doesn't show so much. But with hardwood floors, they would look dirty an hour after I cleaned them.
IRISH - I hope all is well at your house. Are you getting ready for Terry's visit?
TINA texted me yesterday. Her mom is back in the hospital with nosebleeds and her dad was in too much pain to drive her so she went by ambulance. Tina was at home with Frankie, who is still sick. Tina, too, still isn't up to her usual snuff. Plus she was babysitting. I wish we could all send her a cyber hot-dish to feed them for a week.
Tonite will be a second showing of our sesame chicken and rice with sliced tomatoes or maybe a salad. But tomorrow will be homemade pizza!
Bon appetit`!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, May 20th
Good late morning,
Humm, dinner, means that people want food about 6 pm. Guess I will have to think of something. The kids are packing up the rest of their stuff and moving it to the storage unit today/tonight. So I don't know who, or when will be here to eat.
Matt came out last night. He had all the kids and they were hungry. He was - note the operative word was - to feed them. I quick made a batch of my cheating chili and rice. Logan had dessert already done, so we had a crowd for dinner. Never a dull moment in this family!
Today is my last day of Ethan vacation. He is missed, but will be home tomorrow.
Enjoy,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, May 20th
Good afternoon from a very sunny and very pleasant, SW. Pa....
This will have to be a quickie, mostly done with 1 hand...I've discovered it's almost impossible for me to lug a 40lb sack of top soil up a pair of steps without getting hurt...Half way up, kind of lost my grip and ended up against the banister...My right wrist and arm are the nicest colors of purple, red, black/blue and many other shades in between that stretch almost to my elbow....Right away you grab it and when it wasn't bleeding, I kept on going, but by the time, I looked, it was so swollen, I couldn't get the cuff of my sweatshirt over it...BUT, I'm sure there's nothing broken and it will get better, just very annoying....
Becca, sending many prayers for Courtney and that new baby....
As for dinner, not going to be much, maybe burgers on the grill....Terry will be here tomorrow and he'll be able to cook....
Have a good day........

Good afternoon!
Irish--hope you recover quickly! I need to be outside hauling dirt myself, but I came inside for a break before I get started. Do be careful!!! I'm thinking you should have waited for Terry! I get frustrated, too, not being able to lift as much as I used to. What happened to us??? If you have much more swelling, you should get checked!!!
Jana--glad you had an alternate plan for a crowd! What is cheating chili?
Becca--Best wishes to Courtney and the baby!!! You are right, the Hooligans and I were out walking down to Ava's and back. It's a coolish, overcast day and great for walking... except for the gravel/dirt road. The road grader was by and really roughed up the surface. I could feel every rock and had to watch out for my ankles and turning them--ouch! I'm sstill feeding the orioles, woodpeckers and hummers!
Mary--my machine is calling me, too. Maybe I'll wait for DH to return from wood cutting and get him to help me with the dirt. It hasn't worked in a week, so I think it's up to me. I have some begonias to plant there. I knew I smelled a Mexican restaurant! YUM!!! Guess I'll get back at it...
Dinner--left over ham and beans unless I can get DH to take me up to the bar for burgers...
Enjoy!

Cheating Chili -
Brown ground turkey or hamburger - add chili powder, cumin, large can of tomato sauce and a couple of cans of pork and beans - if you think it is too thick, add some water and then simmer for about 30 minutes.
of course it is topped with cheese, onions, sour cream, fritos and whatever you want on it. I leave it on the thick side for adding to hot dogs or hamburgers. Maybe you can turn it into Cinncinati chili by serving it over spaghetti noodles.
I kept it mild last night because of the grands, but the chili powder and cumin is to taste. My very favorite chili powder is Gebhardt's - to me has the nicest flavor.
If I had been inclined - cornbread on the side with honey butter.
To do for a crowd, just more of the tomato sauce and beans - really easy to add to.
