SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Feb 20th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Feb 20, 2016 3:27 am

Good Morning!

Well, it's official - as of yesterday we have blown the wettest winter on record record right out of the water - get it? rain is water. haha! Oh my. The coffee is too strong this morning . . . .

CHICKIE - you are too funny!! I read your "Pop goes the Weasel" comment yesterday and pictured a weasel popping out of a pie and couldn't stop laughing.

TINA - so what great Mexican dish did Frankie choose last night? They all sounded good to me. Did you make enough for tonite, too?

LADY CAROL - we'd love to have you come along to sunny So Cal! but then you had to go and ruin it all by saying you'd be a good girl. We want your usual spunk and spice! How was the massage? I love my massages. I now consider them part of my health care regime. They keep me going.

BECCA - I'm happy you finally got your heat pump repaired. But oh that bill! I hate to think what a new one would have cost!

Today will be a little bit of laundry, last of the packing, getting the house ready to leave, and then a visit to my DB. He loves being home, but he is still very sore. His Parkinson's has really taken a toll on his thought process and he doesn't verbalize his pain well (or anything else, actually). And his wife keeps forgetting to give him his Tylenol. So the pain gets worse and worse until by the time she thinks to give it to him it's almost unmanagable. That seems to be the worst problem he has now - pain. I feel a little guilty about leaving, but they have their son close by and a good, capable friend who would be there in a flash if necessary. So I hope all will be OK.

Supper tonite is with our friend, Warren, in the private dining room of his assisted living facility. Other friends will be there, too. We order off a limited menu, just like a restaurant, and the food isn't bad for facility cooking.

What's the plan for your supper tonite?

Good morning from, what is the start of a very sunny, warm day, in SW. Pa....From what "they" are saying, this is the day to be out and about and tomorrow won't be bad also...But, you know we get these little teasers and then the bottom falls out.....

Mary, your area is known for being wet right, just not this wet....This year the weather has been weird all over the country...Kathy will call and say they are having snow and we're spring like, complete opposite...Guess Mother Nature has her "days" too.....Hate to hear your DB is in so much pain but so glad he's home...Remembering to take/give pills is a big problem around here, also...I have to remind Jim to take his and there are times we both forget....Can you imagine having Lady Carol join you? And I'll bet, even though she said she'd be good, some of her "ways" would slip up and she would be a blast.....

Not much happening around here today...Just going to "redd up" (Pgh. saying)...Jim is hoping to get outside and do something, not sure what but anything to get him outside...I had a text from Jackie, Kathy's oldest DD and she and her fellow are in town for the Penguin game and wanted to know if we wanted company for breakfast tomorrow...Is that a silly question or what? She's our, 29yr. old, who looks like she's 12 and is a teacher in the eastern part of the state, Cari's older, little sister...
So for sure, we'll be watching the game this afternoon, she said, they will be sitting right behind our goalie..

As for dinner, I'm thinking something with chicken or if Jim gets the grill going, it could be burgers on the grill which would be great..I did make 2 loaves of zucchini bread so there will be afters.........

Happy eating.................

Hello all, cloudy but sun is trying to break thru.Mild today.
Mary thought WA was know for the rain.DGS says Spring is there already. He hasn't missed the snow he used to have.Sure glad DB is home. You can buy pill dispensers that sound an alarm when you set them.My Friend told me about it.She got one to do her eye drops when she had surgery,so as not to forget.May help with the pain.Worth a try.

Irish You are so right about all the concern over my eye.I checked & fretted a lot yesterday but taking a break today.Found a source inFL but cannot go there .Will read his book & maybe it will help.I am looking to God for healing.I read sometimes the scar tissue pulls away on its own. That is the miracle I pray for.It is just so risky. And we only have 2.My other eye is good.
Enjoy your nice weather.

I pulled out of freezer a chicken pie. Will add slaw & roasted asparagus.Becca

His choice last night was enchiladas and I do have leftovers but not for tonight, it's going to hit 80 in a couple hours so I think something on the grill and eating outside in the gazebo is this weekend's plan, could do lunch and supper today and tomorrow :-)

News Flash in the eagle world...

Our nest, near Pgh. now has 3 eggs...2 years ago, this couple had 3 and all 3 went on to grow up and fledge...Last year, there were 2 eggs and neither were viable and we had a very sad time on the nest...Hopefully, this year will be a good year for our eagles....Right now, I think Papa Hays is out looking for a 2nd job with all those upcoming mouths to feed, he'd going to need it.....

Good Afternoon!
Maryz - Would you bring the rain with you to Southern California? Everyone would appreciate some very good rain storms. Our rain totals are behind last year!!!

Irish - Hope the day is nice enough that Jim got outside. A little sunshine is nice.

Becca - I use an alarm on my watch to remind me to take my mid-day eye drops. It really helps.

Tina - Something on the grill sounds very good.

Lady Carol - You sound like you enjoyed the pampering!!

Dinner tonight may be dinner out. I have been doing spring cleaning here. I feel like winter never really arrived. It is expected to get into high 80's this week, but today is in 70s.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Carol

It’s 4:40 p.m. here, and I don’t know what I’m fixing for dinner. I went to the grocery store today, and I still don’t know. I’m thinking maybe fajitas or quesadillas…

Today was an amazing day… 80 degrees!!! I sat in the sun in my lawn swing… well, I laid and considered napping… I may have dozed off… so peaceful and warm and sunny… just a hint of a breeze to gently rock my cradle… Aaah!!!

Mary—glad I made you laugh!!! I laughed at your response!

Have fun with Warren and friends this evening. It’s nice you can get together with him. We used to take pizza into the special room and have parties with MIL. How nice Warren’s establishment offers menu ordering!

I had lunch with mom today… grilled chicken, walnut, cranberries and bacon salads from Braum’s. They are SUPER yummy! She is doing well. I had to bring her some fabric. She is making bags for women in Hati for personal items. It’s a project for my niece’s church, and she is making 50! Already she has made over 30!

Irish—Grandma used the phrase “red up” around the house/kitchen. I haven’t heard that since Grandma has been gone. Speaking of, my sister found a scrapbook Grandma made of Christmas, Valentine’s and assorted cards and pictures from the late 40s and 1951. What a trip down memory lane!!! There is a picture of Grandma cleaning a chicken in a granite dishpan with my middle sister looking on. She had an interesting (somewhat horrified) look on her face. As near as I could figure, she was around 3 years old. Grandma looked the same as I always remembered her… bun pulled back, a house dress and an apron. She never seemed to age much and always looked old for as long as I can remember.

Well, I need to go think of dinner…
