SUPPER CLUB - Wed., Dec 30th
Good Morning!
hey, there's no one in the Sew-in this morning - at 5:30 MY time! I sort of felt like I was in the twi-light zone all by myself! Usually there are about 7 folks already posted by now.
We did work in our firewood yesterday. We are about half-done, but the hard half is finished. Not sure how much we'll get finished today because we have friends coming for supper.
JANA - I had my eye on that crockpot before Christmas. But I seldom cook big meals anymore, so a fourth crockpot seems a bit over the top for me. I have a hallway pantry, too, and it's always filled to the brim.
IRISH - I know what you mean about it getting harder and harder to say goodbye to Terry and the boys. I feel exactly the same way about Autumn. Whether she's visiting me or I'm visiting her. I'm up to two days of crying now.
CAROL 7 - Would you believe that I just found a recipe in my big recipe box for pork chop skillet dinner? It says Betty Crocker on it and it's almost the same as yours! Betty copied you!!
TINA - oh, what a game that would have been to see it all the way through!! Bad FRankie!! I would love to snarfle your brother's Squishy Kitty. You don't often meet cat-men like your brother. But my son, Mike, is, And also Autumn's DH, Aaron. Aaron didn't know he was a cat person, but Aut fixed him!! My sister is even more over the top about cats than I am (if that's possible) but none of her kids like them. I told her she failed as a mother.
BECCA - congrats on your crochet moment of insight! I know you'll have a lot of fun with that new skill. Lucky you to have Christmas all tucked back into the boxes. We store ours under the stairway, too. This year we just HAVE to empty out everything stored under there and sort and clean. Not looking forward to that, but it's on next week agenda. Going to make DH help.
Tonite some friends are coming for supper and to play a game - Big Bang Theory Trivia. We actually won that game in our white elephant gift exchange and we are all loyal watchers of the TV series. On our menu will be pork loin - brining now in CAROL 7's brine recipe and will be rubbed with TINA's recipe - mashed red garlic potatoes, gravy, homemade applesauce, peas, salad, rolls, and coconut cake. It all sounds like a feast today, but you'll probably be reading the same menu for the next four days! lol!!
What are you feasting on tonite?

Mary, your supper sounds delish! How on earth could your sister love cats more than you? I don't think I buy that one LOL and I LOL again, none of her kids like cats?! That's just crazy unbelievable! My brother posts some crazy pix of his kitties on Facebook all the time, he's a proud Dad
Oh I remember Squishy Kitty's name, it's Toochie, not sure if the spelling but I wrote it how it sounds, Too-chie.
All of our leftovers are done, most are gone and the rest are going out in the field today.
Tonight's supper will be beef, it's what's for dinner
not sure what yet.
Tina
I don't like auto correct!

Maryz - No, I copied Betty, just added celery. I think I posted a link a few months back too.
Tina - My DH is over the top with loving cats. He makes up and sings songs to our cat. He waves and says hello to neighborhood cats. I just laugh. I love our cat, but not so over the top.
Today I will be making Navy Bean Soup for tomorrow. I have had the beans soaking overnight. I need to get borders put on a quilt and the quilt sandwiched in the next few days too. It needs to be done.
Becca - Congratulations on the Crochet moment. I need knitting lessons! I sort of know how, but get stuck.
I forgot to say we will be having leftover Chicken Parmesan.
Have a great day everyone!
Carol

Good morning,
Mary - I did good raising kids who love kitties. Even my boys, but my DDILs are not. One dislikes all animals around her, passed that on to their kids. But Grandma persevered and now all of those grands will come and pet Perry. There was a time that even if Perry walked in the room, they were terrified and screamed. The other DDIL is a dog fan, but she does like kitties.
Becca - I too need to learn to read crochet patterns. I can handle any other patterns, but crochet or knitting give me fits. Stick to it!
Tina - watch out - my snow my reach you! Have you ever driven to the 4 Corners monument? We are thinking about a road trip this summer and were wondering if the roads are paved or j6st dirt.
Dinner - found a new soup, a spinach orzo soup, so I am trying it.
Enjoy,
Jana
Oh yes, my Pioneer Woman cook book is a keeper - they all loved the sakusbury steak I made the other night and now want to try something else new.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wed., Dec 30th
Who0-hoo! I had really great Chinese food yesterday afternoon. We went to Joplin for a planer for DH, and before we left the area… DINNER! What a treat!
I hope Marcia (Nur5e) is safe with the Missouri flooding! The Spring River where we were yesterday was out of its banks and had been across the highway earlier--nothing compared with the St. Louis-Missouri River areas.
Tonight… back to creative leftovers… I have a doctor appointment in town today (well woman to get my meds refilled—no biggie), and I’ll stop at the store and get some fresh produce to round out the turkey and ham. I’m going to stop and see Mom and take her some of my noodles that I made Monday.
Jana—thanks for the info on the crock pot. I may have to look into one.
Carol—You just wrote the new, improved and enhanced Betty Crocker recipe. I like to take a recipe and put my spin on it. I love that your DH is “over the top” with cats!!!
Tina—sometimes auto correct is overrated! I got my SBS pieces all fused to the correct sides of the fabrics and started the tedious process of cutting them out. I have some of those Karen Buckley serrated blade scissors with nice, large hand grips, and it makes the process so much easier. I need to look up again what size to make the backgrounds…
We are still hovering around 30 for the highs here, and the snow—all half inch of it (and ice, and sleet) is still on the ground with an overall paw print pattern… not a square inch left unpatterned. Have I mentioned lately that I’m ready for spring!!! I have to get my truck thawed out and de-iced so I can drive it to town for my errands. A garage would be nice… the tractors take precedence in the machine shed…
Enjoy!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wed., Dec 30th
Good afternoon from dreary, kind of chilly, hoping for sun, SW. Pa....But, I'm not complaining...When you see what's happening with the flooding and other terrible things, we're darn lucky here in Pa.....
Mary, I know what you mean about the "crying 2 days"...Just have to think and......And then to top it off, just had an email from Terry and the heading was I'm sad! He's back to work (everyone else is off), Stephan, his oldest, left to go back to school and took the dog, Scout, with him...Scout has a "social" problem and Stephan and his girl friend are hoping they can work with him....This is kind of the last resort before putting him down...He's also on meds which might be helping a little...I think this has Terry worried also...Thank goodness he still has Nick living close by and they have dinner together almost every night....OH BOY, will I be glad when this is over.......
Funny about the Betty Crocker recipe...I think everyone has 1 of her books and it's become a big joke in our family...When Terry was moving out, he wanted to take BC and his soon to be ex told him, he couldn't have it....In all the years they've been married, she probably has never picked up that cook book, Terry or Nick have done all the cooking but she's keeping that book!
Tina, love hearing about your brother, the cat lover...But then I love to hear anything about cats...
2 of our boys are/were not cat people but you know as soon as those 2 walked in the door, my cats would be all over them...The rest of the kids are cat crazy like me and most of the grands are cat people...See what happens when I get on the cat topic, on and on.......
Jana, I also thought about that crock pot but re-thought and decided against it...I only have 1 and that will do me fine and I do, do love it.....That and my pressure cooker, couldn't cook if I didn't have them, lol.....
Becca, It took me years and then some to learn how to read a crochet pattern and even now, I get lost...When I learned, it was kind of, pick up the hook and watch my Mom...And at that time, we made those fancy doilies. (which I wouldn't even attempt to try today)...
I'm also with you on that coconut cake, yummy.....
Carol, I'm really thinking of "your" pork chop dinner and even picked up the chops when I shopped but, I have to save them for Friday to go with the sauerkraut....Have to add more chops to the shopping list....Your DH sounds like Jim, goes through the house calling them honey, even when he talks to Jake, the feral, calls him sweetie and honey.....
Well, our dinner might be a surprise...Kathy belongs to a food club called Blue Apron, which she loves and she was able to pass along 3 free meals to someone...Yippee, she picked me! But, I'm not sure just what we're getting...She said, the meals will come, complete with everything except, salt and pepper...Most of them take 30 min. to prepare and have all the instructions...She also belongs to another one and will be sending me that one also...She loves it, food is delicious and is cheaper than if they decided to go out to eat...She doesn't get it every week and tries to space it to give them something different....SO, our delivery is to be here today and I am looking forward to and hoping we get something that we both can recognize, lol......As a back up, there's always cereal.....
Happy eating................
